Audio Technica
ATH-M50x

Professional Monitor Headphones

(With Straight & Coiled Detachable Cables)

The New Black ATH-M50x Monitor Headphones from Audio Technica is identical to the highly praised ATH-M50 in sound performance and overall interior. The only but the biggest difference is the "Detachable Audio Cables" which was the most demanded request of AT lovers. ATH-M50x comes with a detachable 1.2 m - 3.0 m (3.9' - 9.8') coiled cable, detachable 3.0 m (9.8') straight cable and a  detachable 1.2 m (3.9') straight cable (for mobile/street use). These plugs connects to your left ear cup and features a twist-to-lock design which secures the connection firmly in position.

The ATH-M50x offers an incredibly accurate listening experience in a lightweight, comfortable design. The 45mm neodymium drivers provide a wide frequency response of 15Hz to 28kHz so you can  hear the lowest bass and highest trebles. The adjustable, padded headband and cushioned earcups let you listen for hours long recording sessions and general everyday use without fatigue. The earpieces can swivel for easy single-ear monitoring, and the collapsible design is great for storage and travel.

  • EDIT: Nevermind!

  • One of us, one of us..

  • Anyone rate these for gaming? I hear mix reviews about the sound stage…

    • +1

Do not buy anything other than open headphones if you care about sound stage.

There is a world of difference between the two.

AD700 is roughly the same price

If you're fine with open headphones, the AD700 is way better for gaming and cost the same.

    • Thanks for the comments will look into AD700.

    • The only problem is warranty right? I bought my AD900X from DWI which isn't an authorised seller since I knew it was unlikely that there were fakes out there.

I really want them, wonder if I should or not.

What you do with your money is up to you, my friend.

      • I have heard A900X compared to AD900X (which I own) and quite frankly, I would never, ever pick up the A900X's unless I needed isolation.

Closed is rubbish compared to AD900X unless bass is so high of a priority that you're willing to sacrifice sound stage.

        • I want to get the M50X, not A900X. Reason is I want a pair closed and portable for travelling/not at home.

        • @Yanoflies:

Fair enough on the application, the reason I cite the A900X is because they are quite a bit more expensive than the M50X and both are closed headphones by Audio Technica.

I have extensive usage with AD900/AD900X and I really did not like A900X (or the M30) after listening to opens for so long.

        • @LordRichington:

It's hard to enjoy closed cans after having experienced good open ones like the AD900X. Sadly, there's no choice when it comes to a portability. Hopefully I won't outright dislike the M50X as I've just ordered them :P.

        • @Yanoflies:
          Why don't you get IEMs?
No closed cans are more portable than IEMs.

For those interested, I managed to find this:

We "Gadgetbliss" are not authorized distributors of Audio-Technica products in Australia, we import all our genuine electronic gear from mainly Europe, U.S.A. and Singapore. We never import any of our goods from China or Hong Kong, we are stating that all our items are genuine, authentic goods for all our customers and interested parties to see (this is a legally binding statement). Please buy with confidence!

From an old thread on Whirlpool.

  • i tried on the shop once, not sure maybe because it was demo item but it couldnt stay on my head firmly, even when light head shake the headphone will slide.

i saw someone with gold colour edition, cool!

  • I have the ATHM50. For a non-audiophile, I think the sound is fantastic, mine are still performing strong despite some heavy punishment over 2 years. Unlike my friend's Bose QCs the Pleather have not cracked (but do show increasingly larger creases). Do not get it if you have big ears - mine aren't even all that big and after about 3 to 4 hours they get a bit uncomfortable due to the pressure.

    • Replace your pads brother! Shure SRH-840 Earpads feel great, won't cost you too much at all.

      • Mine needs replaced too, but I remember they cost about $40~$50 shipped, quite expensive imho.

Good price however this seems to be an overseas store with a AU return address. ACCC might not apply.

  • would it be worth getting these if I currently have a pair of es7's ?

    • M50 vs M50x.

      • derp

  • I just purchased these headphones today. And wowzers they sound amazing. Songs I've listened to for years sound new and different!

    • where did you buy them from?

  • Ordered a pair on 23/09/14 and as of today the status is still on "Awaiting fulfilment"..
Does that mean Gadget Bliss is waiting on stock?
