Exetel Unlimited with 3GB for $49.95 (4G)

20

With an upgrade to the new iPhone 6 I was looking for a cheap 4G month to month with all the trimmings. Cheapest by far for those looking for unlimited calls/sms/mms. These guys also have 3GB of data and include calls to 13/1300 and 1800 numbers. Uses the optus network also. As cheap as it gets

    Worth checking out Whistleout ;
    http://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/Unlimited-SIM-Only…

    There's cheaper out there, but less data like you said.

    Also, same plan is $45 from Optus direct - but again, less data…

    Really wish mobile data plans would increase.. :/

    • +2

      Does Whistleout exclude all the OzB choices on purpose? No $20 Telechoice, $18 Vaya really?

      • That link is for unlimited, the plans you mention aren't. Pretty sure they list them though, maybe not the Kogan/Telechoice one…

        • +1

          No, I have navigated to the normal BYO page with $30 as a monthly limit. They are just not there. Perhaps they did not pay Whistleout enough.

    • +1

      Thanks for that site mate. Good to know what unlimited plans there are out there.

    On Optus = Average Reception IMO

    • +2

      Depends on where you are. Some areas, Optus is as good as Telstra but costs less.

      • +2

        This is true, but the second you leave major cities i find optus lacks pretty horribly. - Source, being on optus for 3 years travelling in regional areas with no reception.

        Telstra is expensive, but it works.

        • Agreed. Though, for me, my work phone is with Telstra and I only head out into regional areas for work so I'm covered regionally when I need it. When I'm using my personal phone, it's usually in metro areas and if I'm venturing to regional areas on non-work matters, I generally like being off the grid. Each to their own I guess.

        • I live in regional area, and my regional town has an optus tower with no telstra tower. where I live with Telsta you barely get reception outside, optus you get full reception inside. I find once you leave any town you pretty much lose all mobile coverage irrespective of which mobile phone company you choose, unless you stick to a major highway.

  • I've had a weird problem with exetel a couple of times now, on the $17 with 2GB data. What happens is they advise me that I'm at (x%) of my data allowance and so I slow down - or in last month's case I asked them by phone to block it for the rest of the month as they said I'd gone over 100% (they told me this via SMS & on the phone). Then when I get the bill I'm nowhere near the % they say - like last month which said I'd used only 50%. Have emailed them but no response.
    All that to say 3GB might not be 3GB - or you might not really know if you're near 3GB.

    • How do you get 2GB for $17? There are only 3 plans on the Exetel website that I can see:
      - $20 -> 500MB
      - $30 -> 1GB
      - $49.95 (the one in this deal) -> 3GB

      Or is that no longer available?

      • +1

        Old plan, the wonders of being able to keep it up!

  • Vodafone $50 per month.Unlimited plus 300 min international calls, $5 a day roaming. I got it for half price, first 6 months.$25/ month.

    • Was contemplating this when before posting the deal. However my brother is with Vodafone and is yet to see any major changes they keep talking about. Purely subjective I know but maybe others can comment in comparison

    Otherwise equivalent Spintel XL Plan (Optus 4G, unlimited calls, sms, mms), but with a 2.5GB data allowance instead of 3, for $36 a month.

    OP, if you reckon that extra 500MB is worth an extra $14 a month, good luck to you.

    • Excludes 13/1300 and 1800 numbers and yes as you said has 500mb less. Whether that in itself is worth an extra $14 depends on how often you make such calls…

      • +2

        Spintel plan includes 13/1300 and 1800 numbers.

        • https://www.spintel.net.au/static/terms/SpinTel_Mobile_Servi…

          "National Call is a direct dialled voice call from a SpinTel mobile service on the Optus mobile

          network to a fixed

          line or mobile service (connected to an Australian Network)
          in Australia. This excludes: Calls to fixed or mobiles provided overseas; calls to
          13/1300/1800 numbers;

          Premium Numbers;
          calls to satellite phones

        • @Mugsy:

          Interesting dunno why they contradict. Seems to for each gb after costs an extra $10 which would bring it to $46 for 3.5gb. Definitely trumps my deal :P

        • @bemybubble:

          I think the page you were looking at simply defines National Call which 1800 numbers etc don't fall under according to them but is still included in the service. A bit silly really.

        • @bemybubble: I recommended the Spintel plan on OzBargain a couple of months ago.
          I rang Spintel to confirm included-call types, given apparent discrepancies.

          Those discrepancies may relate to new legislation coming into play, which will mandate freecall-number access on all fixed and mobile services in Oz.

          I trust that you haven't already signed-on with the exe mob ;)

        • @Tas:

          No way. Still waiting my boot email from Vaya saying my $29 a month plan is about to expire. Then I will be making a dash to someone new…!

    • Does Spintel round up data sessions to the nearest MB like Vaya does? Their wording seems to be a bit contradictory on this, though it may just be my interpretation. Would be good to hear from someone who's actually confirmed this, or actually on Spintel.

