BDAY

Cheap and cheerful Windows 8 laptop from HP.

These entry models are no sizzling powerhouses for video re-coding etc but are well enough built and entirely fine for, general duties such as Internet browsing, Office etc.
Shipping should be $9.95 due to current Postage Cap.

According to Static Ice, MSY sells it for $370.

Edit: Actually $369. You can see it in their Notebook.PDF catalogue.

Not that great of a bargain considering how little you save. Save the referral credit for something else.

Right, actually some place called "Warehouse 1" are the cheapest on Statice at $369.17 This this deal is $30 cheaper than that, and not everyone is from a major city with a MSY.

  • "If you are signing up as a new member of Catch of the Day via referral below, you will get a further $10 off the price."

"$10 credit to both referrer and referee's account after first purchase."

Are these two sentences contradictory? Do you get $10 off the price, or $10 credited to your account afterwards, or both?

When I first created my COTD account with the referral link, it gave me $10 store credit (~24hrs expiry) after my first purchase.

I'm not sure about $10 off the first purchase.

You are completely right, it's $10 store credit after the first purchase but not for the first purchase. If you already are a member (signed up before mid October), you can use the BDAY code to get another $8 off. I will edit to make it clear.

I refuse to touch 1366x768 TN 15.6" displays, even at this price. For gods sake, even budget handsets are starting with 1080p IPS displays

"I refuse to touch 1366x768 TN 15.6" displays"
Because thou arte a royale personage?
Can you show a 1080p laptop within $100 of this price? $200, $300?
I had a really decent run through with my mates HP 250 series two weeks ago. It was well built and entirely adequate for what it is. I ended up watching crazy Japanese TV shows about a chimp called Pan-Kun and James the dog for an hour or so and really, on HD Youtube it was fine, not a worry at all. Sound was not tinny either. Not Dolby surround but not offensive, perfectly OK and listenable to in a sub $400 laptop.

Same here, i expect my sub $400 laptops with 4k displays and SSD drives, with 24ct gold trim..
      /sarcasm
Budget handsets only have around 5" screen so the increase in price isnt as huge as when you are dealing with a 15" screen which is like 10 times bigger. For example, full HD screen might add $30 to the cost of the phone. Translate that to a 15.6" screen and suddenly is $300 more expensive… (I know that's not quite how screen costs are actually scaled but you get the idea..)

I expect "all of the above" + free PS4
