BigW and target have this crazy sale once or twice a year. Last time I remember is sometime in May from bigW. I still could not figure out why they make this sale, but hey, it is a bargain!

These are rated highly on the CREP ratings

    • Those tests give me a headache…

"Managing impact energy to the dummy's head in frontal impact 0/8" yet it shows as 4 stars at first glance.

  • This one aswell, but not as highly rated http://www.target.com.au/p/mother-s-choice-wonder-convertibl…

    • seems to be designed better, and easier to use. thanks 2jzzzz!

Maybe getting cheaper now that ISOFIX standard (well Australia's variant with top tether, amongst other things) has been finally adopted, so these are now older models.

    • -2

      I saw Australia's ISOFIX.

The ISOFIX clips are attached by string.

      Well done Australia.

    • +2

A lot of cars don't have ISOFIX so the old style seatbelt ones aren't going anywhere. ISOFIX will just be another option by the look of it.

      • True.

THough, I have no complete evidence of this, but I would imagine most ~10 year old imports would have ISOFIX at least, as the standard has been around since 1997. In the US from 2002

Personal evidence is from my 2003 Corolla, which has the labels on the seats.

Aussie cars are probably the big exception but the Commodore was exported so would have required the points for the US. Wonder if this is the case?

Know I much prefer the concept of click in (even a strap) of the ISOFIX points than fiddling around with the seatbelt!

        • My 6 year old Volvo doesn't have it. But we bought it second hand so maybe it was an option that was refused by the previous owner or something, he didn't have young kids.

Will be great going forward now that it has been allowed, I'd imagine all cars will eventually have it as standard and it will replace seat belts eventually.

These should be free, as govt 'compulsorily needs you to have one'

But but Mr Costello told us to have one for mum, one for dad and one for the country.

@rodripa: Mr Costello is a dog

    • nothing is 'free' if the government is going to pay for it…they just take it back in taxes. If they provided them a new vehicle safety tax would be invented, the emergency relief tax they put in with the floods is still around.

    • +3

      This is Ozbargain….you want OzWelfare.

      • Gotta say, I lol'd at that one. Wonder if pages like that exist? I suppose they do, where people sit and talk about how to fort the system or take advantage of loopholes in a new scheme.

    • Well I suppose you could say they are technically free. We bought all our baby stuff with our 'free' money (baby bonus/maternity payments etc) as would most other parents.

  • +2

Just what I was looking for, thanks.

  • -1

Thanks for the deal post, OP. You will find more and more so now in the coming 6 months, you will notice a flood of these hugely discounted child seats. It's because the new safety standards & fittings have been set & none of these current models exactly meet them. That's not to say this seat is unsafe or anything though - still great value for what it is.

    • +1

      more details please?

      • The updated QA/Safety standard is "AS/NZS 1754" - it's the updated standard regarding these new & improved designed car seats, that don't need to use the car's seatbelt in order to function properly or be safe.

The current standard model child seats in the market right now meet the old standards, but not this new one. This new standard does not mean current child seats are unsafe or have become illegal to use - it's just a new QA/Safety standard for these new & improved child seats to meet, as they have different straps, supports and clips.

        • +2

"This new standard does not mean current child seats are unsafe or have become illegal to use"

No issues then, thanks for the information infinite.

    • +2

That's untrue about them not meeting new safety standards

There are new models coming out with the Australian ISOFIX and there's a new category (G I think) for 6m-8 seats but that's all.

      • Actually, it is true. As mentioned in the above post, the updated QA/Safety standard for these is "AS/NZS 1754". It's just that you seem to think I was implying current seats aren't as good as the new models, when in fact they are for the most part, it's just that the new seats have a different set of safety standards to meet, as they are a different design of seats.

Neither type of seat passes the other one's standard exactly, but they cant, as they are differently made seats. It's not because one is worse than the other. They just literally have different QA/Safety standards.

        • This is the update (note that it's an update, not a new standard too):

Australian Standard now allows ISOFIX-compatible lower attachment
connectors in some types of child restraint, while retaining Australian
          requirements for top tether straps
          • ISOFIX compatible connectors provide a clear indication of correct
          installation
          • New provisions for rear facing restraints allow children to remain rear facing
          for longer
          • Revised standard caters for low birth weight infants

  • bought it a couple of days ago for $299.

