I got mod'd down yesterday for asking if you can use these online - but I got my email this morning at 10:48am with my code for one I purchased and it does state you can't use it online.
Now it may work online but it states otherwise.

No but i called them and was put on hold for 20mins (driving into work) so i disconnected and replied to my order acknowledgement email with "where is my order, i received the acknowledgment email but no giftcard email or code"

I'm of the opinion that all gift cards are a scam. Terms and conditions mean they can refuse to let you use them at their digression. Not valid for this. Not valid for that. Oh we're going through times and restructuring/under administration/the moon is in Uranus so we'll only offer them at 50% of their value. Sorry sir we've gone into administration and aren't honouring those any more. We're basically queuing up to be unsecured creditors with no rights. Now that MIGHT end well for some, but definitely not all.

And expiring gift cards, from which they must make squillions. The Chinese have figured this out already… when gifting money they put it into a red envelope. It has no conditions, no expiry, and can be used at any retailer.
