  • I'm quite sure it'll work on traditional cooktops, but could anyone from experience tell me how well do they work?

    Cheers

I've bought a pair of the Classica 24cm pans - one flat, one ridged for grilling - and they work fine on electric or gas.

They go for $15 at K-Mart and Big-W which might be cheaper than COTD when you factor in P&H. They're in the camping section, as they have a folding handle, and they're a little thinner and lighter than normal cast iron cookware. I've seen the 36cm ones for sale as well, but don't recall the price.

The pre-seasoning makes it hard to do your own seasoning, as you need to take the original layer off to put your own on. Good quality cast iron frypans are polished smooth, which leads to a smooth seasoned finish; these aren't smooth. They aren't non-stick as-is either, and mine seem to rust if I don't oil them, so I have no idea what the coating is supposed to be for.

I like them, but I don't see this as much of a bargain.

Oh, and they're not much good for frying (they aren't non-stick), but they're great for browning sous-vide steaks (they take a very high heat, and are thick enough to hold it when you put the steak on). They might be handy for vehicle-base camping, given that they fold up; they'd be a little heavy for hiking.

  • Pre seasoned? as in used?

Nah…they pre seasoned as in already added the seasoning. Just stick on a steak and the flavour will automatically be there

its non stick if used properly

  • Its cast iron it works on all cooktops including induction. Even heat distribution and good heat retention. good for searing your protein before oven baking it or drenching it in melted butter with a hint of garlic and/or rosemary.

Youtube should show you how to take care of these babies.
