  • hmm cant see zero annual fee first year… am I missing it?

    • Look at that short statement below the the annual card fee :$65. It says "Special offer: $0 annual fee for the first year. Apply by 18 January 2015."

    • Also says it right on the banner

      • ah yep I see now.
I tried to access the offer via regular NAB website (which is different)

  • Does anyone know if there's a minimum spend required on first purchase?

Also whether we can close it immediately after purchase is made? Or do we have to wait until we receive points?

    • +1

If it is like their previous offer, there is no minimum spend (but a purchase of some sort is required) and yes you should wait until you receive points.

  • +1

add this to the 50,000 Qantas FF from ANZ card = 70,000 = free upgrade?

    • Add this to 150,000 Qantas FF from 3 x ANZ cards…

      • you got 3 ANZ cards? o.O
        I didn't think of that

        • +4

Technically I have 12 if you count the Amex cards… Looking forward to cancelling them all when all the bonus points are accounted for!!

  • +2

any deal on the premium card??

    • I'm hoping this aswell.

    • I played around with the url of the promotion code and managed to find the page for the premium card. It has a bonus 40000 points but the annual fee isn't waived.
I have a friend who works at nab and he called internal card services and there is no offer for the premium free.

Only suggestion was card retention - and see if they would refund the fee once charged.

      • Unless you're an existing NAB customer it would appear. An offer came in the mail for the premium card with no annual fee. We have other products with them included CC's so if anyone is a NAB customer already maybe hold off for a bit and see if the same comes through.

        • Hm… so this was for the Premium QFF card? No annual fee first year along with the 40,000 points?
I've been wanting exactly that deal, but when I rang to see if they would give it to a loyal customer, they said no-go!
So maybe I'll wait a little and have another go…

        • I called as well and was told very clearly its not possible despite threatening to close my account (which I've actually been considering doing)

  • this one is better.. 50k points & no annual fee
    http://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/platinum/anz-rew…

    • I only see 25k points?

      • hmm somehow in the last 20 minutes it changed it 25k.. dodgy!

        • +1

This was 50k points when I applied around 3 months ago, it changed to 25k around 1 month ago as I was looking at it again as a recommendation for a friend. You may have been viewing an old or cached page.

        • @ezza:
I'm almost certain if you go for the QFF card you get 50,000 QFF points. The one you're looking at is the Rewards card which is a little bit different.

        • the 50k points and no fee offer from ANZ expired months ago.

    • +1

      Por que no los dos?

  • +6

Applied. Also got the card insurance which gives a bonus 1000 points. It's charged at .79c per $100 balance at the time of the statement and you need to have it enabled for 3 months. Basically buy 1 thing on the card, pay it off straight away then keep the account open for 3 months before closing it. 21000 points for 10 mins work hopefully.

  • +3

If your not already a member of QFF sign up here for an additional 10,000 points along side this deal:

    https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do/dyns/joinffp?code=FAMILY…

    • Be aware, it looks like you need to earn 10000 QFF points in 3 months to be able to qualify for the 'bonus' 10000 points. That's a reasonable amount of spending for the average Joe.

      • Earning 20,000 NAB bonus points doesn't count?

        • +1

Was waiting for someone to correct me :)
Double checked and yep the NAB points would count.

    • So would you sign up for QFF before applying for this card or after to get the maximum points?

      • Before and only using that link otherwise you gotta pay and don't get the extra points.

  • Does anyone know if there are cancellation fees after we receive the points and cancel the card?

    • Hmmm… I hope not!

      • I think there is a echo in here!

        • Can we get a Rep in here to check out this echo echo?
          Umbrella, ella, eh, eh, etc.

  • +2

anyone know if there is a min PA wage you have to have to get this?

  • Can get a Min of $500 credit….. appears to be no min spend to get the points.. as long as its within 90 days

    • Sounds too good to be true. There must be a catch.

