Middle Earth: Shadow Of Modor PS4/XB1….= upvote

    • Pre ordered last time dick did the TRY15 code for $45. Reviews would suggest its going to be great!

    • Now all I need is a discount on the PC version.

  • +1

Guessing any new voucher codes will exclude games preorders now. Still good deals…

  • That's cool. Then another 7.5% discount if you use your woolies staff discount

    • plus combine Amex offer (15$ statement credit on 100$+ spend) if available

    • I thought Dick Smith stopped accepting those a little while back?

      • in store yes.. I asked and got confirmation last week via facebook

        • only in store accepting woolies staff discount offer

    • Please tell me how you did this. I am a woolworths staff member, but it's saying my staff number is not valid.

  • JBHiFi pricematch + 20% JBHiFi Now Voucher

Best case they pricematch $59.98 then drop 20% = $47.99
Worst case they pricematch $69.98 then drop 20% = $55.98

    • The vouchers can't be combined with any other deal so a price match I think is as far as they would go

      • +1

If DSE are selling it for $69.98 jbhifi normally drop the listed price. They did it with destiny (drop a few days before launch from 79 to 69).

        • -1

Yeah they might but that would be a special then. It's worth a try but doubt you will get an extra 20% off

        • Thats what we do. Try, try again :-)

        • +2

@TRENT86: I've said to you before, Destiny's limited price counted as the ticket price so the extra discount worked.
In another deal you were saying the voucher won't work on bluray movies, even though other people claimed it to work for them.
Why do you continue to doubt this?
The 20% off discount is a great deal.

        • -1

@Sage: Simply because when I posted the voucher deal people reported they couldn't combine. Don't get me wrong I hope it works. And Yes the 20% off is a good deal, haven't you seen my game posts with voucher? there are like 4 of them.

        • Yeah but that's an old game and this is a pre order but again like most places you might get a service assistant who doesn't know and gives it.

  • +1

Really wonder how Dick Smith can afford to sell all these games at $59. Cost price must be a fair bit more than that if every other store is charging $10,20,30 and $40 (EB) more.

Not that i'm complaining, i love these prices! :)

    • +1

I was wondering the same thing when they were selling PS4's for $399. Not sure what kind of profit they are getting on that!

    • +1

its because EB is a ripoff

    • +16

The gaming market for Xbox, PS4, PC & handhelds is very very competitive and price-driven. Profit is minimal or negative at $59 which is why many other bricks and mortar retailers aren't willing to offer similar prices at launch.

We like to reward our early-adopter customers :)

    • Why did people downvote? I was wondering how it would work also.

    • +4

that is probably not what the games cost, just what cost they put towards those games in the bundle so the price will come up as $499 in the system ..

you can't buy the games for those prices saperately

      • +1

Correct, in fact you need a managers code usually to discount anything by more than 50%. Those games get subsidised during those particular promotions to allow them to scan up like that.

But yeh off memory I used to see a lot of games invoiced from distributors at around $62 - $68 so they are doing something loopy over at DSE and I for one love it!

    • I work at JB and it's only like that to put it through the register. We sell games at pretty much cost price, there's very little markup.

  • Cool. I have AC Unity for PS4 preordered from a previous deal about a month ago. I'll email Dick Smith to see if I can get the extra $10 off my online preorder.

  • +2

If you're a car nut with an Xbone then you'll have an utter blast with Forza Horizon 2, it really is great (I've been lucky enough to have a review code copy the past couple of weeks - http://gamesblip.com/review-FORZAHORIZON2.htm).

  • +1

ugh decisions decisions I have a notre dame edition ordered from EB
    Lot cheaper for this version.

    • +9

I bought Destiny on launch day for $55 from JB with the 20% off code. Got to level 20, finished the story mode, got really bored of it and sold it for $50 on gumtree.

If I had a digital copy I would be stuck with the game.

  • +1 for Alien Isolation Nostromo Edition (PS4). Now I know what to spend my current Pureprofile funds on :)

  • I pre-ordered CoD with LOTR & far cry 4 a week or so ago. Am I still eligible for the discount with CoD? (I got it with LOTR already) can I just email in? Thanks!

  • Be pre-ordering NBa2k15 x1/ps4
    Forza x1

  • +2

I work as a vendor for DSE and I can tell you that most of their deals advertised on the main page or through their emails are sold at almost cost price.

Their games are in a similar boat when deals are advertised on them.

How or why are they doing this? To raise revenue and customer numbers. Recent numbers show that the majority of new DSE customers come almost exclusively from JB Hi Fi and Harvey Norman. The investment firm that purchased DSE from Woolworths are trying to raise the stock price as much as possible. To date, they've already made a 870m profit on the purchase of DSE.

    • I think you've mentioned this before.

Can you give a link to where you're getting this profit amount?

      I got this one article : http://www.crn.com.au/News/391169,profit-rockets-525-percent…

"In the year to 30 June 2014, Dick Smith reported $42.1 million of NPAT – a massive surge from $6.7 million one year previously, and more than 5 percent above the prospectus forecast."