      Thanks in advance.

        A rep turned-up in a thread a few days ago and posted this comment.
        Hopefully, she wasn't fibbing.

        • Thanks.

          It's just annoying how all of the official documents on Spintel's website are so poorly-worded!

  • I have been with Exetel for the past 4 years, they are fine. They are using Optus network. Also, you can set a limit of $100 excess on your plan, when other companies are more like $300 (e.g. Virgin).

    exetel are crap, avoid.

    • Why?

    What about good old Telstra?

    Pay $50 prepaid cap, get $1000 worth of calls and 0.8GB data. Then buy a $49 data pack with your $50 real cap, which gives you another 3GB, so 3.8GB of Telstra 4G!!!

    And prepaid gives you heaps of flexibility. Use if for 3 months then quit if you don't like it. Or perhaps downsize your spending next month, so pay $40, get 0.6GB + 2 $20 packs = 2GB. But the month after, spend the $50 again to get 3.8GB. And if you run out of data on day 28, just pay the $40/$50 again at that point.

    I also use android, and get the cap credits to pay for android apps, Telstra cloud, MOG and AFL subscriptions, and MOG/AFL/Bigpond are also uncapped. Finally, it rolls your real credit over, so I had enough to buy roaming packs for Europe last year too, but I often don't go over the included data, so some months get $30 worth of credit rolled over.

    • +1

      I read the new packs stopped this.

      • +1

        Yeah they change that deal unfortunately.

      • might as well call that a plan with no data ..
        0.8gb 4G lol

    For those with a Health Care Card - what about this?

    http://betterlife.org.au/mobile-plans

    Unlimited talk*, Unlimited SMS*, 3GB data, for $33 a month.

    Unlimited talk*, Unlimited SMS*, 6GB data, for $43 a month.

    Without a Health Card Card I believe it costs $3 more a month?

    4G - OPTUS Network - Data measured in KB -

    Minimum term. There is no minumum term. The service is month to month paid in advance

    Included call value - the following services are provided for one month for $33

    • Unlimited calls to standard national fixed lines,

    • Unlimited calls to standard national mobiles

    • Unlimited calls to 13, 1300, and 1800 numbers in Australia

    • Unlimited calls to voicemail

    • Unlimited standard SMS and MMS nationally

    • 3GB data

    • Where on their website does it say that data is measured in kb and that non HCC holders just pay an extra $3?

      • If A3 can confirm that, it even betters the Spintel offer for non-HCC holders.
        Also, the 6GB data-allowance at the price quoted will also be very useful for some.

        • Agree. Though only for those who know they'll use that much per month.

          If I'm reading the spintel page correctly, we can sign onto the S plan at $18 per month and as you need more calls/SMS/data, we get bumped up to a max XL across all 3 categories equating to $36/mth (assuming one doesn't go over 2.5Gb data usage). For light users who may from time to time make a lot of calls, sms' or use a lot of data, this might be a better deal.

        • @Mugsy: Yup, relative to the conventional excess-data on some plans (like Telechoice- $250 per GB…), the 'bump' will work nicely for quite a number of people - who otherwise face the dreaded 'bill-shock'…

    • Emailed them re: this

      "Yes we are Optus 4G

      Prices with a HCC are $33 for unlimited and 3GB. Without a HCC its $39"

      • Ok, so $3 above Spintel for your extra 500MB.
        Up to you to decide, my friend!

    • Have a quick question if anyone can help answer here. Under their "information about our mobile phone plans" they state, "You are not permitted to purchase any other charged services or products like music and apps on your BLC account". Does this mean that you cant use your data to download apps onto your phone? I know it sounds crazy, but just want to clear this up. Thanks

      • I'd say it would be more those 'charge to account' services..

      • They are just looking to avoid any confusion, pinoy_ako07. Telstra allows the use of plan-credit (real$credit, not 'call-credit') for Google Play purchases.

        Irrespective of whether you have an iPhone or Android, you can use your mobile data - from any provider - to download your apps.

  • Is this better than Amaysim Unlimited? $44 a month with 5Gig and unlimited calls and text.

    EDIT: Looks like Metro only "4G coverage is currently limited to selected metropolitan areas with further roll out anticipated in the next 12-18 months."

    • +1

      I don't think Amaysim use any of the Optus 4G network at all. They are 3G only.

  • Lebara unlimited calls/text national plan 29.90aud

    • 2gb data and uses the vodafone network. Not sure if 4g either…

      • Like Lycamobile, Lebara used to only offer 2G plans. Both now on 3G (Lyca on Telstra).

  • No deal!

    $36 for unlimited calls and texts and 2.5GB of data on the Optus network (including 4G where available):
    https://www.spintel.net.au/products/mobile

    The extra 500MB of data is hardly worth paying extra $14 for.

    • it only $39 , so it only $3 more but + 500mb
      but for healthcard is $33 which is $3 less
