Hi, can the kenyan / ethiopian be used in an espresso machine? If not, can we just get 1 x 480g costa and 1 x 480g southern?

    Thanks!

    • They should be ok for an espresso machine just that they are being roasted lighter so they suit filter better. Unfortunately not cost effective to offer the 2 x 480g due to shipping and cost of these particular coffees. They can be bought individually to the roast level you desire through our standard website listings though :-)

Love to try these - but like @howser99, light roasts aren't that much use to us.

I'd be happy to see an offer for interesting Medium Dark Roast/Espresso blends or even an option to get doubles on the espresso options in this offer.

Sure, I understand. Needs to be roasted this way as it's the actual batch I'm entering in the roasting comp and I'm entering them in the Pour Over category.

I'll consider a way to offer some as a darker roast in a future deal

          Ditto.

@mannabeans: goodluck in the competetion mb

  • Sorry, this question has probably been asked a million times, but is it alright to freeze beans? I don't think I would be going through them that quickly as I just make a coffee per day.

    • +1

Many people do and there is much debate on this subject around the coffee forums. If you do then probably best to freeze the unopened bag once and make sure it's thoroughly defrosted before use

      • Thanks for the reply, I'll take that into consideration!

        • FWIW, I've always frozen my excess beans, with no discernible change to flavour in the end consumption product, regardless of where they were sourced.

Coffee snobs will vehemently disagree, almost to the point of fisticuffs IME, pulling out all the puffery under the sun about oils & evaporation & solar flares etc, etc; but if you could convince them to actually do a blind test, you'd find they likely couldn't pick the difference between the thawed beans and the Emporer's New Clothes! :P

  • Please allow 1x480
    4 is too much

    • Unfortunately not cost effective to offer a deal on smaller amounts due to shipping and cost of these particular coffees. They are available to order on our website though through the standard pricing structure :-)

Ordered! Thanks Manna - I look forward to trying all these ones!

    • Thanks Dale :-)

Is it possible to buy extra bags with the order, to get say 8x 240g instead? Makes it much easier to freeze and thaw in smaller quantities without opening them

    • No problem, happy to send extra bags if you wish to split them down yourself. They are 70 cents each which can be sent through Paypal and please leave notes. :-)

  • Will these be ground enough to be used in plungers e.g. 1 cup plungers? Or will taste/extraction be not worth it?

Also given the volume of coffee without freezing how long would one packet stay fresh/decent tasting if unopened?

    • Sorry once this is answered could I also ask since i like my dark, deeper "strong" body like tasting flavour of coffee (when i say strong sometimes it's misunderstood as caffeine strong, although I will say the more shots the more strong the taste so it can be mistaken as a nice coffee - essentially just something that tastes real dark, smooth, not too acidity, hope I'm not being /sounding too picky) so is it therefore possible to still do the combo of 4, but choose not to get say the light roasts as I assume these are 'lighter' on taste. if i'm not generalising? Please correct my lack of coffee beans understanding if I'm wrong.

      THanks OP!

      • Hi Saber,

These will go great in plunger especially the lighter roasted coffees. The darker you roast the more flavour acidity and caffeine you burn off.

Different coffee beans suit different roast styles and also different brewing methods and these particular coffees will all work well as both lighter and darker roasts(lighter for pour over and plunger and a bit darker for espresso.

Unfortunately I'm unable to change the roast styles with this deal as they need to be roasted at the profiles I've offered for the specific categories I'm entering them in the competition.

For anyone who needs specific roast styles they would need to buy through our standard website pricing as it would most likely require an individual small batch roast just for you.

Best drunk within the first 2-3 weeks so if planning to keep longer then perhaps you could consider the freezing option that was being discussed earlier in the thread.

        • Hi mannabeans,

THanks for your response. To build on what you said about dark roasts, so they do away (burn off) the caffeine and acidity over a light roast? Now I was always under the impression that when I have a flat white that real strong taste (commonly mistaken by less reglar drinkers as a very strong coffee, or too much caffeine etc) is what I love, becuase I can really taste the coffee notes through the milk. I don't have the best pallette and so I'm afraid a light plunger style roast would not be tasted as I add a small tinge of milk to my plunger or perculator style coffee, andmy flat white is a flat white i.e. more milk.

So should I be going for 'acidity' per se? I tasted a coffee on saturday which was described as a high acidity which is why despite feeling 'light' and not that 'strong' flavour which I associate with a dark roast, i could taste a very unique, almost two tone flavour, where i really tasted a nice tangy taste at the end, which really intrigued me.

So now im torn between whether i just happene dto like an once off , highly aciditic light roast, and whether i am a dark roast at heart. Am i mixing up that dark, strong coffee taste due to many shots in the coffee with discounting that a light roast is not appropriate.

To put it into perspective, if i had to choose a nespresso pod i'd go for the purple arpeggio, and although not as strong flavouring to me i'd go a fortissio lungo as my next choice. I know nespresso pods aren't anywhere liek the 'good stuff' but thought this might make it easier to describe.

Unfortunate about your roasting selection in this deal, but thanks anyway. Good luck for the competition and I still have your website open so I will keep in mind perhaps ordering a packet to try sometime.

Hi Rep I just purchased (receipt # 5317-4064-2575-9665), however is it possible to get 2 x Costa & 2 x Southern?

  • Can you do 2 x Costa & 2 x Southern or all 4 roasted for espresso?

    • Sorry guys but I'm in short supply of the Costa Rica Black honey and my next shipment has been delayed. Also this is a much more expensive coffee and I'm not able to customize on this occasion.

You're welcome to leave notes about preferring espresso and I'll always try my best but I can't promise anything.

  • I plunge at work and do milk and straight espresso at home so this is perfect for me. I was just thinking the other day that I would love a combination deal from manna so I've ordered, thanks.

Now I just have to figure out how to grind different beans simultaneously for milk and straight espresso at home with one grinder..