      • +2

Venture capitalists are the ultimate ozbargainers
        http://www.smh.com.au/business/markets/from-20m-to-344m-dick…

They bought the company for 20 million and their current market cap is 517 million but they cashed out a lot of stock during the ipo. They've seen a massive increase in revenue growth due to all their sales; more revenue, stable costs = profit.

Though I wouldn't buy now, I can't see much additional revenue growth potential in the short/medium term but there has been talk about more DSE white label products.

  • Can you still ask for $10 discount on Pre-Orders on top of this?

    • +5

      You can ask for anything.

    • Wondering the same thing, I really wanna know too. Also hoping for the free freight on Thursday.

    • No this is including the $10 off. it clearly shows it in catalogue they have just finally shown the price online rather than having to ring them up and get $10 credit

  • Tuesday I'm gonna go into DSE and pre-order everything.

  • What's with the little DJ's logo next to the Sony/Nikon cameras? ;)

    • Dick Smith took over the electrical department of David Jones.

  • i could pay slightly more for digital, but dick smith seem to churn out the best deals for physical copies. pros and cons to both and depends on the game. No chance of sunset overdrive at this price?

    • Sunset Overdrive is there. =)

  • Australian gaming market is getting competitive. Its getting there, slowly, but happening. DSE is kind of helping that tbh. Prices of games are now at par with US copies.

And I think DSE of all have realized, if they don't compete, customers just go somewhere else to purchase. As much as I didn't like how they used to treat price-matching and pre-ordering before. I think they have come a long way now. For most of the (console) games, I have stopped purchasing them off US PSN…as long as it's in the $59 territory.

    • +2

But how long can they do this ? I remember when JB first started they were the go to place for good prices but now JB hasn't been as competitive

      • +1

It depends on their business strategy. Maybe JB's market research realized people were still going to EB Games and buying from there, aka people were willing to pay extra, so why not rejoin the bandwagon.

It will take time for consumers to get used to and educated about the lower 'proper' pricing. Till then either they will doubt the deal and prices or keep paying premium for it.

If DSE sticks with these pricing, that's going to be the market trend of price point. Local shops who charge more than DSE's price will either have to match the price or lose customers.

There's a lot to do than just bring down prices. For example, ask someone who doesn't know much about games, where he will go to buy a video game. His answer will be EB Games, not Target, or DSE etc. Because that's the brand perception EB Games has amongst the community who doesn't know much about games. Those who do, shop elsewhere.

Since EB Games hasn't shut down, or fixed their prices, it's safe to say there's a considerable amount of people who unknowingly pay the beefed up EB prices to buy stuff for their kids or gifts.

    • +2

EB is still pretty stubborn, if they had their way we'd be paying $120 for a new game. I just hope the more competitive stores (Dick Smith, JB, Big W, etc) stay in the video game market because if they leave prices are going to sky rocket thanks to EB. I think the main reasons people shop at EB is they have a reward system and 7 day return no questions asked.

      • EB do pretty well to price match, but they are a speciality retailer and can't really afford to do loss leader sales, that said, you should always support the business with the lower price if you can

  • Pre ordered forza a few weeks back - gonna try get that $10 refund.

    • Done. Got the refund :)

  • Any idea when this promotion ends?

    • When the catalogue finishes or when the game comes out

  • Is it only Pre orders specified?, or all Pre orders? I wouldn't mind The Crew & Dragon age 3

    • Only specified ones.

    • They have been doing it for all the big games this year so would expect to also have them at this price

    • Only Games shown in cataogue will be reduced by $10 online

      • Dick Smith Employee here. From personal experience (I'm not speaking on behalf of the company but for now) It is for all gaming preorders, not only to those in the catalogue. The ones in the catalogue are usually the next 4 or 5 big titles coming out next. If you ask any employee, they will let you know if a certain title is available for preorder or not as it will be in the system already (i.e Battlefield Hardline and other titles coming out next year are already available to preorder). The price for the actual product will usually say 99.98 but may (and usually does) change as it gets closer to the release date.

        • I have tried to get extra $10 off on unity pre order a few weeks ago which wasn't in the catalogue and they wanted a screen shot of it showing the price which I didn't have so they didn't give my the $10 off for online but I went in store and they did

  • Couldn't help myself… 4 games pre-ordered.

    Assassin's Creed Unity
    NBA 2K15
    Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor
    Alien Isolation Nostromo Edition

$10 down on each - It will be weird going in on the 7th, 8th, and 9th each day saying I'm here for my pre-order - But yeah totally worth it. The guy who served me kinda had no idea about the pre-order price or even that it was in the brochure. So as insurance (not that Ill need it) I took a brochure from in store as evidence in case I need it in the future.

Starting to love Tricky Dickies all over again. Keep it up. its now a race between DSE and Target for my gaming dollar now.

    • Now, now…

    • this post picture will always be here now, they are $59.98 on the site now

  • Fyi, preordered Farcry 4 PS4 as part of this. GTA V wasn't listed however.

