  • This is the spec's for the drive in this case:
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=506

Nice price for that volume, I'll have to get one now! Was going to get a WD 320 for $98 today, glad I didn't.

  • Damm good price!

  • Very good price indeed. The 500GB HDD without external enclosure is worth $110 from MSY alone.

I would grab this if only I didn't already get the HDD from MWave over the weekend.

  • Got one thanks for the headsup !

  • Wow very tempted to get this would be good for my PS3

    • moved comment below

  • damn, why did i buy the 320GB Lacie from OW? man, I feel really bad right now, hik.

  • hmmm haven't opened my 320gb lacie yet… i think a return is on the cards lol

  • +1

so i guess this is a good deal… Was thinking bout getting a 2.5" HDD since I hate lugging my 3.5" everywhere. Is the casing good? Reallllly tempting :P

  • Wow very cheap and WD HDD too!

    Is it's PATA or SATA?

But I wonder why are COTD bothering doing this "special subscriber" thing when someone is ultimately going to post it on ozbargains. Just doesnt feel like a "member special" per say.

    • +1

      SATA

    • +3

Can't wait for our new website build.

Will be tighter control on SOS.

      • For some reason I don't receive these offers in my email even tho I have signed up for them.
        Can u fix that?

      • +3

I've yet to ever receive a subscriber newsletter even though I've joined. So I hope you actually fix the sending part if you're going to lock it down in any way.

I've only ever heard of COD deals like this via OzBargain, and I'm a very regular visitor/buyer of COD goods.

        • +1

You've just echoed my exact situation and sentiments! Despite ticking the offers box in the account settings, and even attempting to re-subscribe several times, I still get no newsletter or even the confirmation email the system tells me it has sent! :?

I've not worried til now, but if it's gonna get locked down it might be time for some tech support QQQ? ;)

      • I don't get the regular daily emails until 5pm EST most days. That might be first on the fix list. ;)

        • +3

Regarding reports above not receiving our e-mails, I suspect you need to safelist our domain with your mail client?

@iced: Not if you saw the fix list :) Number one on the list is the new "Date a Staff Member" feature. Edit: Should mention I'm taking requests if anyone would like to beta test that feature. Zero Sydney?

          • @QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: Hi QQQ,

I receive transaction/order emails just fine, and the account I've given you guys has no SPAM filtering at all on it!

I've even tried creating a whitelist and adding your domain, no joy. I'm open to other suggestions! ;)

            • @StewBalls: Email me your e-mail address lets take a look.

              QQQ@

              • @QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: Hi QQQ, I was just editing my previous post, you beat me to the punch - I got lazy & just created a new vanilla email account for COTD newsletter, that worked. Instead of fixing the problem I'm just as happy at this point to do an end-run around it! Yes I'm lazy! ;)

                Thanks anyway,
                Cheers! :)

            • @StewBalls: My case is the same. Ill email qqq

          • -2

@QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: "Number one on the list is the new “Date a Staff Member” feature. Edit: Should mention I’m taking requests if anyone would like to beta test that feature. Zero Sydney?"
            No.

          • @QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: Safelist your domain … I get order confirmations without issue and delivery confirmations without issue.

I guess your method of sending the e-mail might be the issue.

        • exactly same here with regular daily emails. sometimes i don't get it until after midnight!

          • @CVonC: both regular and sos e-mails are always after midnight for me………..it's often a case of seeing what I have missed.
Luckily, if they're any good they are posted here

      • +1

I too don't get SOS emails, but a friend with a newer account does. I don't care as much because the good stuff ends up on OzBargain anyway :)

      • I always receive the emails but I come here to see people’s comments on the products.

    • I posted a link to the WD product website for the drive in the first response…

  • Excellent offer. The drive alone is $117 from MSY last time I checked.

  • Good deal! At msy they sell these Imation 2.5" 500gig eHDD for $150.

  • I just received my SOS message only 20 min ago!

  • Just ordered it.
I will be on holiday in the next few weeks. Will bring the camcorder.
next item of desire is the WD TV from Office Works :p

  • I was wondering why I don't receive the emails - there is a confirmation email that you need to click on!

    Edit: Nope, still no email.

    looks like a great deal,
know whether that Lacie case is worth getting?

  • Nice one, ordered one pretty much just to back up the old ps3 HD

  • what is the lacie case? is it just like a leather casing that it comes in or what?

  • the case can be added to your order, it's $10

  • Just got one. Thanks for posting!

  • yeah I saw that when I was order it. But was unsure what it actually is… could you please describe? like what are the benefits and is it actually beneficial to have?

  • Herbie/ carlscott,
are u going to remove the HD from the casing and put it into the PS3 or just plug in via the usb?
im thinking of doing the same thing, but im not too techno-savy… would appreciate any advice pls!

    • +1

soulspawn it doesn't take much technical skill to change the HD in a PS3 - you just undo a few screws, unplug it, plug the new one in and screw it back up. Personally I'm going to keep mine as an external for now so I can transfer stuff between the PC and PS3, but it'll probably end up in the PS3 eventually.