It was a gift, so can't really go back have it refunded and buy it again at the cheaper price. :(

    • +2

Talk to them. You can always say that otherwise you will buy at the low price and return it using the receipt of the expensive price.

      • Thanks for the suggestion. Will give them a call/email today.

Bought my ISOFIX seats from Britain.

  • Hmmmm… I would like to buy a spare baby seat for the 2nd car.

Not sure if I should buy this, or an ISOfix one.

    • +1

Just bought it… I can always return it if I change my mind.

Bit the bullet and bought one. Should've consulted with the pregnant wife, but it's on ozbargain so can't really question that (!).

Not many reviews other than what's on Target's website, which could be screened.

The last time this was on ozb was in Aug 2014 @ $149.

According to scubacoles, the Mother's Choice Wonder convertible is made in China with "noticeably flimsier plastic than the Safe and Sound (Made in Australia)".

    • EDIT: my bad, didn't realise this is suitable for newborn too. Quite a good deal.

    • +1

It's well regarded on the carseat groups I'm in on Facebook, and they all do a lot of research by the sounds of it.

    Unavailable online, damn.

Rang my local store & they had one. Put in on hold for me @ $119 :) Cheers op!

    • I will try to call my local store tomorrow. So the in store price is the same as online? Or do I have to mention the online sale price to match?

      • +3

First I called the store to confirm availability, they have it @ $299. Then I called Online Shopping Support 1300 753 567, gave them the name of the young lady I spoke with. They then called her, and then they called me back & confirmed it had been organized & is avail for collection. Took a picture of webpage incase any problems, but was smooth and good service from them….

        • +1

          thanks, will try.

  • I have 2 of these carseats (paid $170 for them each on sale a few weeks ago) and last week had to return it to the "installation guys" twice, as they kept buggering up the installation.

Basically, it is very difficult to get this model to lie back far enough for a newborn. It does recline quite a bit, but only if you put in a bunch of towels to prop it up, and then it loses a lot of stability.

Anyway, it's ok.. but not the best out there.

Also, one of the cars I've installed it in is a 2-door mercedees. There goes my passenger-side leg room lol

    • I've found that with a couple of different carseats. One installer mentioned it was more the seat shape than the carseats, he had a lot of trouble with ours despite being very experienced, but ended up getting it stable and secure using towels. It's something we looked at specifically when we bought our next car, because we knew we'd have carseats in the back for a lot of years to come.

  • I purchased the Mothers Choice Aniversary only 2 weeks ago and the price has now Dropped by $30.

    • Last year car seats were on sale then much cheaper again a week later. I bought another (online click and collect), picked it up at the back of the store, brought it to the front of the store and refunded it with the receipt from the first one. $100 saved.

  • Plenty left at Cannington Carousel last night.
It was in the system at $299 but they gave it to me for $119.

here it is guys same price if you want it for the same price but Mother's choice brand

I got one at Maroochydore this morning - was the last one on the floor in a box.

I just explained that I missed out on it online and the lovely ladies (they were very helpful) checked with the manager and then put it through at the online price for me. They were talking about the online sale being 'early' compared to their sale (they couldn't understand why - dawned on me later it was probably the Click Frenzy thing) so it may be on special in stores on Thursday? Not sure. But if they are going to do that then you'd think they'd get more stock in for the sale - so it may be worth keeping an eye out if you've missed out and want one.

    • have to +1 for you.
jsut called my local store, and they kind of confirmed that they will start selling at $119 for this seat tomorrow (Thursday). so i guess people who is after this one, just rush into target tomorrow if they have stock.

      • +1

finally got one from local store and yes, they are on special in store.

    • I had one on hold @ M/dore. Ended up getting 2 from Noosa this morning as closer.

  • +1

For anyone who's interested, went to pick one up at Inaloo and they were already sold out. Asked if they were able to provide a similar substitute and they did the Mother's Choice wonder convertible car seat for 119 instead (usually 299 also). Girl in store actually advised they're a better model than the safe n sound in her opinion and they're for new born to 4 years (rather than 6 months) which suits us better if anything. I'd suggest if you try for this though you need to be quick as they only had 5 on the floor and I watched a guy do the exact same thing as me straight afterwards (probably one of you bastards!)
