Good advice! I've been running the 64bit RTM version of Windows7 for a while now, and have installed both x86 & x64 on a number of other's machines and I can't recommend it highly enough over Vista! Much leaner and consistently faster, more stable & reliable, less bloated, simpler to use interface, and some really nice UI touches (some look like they're borrowed from Apple's UI, but we won't hold that against them!), good driver base (esp for RTM) and compatibility.
Wasn't there a deal posted here a while back with discount student Technet subscription giving unlimited 1yr access to most MS products on the cheap?
Also, IIRC Ultimate purchasers were among those who missed out on the free/discounted upgrade to 7, I believe only Home & Premium were generously deemed eligible by MS! :(