      • thanks, okay. i've seen some tutorials on youtube, and it doesnt look too difficult.
i'm gonna try to swap my ps3 hd with the one in the astone casing. so i'll have a portable 40gig to carry ard and a 500 gig in the ps3. hopefully the case still can be used after i've cracked it open.

        • +3

I remember when I changed a HD myself for the first time, it's very empowering. "People are willing to pay big bux to computer techs just for that? Damn that was easy". Just be careful to get rid of any static electricity on you (don't work on carpet, and touch something earthed like a tap or your fridge to get rid of any static)

          • +1

@okay: thanks. tts a good tip, u've been really helpful!
now im dam excited to receive the HD. hope they send it quick!!!

            • @soulspawn: Would a 7200 RPM disk be better for PS2 than the 5400 in this deal?

              • +1

@skinny: skinny, i assume ur talking abt the ps3, and not the ps2.

most ppl advise that the 5200rpm is used, as it generates less heat, but tests (performed by others) show that the heat doesnt affect the PS3…
so i think 5200 shld be fine.

  • just ordered one, great stuff

  • So tempted… and can't resist anymore … Ordered 2 … good stuff QQQ

  • Great deal! The only thing that stopped me from ordering one of these was the fact that one of my mates rang me earlier to say he's ordered one for me as a belated birthday gift! WooHoo! :)

  • Crazy deal - nuf said!

  • Thanks just got one myself, too bad I missed the deal at Mwave.

  • ahhhh damn it! couldnt resist! got one too!

  • What is the warranty on this drive? 1yr? 3yr?

    • "2 Year Manufacturers Warranty"
      \_/7

  • bought one too even i got plenty. i am going mad i guess, but good gift though.same question, how long for the warranty?

    • What does it mean by 'no bundled software'. Do you need any?
      Sorry, I'm still learning

  • LOL at all the impulse buyers.. it is a good deal tho.

    • +1

With only 24hour to buy and usually limited stock … he who hesitates … loses :)

  • great deal. And you actually have stock ! shocked bought one.

Also FYI i'm a subscriber but have never recieved these deals in the mail

  • I ordered one last night.

Looked around on staticice and this seems to be good cos its got the cover included.
Didn't bother with the Lacie though, dont really care for minor scratches.

    Nice find and thanks!!

  • -1

For anyone who isn't getting these deals in the mail, you have to email COTD:

    "Hi there,
    Thank you for your email.
I have manually set your account to 'subscribed' status (as it was previously on 'unsubscribed' status)
Should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to get back to us."

    • -3

So COTD can't administer email mailing lists correctly, and customers have to chase things up and jump through hoops because COTD procedures are slack/ineffective? Another example of COTD failing/being incompetent.

      • +6

Unfortunately for you, today's catch (a USB turntable) won't fix a broken record.

        • -4

          How unamusing.

        • -4

You must like sticking up for COTD's bad practices.

      • +4

No one cares about you and your anti-COTD crusade anymore Zero Sydney.

  • +1

does anyone else think it looks like an itouch 1g? looks nice. still available.

    • -1

      I didn't see a LCD screen?

  • may need two usb ports for this. comes with a Y-adapter for low powered usb ports.

    • I think that's common practice with 2.5" portable drives.
      \_/7

    • Yeah my 160GB imation drive has the y-adapter cable. I've only had to use it once and that was when I tried it with my Wii. But have never had to plug in two for a computer or laptop.

      • +1

        Yeah, USB (1.x/2.0) port power rating is essentially 5V @ 500mA (= 2.5VA = not a lot).
I also have never needed to use both plugs on the Y cable to power either of two 2.5" portable drives, but that's not to say that USB ports aren't frequently capable of higher than rated current/power output, or conversely, you won't occasionally come across USB ports that can't supply "rated" max' current without de-rating the voltage output in the attempt.
        \_/7

  • -2

    Warranty not great, 2 years.

    • +1

Hardly reason for a negative at this price, plus 2 years doesnt seem that bad??

    • +4

"Brissy Joe" I love that fake nick - makes you sound like just a "normal person". Very creative.

I see you are painstakingly giving all COTD related threads a negative, let me help you with that, here is a shortcut to all COTD related deals posted on OzBargain:

Wohoo, just got it delivered 10 mins ago.

  • +1

Mine arrived on Friday… Excellent delivery time… Unfortunately, it's missing the USB cable and I don't have any spare… Contacting them to see what can be done… Hope I get a cable soon, space is getting a little scarce…

  • +1

Picked mine up from post office this morning. VERY nice looking drive. And has a protective sleeve anyway, so glad I didn't buy the extra case.

  • Has this expired? I didn't get an email and the link redirects to the home page.

  • Do I need drivers to for this hdd to work with XP? I plug it in and my PC doesn't detect it.

This is my first attempt using it. I hope it's not broken. I threw away the packaging.

  • +1

Maybe you need to use the extra USB plug for the power? Give that a try.

Mine detected fine on just the 1 USB.

    • It's working on my eeepc but not my main pc. At least it works. I was worried it was broken.