    • How much was Far Cry 4 to preorder? 59.98?

      • Yes sir

  • My order.. I didn't get today's giftcard but I got one the other day.

Forza Horizon 2 and Shadows of Mordor

    $119.96 + $4.95 ship

    Gift card -$5

AMEX offer -$15 for spend >$100

TOTAL at checkout: $114.91, less AMEX offer =

$99.91 incl ship for two pre-orders. HAPPYCAKES! Now let's hope they ship Forza today express ;)

    • Yep, I picked up Forza Horizon 2 & Shadows of Mordor…but I'm praying that they ship the games separately.

My cynical self is telling me that they'll ship both out on the 8th…and it'll arrive on the 13th (monday)

      • +1

My recent experiences with DSE is they ship stuff separately. I did an order with $5 earphones which had free shipping because $5 shipping is pointless when I could spend the $5 on earphones instead, and they shipped it first, separate to the other item even though the shipping was free.

        I'm surprised/annoyed I haven't got a Forza Horizon is Shipped email yet though :(

    • Well I ordered forza 2/3 weeks ago and unfortunately wasn't shipped today (well havent received an email saying so). Had high hopes as FIFA 15 last week was sent the day before and received on release day.

  • Do the games ship separately if you order 2 at once?

  • Can't find Forza Horizon any more! Just as I was about to buy. Argh!

    • DSE had an hourly sale with 20% off PS4 games.. They haven't changed the prices on their website yet.

    • Wow, wtf? Seems a glitch, that's too cheap. Bolstered by cart price discrepancy.

  • still nothnig on gta in there catolgue i see …

  • Anyone received Forza Horizon 2 yet this morning?

    • I haven't even received an order preparing/shipped email from them - preordered almost 3 weeks ago too :-/

      • Same here. It is rather worrying that there's no forza horizon 2 on the website anymore…

  • Yeah I haven't received any emails. But thought that they are to lazy to update us but might have posted it.

    • Really hoping so - was your order only forza or did you have other games in the same order?

  • Just Forza. Ordered it on Tuesday. I remember reading on the dick smith website that they post out pre order games the night before the release day.

    • Yeah. They did for me with Fifa last week.

      • Ok cool. We'll hopefully it arrives before the weekend. Did you get any email about fifa being posted?

        • yeah, the day before, about 12PM

  • +3

Sent a message to Dick Smith Facebook page and got this reply about Forza Horizon 2

"Hi Michael, there has been a slight delay with the Forza Horizon 2 being provided by the supplier. However we are currently investigating as to when this stock will be arriving so we can notify our customers. As soon as we know we can update on delivery timeframes. Thanks Amanda DS Online."

I had a feeling something like this would happen.

    • ughhhhh………thanks for letting us know.

    • I had Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive on the same order; i asked their facebook page and received this, "it looks like there was a delay due to the pre-orders on the order. I have separated the Forza Horizon for you and it will be despatched separately. Once the order has been despatched you will receive an email with tracking information. Sorry for the delay."
      hahaha, okay…

  • +1

I had a feeling something was going on with Forza Horizon 2, its not DSE, but the game's official release was Sep 30 for all retailers, JB etc.. than suddenly a few days ago I noticed JB changed it to Oct 2 and DSE (when it was on the website) stated Oct 3. It did indeed come out in the US and probably other territories on Sep 30.

Also interestingly if you log in to your X1, it still says Pre-Order now for the digital version of Forza Horizon 2, so perhaps something happened from the actual backend provider and MS took action to align the digital version, so we shouldn't all rush off at DSE, they did follow though on all of the other Pre-Orders including Destiny being delivered on release day for 45!

JB site does say it's out, I haven't been in store to see if you can actually grab one, however its possible the delay in shipment affected retailers differently, JB is probably a bigger customer or something of similar nature.

I was waiting to Pre-Order Forza Horizon 2 for the free Thursday freight (well now its the 2 dollar freight) and then it disappears from the website, I got so worried I rushed to the local DickSmith and asked the counter guy if I could Pre-Order Forza Horizon 2 LOL and he said yea sure, I was so glad I managed to get in on the pre-order discount before anyone at DSE figures out the stock problems and notifies stores to stop taking orders, its already gone from the site! But I will sleep well now LOL.

He did however tell me I'd receive a call tomorrow when they are 'likely' to receive the game, not sure if that's just something they say or it was in the system.

But lets see what happens with you guys who've had it on pre-order for a while.

    • There are four people on my friends list playing it right now

    • I went to the Perth CBD store to pre-order it on Wednesday, but they said that they have already pre-allocated all their stock, and that they'll take my details down and let me know when they get extra copies in. They said that they'll honor the pre-order price since I attempted to do it before, but it still remains to be seen.

      • Wow, perhaps I got lucky with my store, its a fairly small one in a mall, but that's really awesome of them to honor the pre order price, shows they care!!

        • +1

Didn't have it in stock at my local store when I went in to pick up the preorder so they are giving me an extra $10 off when I pick it up on Monday. Pretty happy, ends up being about $45 for horizon 2!
