LiveConnected price hike $9.90 freeze fee

So I just got an email from LC stating that for me to keep my current $11.99/mo plan I'll have to start paying a $9.90 fee! The service hasn't been super great during the time I've been using it with random downtimes and nonsense, and so I think it's time for a change.

Does anyone have any positive experiences with budget phone companies that are better value than what I've got now ($500 calls, 1.5gb)?

Thanks for any help!

  • Haha, I'm in the same boat :)

FYI Vaya owns LiveConnected but run them as competing brands with LC being more expensive.

  • I think a lot of us ozbargainers are in the same boat .. either LC or VAYA.
Time to switch if theres something better out there.. $18 seems to be the equivalent Vaya (post paid) plan but keen to hear if there are others out there

  • check out spintel (but they do the same per MB billing shit - my usage doubled on Vaya with this model so I got out of there) or Jeenee Mobile which is per KB billing and is a nonprofit org

      Hey Markopolo,

Just to confirm that SpinTel bill in MB no KB's. Let me know if you need more information.

      • Hey Gina,

Given how many people are on OzB asking about alternatives to Vaya would Spintel be interested in doing some kind of Vaya refugee special?

I quite like the design of the Spintel plans with the "bumping" feature but unfortunately at the low usage end it's just slightly too expensive.

      Hey Markpolo,

To confirm, data is counted per KB (per session) and not rounded to the nearest MB per session. At the end of the month the entire months KB usage is calculated and rounded totalling in MB usage. This is beneficial for the customer because you’re only getting charged for the actual data you’ve used as it’s calculated per session.

Let me know if you need more information.

  • I reckon theres enough buying power on ozbargain to get a good discount somewhere!

I'm thinking Telechoice as Vaya increments per MB. Pay a bit extra but on the Telstra network.

    lol 82% price hike.

  • yes same boat, got the email last month. I don't think you will find a cheaper alternative though. I hardly use any of the credit, but the 1.5gb of data is handy as I tether to my iPad.

  • im in the same boat - just got the email and am considering what to change to!

How do you go about leaving them? Do you port out to someone else first - then contact LC to cancel the account? I can't find what the process is

    • It's basically lazy tax.

The normal porting process is that you simply sign up with a new provider and the new provider initiates the port. The old provider finds out that you're no longer a customer when they receive the port order from the new provider.

At least that's how it's been for me switching from TPG -> Telstra -> Vaya.

  • Any idea what rates per min mobile national calls are charged at? With telechoice

    • 97¢/min + 40¢ call connection

Since you asked 3 times in 3 different threads:D

  • Just got the email as well. Considering changing to vaya $18.

    $650 credit.
    1.5gb data

It's compatible with 4g as well.

    • Billed in MB not KB

  • I got the same email today.
I think $9.90 increase is expensive but $22 p/m is still great for 1.5gb(billed in KB which makes huge differences compare to MB) and $450 call.
Does anybody know whether the service will be changed to 4G if I decide to stay?

    • Yes. It should say in the email The good news is that you can now KEEP your current plan AND enable 4G on your service, however it would be subject to a $9.90 Plan Freeze Fee per service per month

      • +1

theres no mention of 4G in my email

"The good news is that now you can now KEEP your current plan, however it will be subject to a $9.90 Plan Freeze Fee per service per month."

      • Mine too doesn't mention about 4G. It says my service will be 'exactly' the same.

  • Got the email. Been on the $7 per month for 2 years now apparently. I barely use call/text credit and just data. Any plans I should go with? Right now I have the vaya $18 p/m to choose from

    • If I only used data, I would go for Amaysim PAYG and get 10gb add on for ~$100 to use for a whole year. and their call rates are very low with no flagfall. So you are basically getting ~833mb internet + 30minutes of call = ~$13.5pm. And its a prepaid which is a huge plus for me.

  • I have got the same email from Vaya for both Wife & I. Both on old $11 plans and use about $200 of talk time and about 500mb of data so at the moment vaya $18 plans looks the best option for us. Thoughts?

  • Hmmm waiting for DDay for my $29 unlimited 4gb with $100 of international calls to end with vaya…

  • Contacted LC cos I didn't get the email and was told that it doesn't seem to apply to my account. I've never had an issue with LC. They even gave me 20% extra data when I was hospitalised for a few days and using way more data I normally would. Probably only a matter of time before I lose my cheap plan tho.