  • Can you get the card, cancel after 6 months and just keep doing with with all the new offers to get tons of points for spending next to nothing ?

    • Yes, the only thing it may impact is your credit score or whatever. As you'll have heaps of credit available and lots of credit applications. Might only impact you if you are thinking about getting a loan anytime soon.

      • Wouldn't this positively impact your credit rating, assuming you obtained credit and successfully paid it off without incurring interest? Or is preventing debt considered a bad thing for the credit powers that be?

        • +1

Australia has had a "negative" credit rating system only to date. i.e. providers would only see if you had missed a payment or had been declined for credit etc.

This changed in March this year to a "comprehensive credit rating". http://www.veda.com.au/yourcreditandidentity/comprehensive-c…

That said, I requested my credit report for free from Veda a few months ago and it had absolutely nothing about my "positive" credit experiences. Still only had number of card applications etc.

  • Anyone who applied for this an existing NAB customer? Their Terms & Cond…. state "Offer only available for new approved applicants who apply by 18 January 2015" which I'm guessing to mean a completely new customer.

    • New applicant would mean you need to apply for a new credit card. Existing customers can be new applicants.

      • Yep, I had never been an NAB customer until I jumped on the 40,000 bonus Velocity points bandwagon a few months ago. I applied for this latest offer last night, and received a response of…..

"Thank you (blah, blah, blah). We haven't been able to approve your credit card yet. We'll need to take a closer look at your application, which can take a few days. Blah, blah, blah…."

And then about thirty minutes later, a confirmation e-mail saying…..

"Thanks (blah, blah, blah). We'll be in touch within 5 business days. Blah, blah, blah…."

The next that I heard from NAB was another e-mail around 1pm today, telling me that my application has been approved.

I can see the new card in online banking already. :)

I feel a little guilty; 20,000 QFF points for a bit of keyboard bashing and little else. The feeling will pass, I assume. :D

For people who are new to this game, and wondering what 20,000 points can get you, that's what I "spent" recently to upgrade Mrs 2905 from discount economy to business class from Perth back to Canberra.

  • What does 20k points get you in flights from MEL to OOL? Can't see on the QFF website as I'm not a member.

    • +1

For a return Classic Awards flight MEL>OOL is 24000 plus around $120 in taxes.

      • Thanks bern1992. I can get a return flight with Jetstar for around $200. I'm not seeing any massive benefits based on the points needed for that flight, but as I'm not familiar with QFF can someone please educate me on why it is worth it. Note: My wife will be going to Cambodia and Thailand next October so if international flights are worth it I might sign up.

        • +1

Qantas isn't particularly strong on flights to South East Asia so in your case it is probably not worth it.

        • Yeah, domestic economy flights using points are rarely ever a good deal unless it's last minute (assuming there's inventory available). Business/first flights or upgrades are the best. Round-the-world is also terrific value.

      • +1

you could get that return MEL-OOL for $120 on its own with a tiger or jetstar sale and not waste 24k in points.

  • I got disappointed too about QFF points, the taxes are a killer. Most of the time it is cheaper to just fly with low cost airlines. And I don`t care about upgrades. I think ANZ regular points cards I got (three of them) are much better as you can cash in $250 each.

    • Cashed in, with gift cards? How long did you wait for your Rewards bonus points? I'm 3 months in with no bonuses.

    • use it for business class purchase, the tax is not much of a different for Economy and Business Class

  • +2

If you maintain Credit Card cover for 90 days, you earn 1,000 bonus Qantas Points.
Premium cost 79c per $100 (or part thereof). No premium charge if the closing balace is less than $10.
If you make a purchase to fulfull the bonus point requirement, make sure it is less than $10 when you go for this option.

  • I take it paypass counts as an eligible purchase?

