When people talk about booking directly with the hotel are they talking about looking at their online prices or do you actually need to ring to 'see what they can do for you?'
I was talking about the online price on the Hotel's own website. I've found that when you ring them to 'see what they can do for you', if you are trying to book a long way out they can't usually do anything for you.
They might be able to if you are booking at short notice, but not months away.

Dammit, I literally booked accommodation less than 1 hour ago, and came on here first to find if there were any coupons. Hotel has no cancellation fee though so I could cancel and rebook…
Call ratestogo they shloud credit you something into a hotelclub account
Yeah was with a different booking site though, overall I think i'd save about $7.5 if I cancelled and rebooked. Will just let it pass :p

Just booked with Webjet instead, used code SAVE50 (saving $50 for bookings over $300) worked out a lot cheaper than this. You can use your flybuys points too as well as gettting 6.9% cashback through Qwibble.

I actually found with this 20% off code Ratestogo beats every contender if you spend less than $200 except the following: If you have Amex and registered your card to the Hotelclub offer, you will get $50 off when spending over $200 with them.
I booked through Ratestogo the other day with the code getaway20 (20% off) and paid with my amex - I received the "Congratulations" email saying I had qualified for the statement credit. The charge has appeared on my statement as HOTELCLUB PTY LIMITED. So it seems you can use both the codes and the statement credit (although the statement credit hasn't come through yet - they usually take a few days).
Damn. I should have waited a few more days. I am cancelling my booking and re-booking using Amex. Thanks for that.

Thanks OP. Had a look at a hotel I want to book for March next year but even with this discount applied, the price is way higher than booking direct with the hotel.
In fact all the other booking sites were higher than booking directly too!
