  • The first version isn't very good. But $110 is reasonable before the gimmick wears off

thanks. I've been tempted but don't think I'd get $117 of novelty out of it.

  • 2nd generation would be a better choice imho

      what is different between them?

      • 2 > 1

          what features are different?

        • +1

          the product number, for starters

        • @jv:

          huge difference.

          https://www.lytro.com/

Illum is basically a real camera, akin to DSLR.

Mine's being shipped to me as we speak :)

        about 30 megarays.

In something more understandable you get an output of 1080x1080 in v1 and a 2500×1738 in v2. That is roughly 1Mp vs 4Mp.

      • the 2nd gen looks like a normal camera.

    • 2nd gen is an extra $1500!

  • Just like 3D technology on TV this will slowly phase out and will end up on those top 10 unnecessary technology by a tech site/blog

    • I bought the 3D still camera from Panasonic when it first came out, the idea is great but battery and showing the 3D photos, you need to view them from the back of the camera LCD or a 3D TV.

for $170~ its still a bit expensive. I would like to see it go around Low $100~

      • ?? the 8GB version is $117.62

Can someone please advise whether this is a buy in the OzBargain spirit?

    Typical scenario…
    -It's CHEAP!!!
    -Don't need it :(
-Would be good to "play around" with it :)
-Might need it in future :S

The same product was more hyped up here at double the price a few months ago from DSE. However this was before the V2 was announced.

I said then that $99 would be a "total bargain". But now a few months down the track I think the new 'total bargain' price is $50-$75.

  • The site says it "Is made for IOS" what does that mean?

    • +1

Means they couldn't be arsed creating an official Android app for viewing the photos for it.

      • Originally the camera sw didn't even support Windows!!!

    • I just bought one for someone that has a mbp and iphone but doesn't know how to use a computer.

I assume its designed for them to be able to use! :)

Or somewhat more accurately, there is an app for it.
