that was quick! only just received the email!

Only 4 retailers and none that I would consider using anyway

  • Are normal 28degree cards platinum or is that some sort of added extra ?

    • +5

I received a letter a while ago telling me that my normal 28 degree card was now a platinum card.

    • +3

It's on the 28degrees home page - now a platinum card. What extras - looks like nothing to me.

      • +1

its got an extra word on the card. that makes it officially platinum now

    • +1

Normal ones. They did it to raise more revenue for themselves, rather than for any benefits for cardholders. They just added 'concierge' service iirc (which is pretty useless).

      • If it's concierge service like the other card companies I've used, it's not useless when you use it for overseas restaurant bookings (ie before you travel) especially in non English speaking countries.

These are the stores in case anyone is too lazy to click through

    Saks Fifth Avenue
    MotoSport
    Bloomingdales
    True religion

    Any bargains ?

    • +5

Well luxury brands in US sell for so much less than they do in Australia in general, Free shipping should be a plus for those who intend to buy those items.

That said, considering how people enjoy Van Heusen and even yd stuff here, interest in Bloomingdales and Sak's probably not that high on OZBargain.

  • +5

bit misleading.. says free shipping then is small font spend $100 to get free shipping. Pretty lousy!

  • +2

FREE shipping when you spend over $80

    I hate this part

  • +12

I checked two sites and I presume the others are the same, that friendly gday mate fronted to these sites=Australia tax. Either that or the exchange rates they're providing are terrible.

    • but with 28degrees card you pay using us dollars?

      • Shopping location will dictate the price you're paying. I tried to choose Australian shipping with USD with no joy. On my phone so I'm a little limited.

    • Looked at some tyres that were $106US but $141Aus . Seems to be a bit more than just exchange rate . Still cheaper than here t.

      • Out of interest, where did you go for tyres? I will have to buy some soon and am dreading the cost of 4x 19" low profiles if you buy them locally.

    • Try using a VPN?

    deal sucks.
there are plenty of sites already offer free intl shipping if you buy over a certain amount without codes!!! mc and ge money should pick up their game.

offer free shipping on amazon.com, then we'll talk.

    • Apparently Amazon do offer free shipping on some things, e.g. if you spend more that US$150 on shoes, according to this post:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/165533#comment-2304820

      • yes. but i'm referring to free shipping with no min spend if they want to do it as a mastercard/28 deg offer.

otherwise my first point still sticks.

it's not like 28 deg card is the only one that offers competitive currency conversions nowadays. Especially they removed the 'no fees' on cash withdrawals, it made the citibank one a better alternative.

  • Are the item prices same as always? Or is this just an Aus store front with Aus taxes built in?
Quick VPN connection to check would be handy (at work - can't do).

    • +21

OK just jumped on my desktop to VPN
Armani Jacket shipping to Australia for free paying in AUD 2535.10
Armani Jacket shipping to Australia for free paying in USD 2094.75
Armani Jacket shipping to US for free inm USD $1995.00

I guess the extra is for the additional localised support which is required to Australians. I'm sure there's some good deals but this offer doesn't rate highly on the ethical scale. May be some good deals for you but to me it looks like retailers are getting customers to pay over the odds under the guise of free shipping. They've just paid their web designer to discriminate by IP, that's what people are paying for.

      Buyer beware.

        Thanks for letting us know

      • +1

I would call this a scam/false advertising, as it is not really free compared to the regular price

  • +5

A pair of $600 jeans delivered for free? Thank you very much.

    • +1

What you doing mate, that's a bargain right there, go go go!

      • Want to broden it but site gets ozbargained, can't get in!!!

  • Gopro 4? Not sure of Aus price, and might suffer due to he AUD..

    http://www.motosport.com/dirtbike/gopro?textsearch=Gopro&pri…

    • Got gopro 4 silver from JB for $490 on the weekend, not really worth it to buy from the US at the moment.

  • +8

On Motosport.com they raise the prices significantly when browsing from Australia. Tested with the GoPro Hero 4 (http://www.motosport.com/dirtbike/GoPro-HERO4-Black-Edition-…). It's $499USD in America, but when browsing from Australia it comes to $665AUD which is $585.99USD. That's an $86 price difference. This is a complete rip-off.

    • -4

Just click the flag icon up the top and change your currency to USD and you won't have that issue. Not that hard really.

      • +3

I did that and it's $549.99 USD. Still $50 extra for being Australian.

      • +3

Price works off shipping location and not currency selected.

    • That $499USD is before tax I assume, and most states have sales tax at 5% - 10%. So that's another $25 - $50 USD. Brings it to be fairly on par, I'd say an extra $50 AUD is fair, we have been ripped off significantly more for being Australian before.

    • This type of price discrimination is very common, consumers need to be much more aware of these tactics. I read somewhere that people using Apple devices also experienced higher prices. Safest bet = US IP + Non-apple device?

  • +1

Hola surely can fix that? Or will they then not accept aus addresses.. I mean you could be visiting USA and decide to order one.. Right?

  • +4

Negged based on bxpressiv and algy's research.

  • Also, maybe add shop names to the title.

    Example:

FREE Shipping at Saks Bloomingdales MotoSport True Religion with 28Degrees CC [Min Spend Req] [US]

  • +3

This is a scam and they should be ashamed for discriminating and increasing product price to australians.

Readying a letter to the ACCC…

    • +2

      What can the ACCC do?

  • Neg based on the title of the email making me open the email:

"Receive free shipping from the USA. Limited time only!"

Then I learn it's from 4 selected stores only.

Email was deleted before I even learnt all the other stuff mentioned above.

  • Thanks, saved $15 on shipping at Bloomingdales. Already had a 20% off code for the item, so the free shipping just made the deal even better! :)
