LG G Watch R $285 + Delivery @ Better IT

190

For those in the market for android wear watches, LG G Watch R is a strong competitor against the Moto 360 with a slightly better battery life and a full watch effect rather than the flat tyre effect on the Moto 360.

I bought this watch on Wednesday through these guys and it got delivered to me on Thursday morning.
Postage might vary but this is the cheapest price I've found considering that the google play store is selling the same for $349.

  • How are you finding it so far?
I have been looking at the Moto360 and G Watch R and there are a lot of differences.. the G Watch R has been leading the race for me (not a big fan of the "flat tyre" on the Moto360, and big complaints about battery), although I recently read the LG uses a plastic screen, not mineral/Gorilla Glass, which puts me off a bit.

    • I'm liking it so far… The watch is quite responsive to touch interface. Battery life is as stated. It came fully charged out of the box and I only charged it last night even after playing around a lot trying to work out the features. As far as the glass goes… I like how the 'plastic screen is embedded as compared to moto360. I think this way its less prone to scratches on the screen. It doesnt look bad at all! Although I might consider a tempered glass protection if theres one. I also eventually plan to change the straps to metallic straps as i dont like leather and this is another reason I went for R compared to 360, Its designed to take standard 22mm straps as compared to proprietary ones.

That said, I have yet to find any info on LG G Watch R owners who have replaced their bands with aftermarket metal straps. Has anyone seen any tutorials or posts on this?

I think the same was said about the Moto 360 smartwatch, that it too would accept aftermarket 22mm straps. However, it seems that this isn't as easy as it should be. Some people had to modify their bands (i.e. cut part of the metal band) or modify the Moto 360 itself (i.e. cut part of the plastic underside) to make it fit.

Why do you want a tutorial? Changing a 22mm straight ended band on the G Watch R is the same as on any standard watch, there is no difference.

        • There is a Kickstarter campaign for aftermarket straps (with what looks like plastic adapters) for the Moto360

although I recently read the LG uses a plastic screen, not mineral/Gorilla Glass, which puts me off a bit.

This hasn't been confirmed yet, I have a screen protector on the way for mine but because it's recessed it's pretty well protected.

      • someone on whirlpool copy/pasted a response from LG UK technical rep who said the screen was not gorilla glass and was just P-OLED. so it wasn't definitive as to what it actually is (what sort of plastic or other) but it definitely is not gorilla glass.

anyway everyone is worried about this, but since no-one can actually tell…does it matter? put a screen protector on it if you're worried about scratches, but if you can't visually tell what it is or isn't then who cares. as we all know gorilla glass scratches and cracks very commonly. its not some miracle material.

        • You may not be able to put a screen protector on these watches - I know Samsung advises not to use screen protectors with its GEAR smartwatches - something about interfering with the touchscreen.

        • @systmworks:

I've had a screen protector on for five days now without any problems.

Is this Australian stock or some cheap Asian import

    • +1

Australian stock. Came with au charger

  • Thanks for sharing. Just ordered one. Been looking at options for this watch and this is definitely the best price so far.
The website and lack of picture didn't instil much confidence but if you got yours fine, that helps.

    • Yeah i was a bit skeptical at first but then I did a live chat on the website and the guy was very helpful.

  • There are surcharges for credit card payments. Since I've never heard of them I used my credit card and copped the fees just in case something happens.

  • Price seems pretty good. Im going take the plunge i think.

  • FYI for anyone looking for the Moto360 instead, 2 people have reported getting it from JB HiFi (in store) for $299

    • wow there is stock? I'm surprised… anyway I bought the G Watch R for $308 delivered including credit card surcharges. Battery life is better and it supports always on.

  • Quite a bit broader surface(26.92%) to favour the original - casio watch-shaped one /
For those who may need closer to 200 dollars. Same Snapdragon 400 chipset.
2 weeks arrived fine from Seoul

  • Ordered one. Shipping $15.95, Surcharge $4.51

  • Can the LG G Watch R be used independently without having to connect to a device?

    • It can be after you set it up but without connecting to your phone it'll just be a… dumb watch.

  • can any one post a photo of it on their arm so I can check size, what it looks like. promotional materail doesnt really show it (looks like a normal size watch)

I see Asus is about to realease their Zen watch, it looks really nice.

  • Is it available at Australian retail stores yets? and if/when it will be available would it be priced at $350+ aud?
EDIT: Just googled and it came out yesterday at 359 AUD

    • It was released but never got to the stores. Apparently whirlpool people are reporting g that it might be priced at 310…

  • Just realised my order status updated to this:PAID - Distributor Processing Order (Final Status)

  • deepansh did you get a tracking number after you order was updated to PAID - Distributor Processing Order (Final Status)?

    • Sorry for the late reply… I didnt but if you go online and click on chat, Matt will provide you with one

  • Just got an update from Matt, order is delayed one day but should still arrive by Wednesday which is good enough for me.

Just got an email from Matt about order delays and pricing issue:.

The Delay reason was that the LG distributor put all orders on hold due to a pricing error on their part, even though we had double checked and had a confirmed price in writing. It has taken some work to get them to honour the pricing and ship the large number of orders out.

Thank you for your business and please chat or email us if you need further information.

    Note:
The distributor is putting the price up for all stores overnight.
The new distributor product pricing: $379.04

Anyone who purchased one before the issue got themselves a pretty good bargain on a newly released product.

    • Yep got the same email and pretty happy I ordered one!

  • Meaning the new price is higher than the RRP suggested

  • Bummer I got mine today but it's faulty.
Anyone else have similar issues? I've contacted the store to arrange a replacement.
