2GB of ram, should be a crime to have such a limited amount on a laptop these days. Cheap as chips though!

    • I have that much on my phone but on a laptop I would be processing a lot more things at the same time.

    • +1

So it is a crime to sell low specs computers cheap as chips? There is a conflict in your comment.

      • you call this cheap as chips how cute.

        • Shameless did. I would rather pay $400 for Asus T100 which I did.

    • +1

It's not just the RAM (or lack thereof) that is the crime here. The CPU is tablet grade. Everything will be painfully slow.

  • +2

The N2830 is usable, but can be painfully slow sometimes.. My mum got a Dell with similar specs, but 4GB RAM and she's happy with it. Web, movies, basic stuff.

  • +2

2GB RAM is a big no no.

  • +4

Celeron and 2GB of RAM, most people will buy this and be dissatisfied with the performance they get. It's a good deal though if you're willing to buy some RAM and don't have unrealistic expectations of the CPU.

  • +1

Pretty cheap to upgrade the ram. Should be relatively inexpensive as well.

  • +2

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/164757 seems to be the better deal, with 4GB RAM? Though postage hurts it.

    • +1

Only $23 shipping to me, so the net result would be $13 to step up to 4gb RAM, which is pretty darn good…great find!

  • +1

Add another 2 gigs of ram and an SSD drive and this laptop would fly along

If anyone's interested, there's a superior Toshiba Satellite Pro on amazon with 4GB RAM and otherwise identical specs: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KF4980Y/ref=pe_385040_121528360_…

Mine just arrived and is working great considering the price tag. Though note - you'll need a universal electrical adapter for the US battery charger. Picked that up on ebay for $1 free shipping.

That said, the expenses tallied up to: $306.56 including postage. :)

EDIT: The price has actually dropped from $249.99 to $227, so you'll likely pay less than I did - even with the ludicrous AUD/USD conversion rates going on.

Does the power supply take 240v? Some are universal, so you only need the power cable. Bargain!!

      • Yep we got this Amazon deal (4gb one) when it was $219 a little while ago, just change the plug end of the ps to an Aussie one and you'll be right.

Perfect for my daughters school stuff this year, do think it needs an SSD though

      • That didn't occur to me, thanks for the tip!

    • Currently coming in at US$249 which is AU$287 delivered.

  • Make sure you use your registered AMEX for a further $15 off (ends 2moro).

  • My grandma wouldnt even use a laptop with these spec…

Is that cus she's into Crysis?

    according to:

    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/c50…

    Memory: 2GB DDR3 (1600MHz)
RAM slot allocation: Memory not expandable

    no deal :(

    • +1

Right soldered in RAM. Now there's a crime against reason.
If its limited to a measly 2GB, why completely stunt it by not allowing upgrades.
      Useless!

  • +1

It's $300 bucks folks, a lot of people are using ancient computers, this would be an upgrade.

    • +1

If you cant afford a half decent computer at around $500 why would you waste 300 on this when there a lot of used computers going for real cheap on gumtree and ebay.

for example i picked up a laptop last week for $100 with 6gm ram nothing special but plenty good enough for internet microsoft office movies and basic stuff.

  • 2GB is a killer…. it will struggle

  • was using a dell laptop recently with only 2gb ram,

being a long time computer user/professional i was suprised that it was hardly noticable with only 2 gigs of ram.

anyway, for 300$ you cant expect that much, this look like an ok deal.

compare it to the laptops kids got at school lol

And to think that about 6 months ago you could pick up a 15" Acer with 4th Gen i3 and 4GB ram ( upgradable to 8GB ) for only $399 @ MSY.
