  • From the looks of this these are imported from Hong Kong. Do they have the same standard 2 year warranty if you purchased through MS or local retailer?

Warranty section if you click on a product and look says there's a 12-month Australia-wide warranty provided. Says the return postage to you is covered so I assume you ship it back at your own cost.

The SP3 has some overheating issues, not sure if Microsoft has sorted it out yet. http://hexus.net/mobile/news/tablets/73693-users-reporting-m…

No real issues, it looks like just a bug that affects the i7 model.

“The Surface Team is aware of a very small number of Surface Pro 3 Intel® Core™ i7 devices that are temporarily restarting and incorrectly showing a 'Thermometer Gauge' icon while attempting to boot up. Our investigation reveals that the system is triggering this event sooner than it should for some people, only when the device restarts, and this does not occur when the device is booted and running. We have an update that will address this that will be ready for our customers as soon as possible.

I do not know if Microsoft offer an International Warranty.

However, the Australian Model has a One Year Warranty - not a "standard 2 year warranty".

Perhaps you were confusing Miscrosoft's Warranty with the Australian Consumer Guarantee?

Guys just wanted to log in to let you know that the SP3 (and SP2) come with an international MS warranty.

In fact if you register your SP with Microsoft AU you will get 2 years warranty.

I got my SP3 from the United States, registered with Microsoft AU still got the 2 years same as my AU purchased SP2.

Cant comment on Yatango itself, but in terms of the Surface Pro no need to fear imports of these.

Would you please supply a link to this "2 years warranty"?

I can only find info, on a one year warranty for Australian stock/models. Maybe there is some confusion because they call it an one year Express Warranty?

I know that SAMSNG and some others offer a two year warranty - just can't find evidence of the Microsoft Warranty.

        EDIT:
Microsoft Warranty info. that I found.

        • Yep, all over the MS website it will say 1 year.

However if you jump on to whirlpool or other AU tech forums you will see many people noting the 2 years even for MS mice and KB's. I imagine its for legal reasons why they haven't put it on the site as many consumers would view it as a good thing but either way its real.

best I can do is say hit up the SP2/3 thread on whirlpool or heres a screenshot of my warranty, take it for what you will.

        • @Osiris: My Surface 2 came with 2 years warranty which is clearly listed in my online surface profile.

I bought it here and had problems when I was in the US. They sent me a brand-new replacement while I was there.

Linus Sebastian is not fond of the Surface Pro 3 (or any of the Surface line to be more accurate), I seem to share his opinion on lots of hardware choices so that's probably going to steer me away from buying one. Though I'm sure many will disagree too.

    • Best tablet in the market currently imo, hardware wise. Asus is just screwing around with android tabs docking into windows keyboards and samsung just left the market before releasing that 1800p monster tablet.

I don't like having to pull out the heatgun to access the msata (samsung tablets only needed a guitar pick) but that's how they make the money i guess.

    • +2

As a current user of the Surface Pro 1, I think it all depends on what you intend to use it for. I enjoy watching Linus' stuff but i find that most people tend to discuss 'specs' without reference to its potential usage.

So in my line of work where I do weekly presentations, my workflow consists of:
      1. hand writing notes
      2. typing up notes into a word document
      3. transferring word document onto tablet to do presentation from.

Before i bought the SPro, i needed 3 different 'tools': notepad + pen, computer, tablet. But with the SPro i only need one single device. So effectively it has made my workflow much cleaner by now having a single device.

So this deal for the Pro 3 is REALLY tempting for me: bigger screen, better pen etc. But i understand that those things may count little depending on what you intend to use it for.

If you're in the market for just "a tablet" or just "a laptop", then i definitely agree that i'd probably look elsewhere

Worth noting that Yatango were formerly known as mobicity.com.au who are not highly regarded, generally because they lie about having products in stock and do not ship until weeks or months afterwards. A friend of mine also ordered a phone which was received damaged, box opened and with no cables.

    • +1

      Thank you!!

I was wondering why I started receiving their emails out of nowhere! (Previously registered with mobicity).

    • +1

I had good experiences with mobicity in the past. Bought a number of phones and tablets from them. Had to do a warranty claim with a tablet which turned out great - it was a manufacturing defect (wet-screen-look problem with the original Tab 10.1), so after swapping 2-3 times they gave me a refund with no hassles and I bought the 8.9 instead.

      • I've only ever bought one phone from them and they were fine. Quick enough shipping, good packaging, no issues.

Also just talked to them in live chat and they are very up front about stock, shipping etc.

    • i ordered 2 days ago, and have already shipped

Good deal for those who don't have a university student email to purchase from Ms with their discount

  • dont forget u need to factor in the type cover which is $150 or $135 with student DC at microsoft site.
OR try haggling at JB, i got offered $115 but got the type cover 2 (they didnt have much colors or stock though) instead as, if someone can confirm, the type cover 3 (AKA pro cover) is not compatible with Surface RT as it does not clip on properly due to magnet positioning?

    • Won't the type cover 2 look weird on the SP3 as it's a different size and shape?

In any case, I thought all the covers work with all the SPs?

      • yea it is bigger but newer, but upon searching google people say it works but cant clip on properly? if im wrong then i would be dissapointed that i bought old tech

  • It would be good if they could price the i5 128G model at $999. It would avoid the GST and also the customs processing fee. This would be a BARGAIN at $999.

  • I wouldn't touch the core i7 models currently, they still have overheating issues

    • I wouldn't be too concerned about a high-profile software bug like that, especially one that doesn't happen while the device is running. MS will fix it quickly to save their reputation.

“Our investigation reveals that the system is triggering this event sooner than it should for some people, only when the device restarts, and this does not occur when the device is booted and running,”

  • When I click on the link for the i7 256GB it is coming up as $1549. Is that right?

  • Ask friends if they're full time students. Just like apple stuffs you can get 10% too

  • +1

They still charge you GST when you try and purchase it. Comes out roughly the same as JB Hifi or Harvey Norman. :(