I'm also under the assumption I onlu have to make a purchase on one of my cards (got an american express and a mastercard)

    Cheers

    • I called their Card Services Team today (they've not sent my offer letter, but I got the cards) and Sheldon said the purchase had to be from a 'Qantas Merchant' - this is what they mean by 'Eligible Purchases'… I don't remember the T&Cs being this specific…

Anyone else heard different from them, or seen this specific T&C anywhere? Anyone made a regular purchase and got their Bonus QFF points?

      • Got my card on Friday, letter of offer on Tuesday following. I've already stopped using my card by the time the letter caught up :-) What on earth is Sheldon talking about? What's a Qantas Merchant? Never heard of them.

        • Who knows.

It doesn't say anything in the T&C's, so i imagine we will get our points regardless.

        • Dan Murphys / BIG W / Woolies / BWS etc etc

        • What's the minimum spend and wait time for points to arrive?

        • @Risser:

My understanding is that there isn't a minimum spend, as long as it falls within the "eligible" definition.

I spent $18.48 at Woolworths on the 12th of November. The 20,000 bonus points on my QFF activity statement are dated the 19th of November, and the 19 base points are dated the 21st.

        • @Colin2905:

do you know if there are any cancellation fees if I want to cancel the credit cards and account?

        • @lippy:

          Not that I'm aware of.

      • +3

Perhaps Sheldon thought you meant "Bonus Points on selected Qantas services"? (See section 8 on page 6 of "NAB Qantas Credit Card Account - Reward Terms and Conditions effective 23.02.13", which will be one on the many booklets contained in the thick envelope with your Letter of Offer.)

If it had been me, I probably would've asked to speak to Leonard.

  • Did anyone have their employer contacted or asked for further information regarding salary etc? Don't want to have to go through too many hoops for 20,000.

    • they called my employer and asked him to confirm my name, address, number, salary and email address.

      • Thanks. Wonder if they'll bother for $500 credit limit.

        • I requested $500 and got them mate.

        • +1

          @jakeau:
It doesn't exactly answer the question.

      • Who do they call exactly? Payroll? HR?

        • Depends which work number you put on your application form.

I put my company's general number and my manager picked up that time then he confirmed my details.

My partner put his work general number and he said he never got a call from NAB.

Try to put your direct work number if you have one?

        • well they've sent me an email half a day after saying they've accepted my application. Not sure if they will still bother with a call. I put the general switch number of my workplace onto there

  • Points received today!

    • +1

Same. Weird that they don't appear on my NAB statement. They credited the 20,000 points directly to my QFF account.

      • Yeah, I couldn't find anything on the NAB website to show points earned either.

      • how long after did the points credit into your account?

        • 13 days after I made my first purchase on the card.

        • @mick01: Same.

  • Points received today!

  • Got my points from the 19th. But just noticed in my first statement there was a line "+Annual Fee" which was $65. The card was suppose to be no annual fee for the first year. They're closed during public holiday so couldn't get in touch with NAB yet, anyone else got charged the fee as well?

    • T&Cs clause 2

      1. If you are not already a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, NAB has arranged for the joining fee to be waived if you apply and receive a NAB Qantas Rewards Card or NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card and join through qantas.com.au/joinffnab. Membership and the earning and redemption of points is subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program terms and conditions, available at qantas.com/terms.

did you apply for qantas frequent flyer membership?

  • Just signed up for the $500 minimum and got approved straight away, another 20,000 points to add to my anz :)

  • A Paypal transaction should count right? I tried to purchase a HDMI cable from Selby.com using my AMEX NAB card but was charged an extra $1.22?

    PAYPAL USA
    PURCHASE AUTHORISATION
    Ref. #377878710663505 1.22 DR 1.22 DR

    What's that about?

    • Sounds like a a foreign transaction charge. Was the cable about $40?

      • No it was $3.99 from an Australian website (selby.com.au)

        • +1

Had you recently added the NAB Amex card to your PayPal account? Might be the associated pre-authorisation, which will disappear after a few days.

        • That I did and hope that's whats happened. My search on google tells me its likely too
