    Only 30 days expiry?

    • Yes. Happy downloading. I'm trying to work out how to use it all, as is twice my usual use.

  • -4

this is good value - and if you top it up with 12GB for $120 expiring in 365 days thats 17GB over 1 year of portable WIFI for all those low volume users (and mums n dads)

    • +7

and if you top it up with 12GB for $120 expiring in 365 days

Hmm where do you get it for $120? I see $180.

      • I'd like to know also.

    • $120 figure how?

    • +3

My bad that was the old recharge cost… It's now gone up… It's $200 hence not good value :(

      :P

  • -1

    Picture is Huawei E5372T, NOT a MF91

    • Displayed sample is wrong product, as updated in deal description. Supplied unit is MF91. I have it in front of me.

    • +1

      That's what I was thinking… And it's usual price is now $99.
Still, if this model is as good (or better), it's a pretty good price!!!

  • +1

Is this Australia wide for specific to certain shops?

    • +3

Clearance product at Australia Post owned shops.

      • +1

I just went to AP Bourke St.

They have the product but it is $99 and also scans as $99 under the SKU.

So no dice at this corporate owned.

        • A pity. You asked for it by AP stock number, as this is older clearance model.
Given the standard AP signage in photo, assumed it would be Australia wide.

        • Same at the Chatswood one. $99.

Kinda makes sense if they were just getting rid of old stock.

        • @elusive:
As I updated in deal with product bar code, SIM expired 5/12. So may be a rarer deal than I expected.

  • +3

Try $200 for 365 days, the evil empire have increased it to $200

    • +1

I think its a joke how Testra has put the price up on its data. I mean, aren't we suppose to be moving forward in the world by faster and more data allowances?

      • +1

No? Heavier data usage is becoming the norm, so there is money to be made by charging more for it. Additionally, ridiculously cheap data would result in network congestion and then everyone'd be whinging about that.

        • Well its a service yes but they have me lost as I'm using Optus instead. Their data is cheaper and I haven't struck any congestion on them in the last year. Its called competition, like airfares being cheaper, supply and demand.

    • Still $180 for old customer if you recharge through Telstra.

  • +1

You can also network unlock the device from Telstra for $15 at www.freeunlocks.com. It took about 4 days but it worked. I am currently using it with Vodafone sims.

    • +17

Freeunlocks, what part of FREE don't they understand?

      • +6

        The part where it's free.

    • +3

It cost me $2.67 for an unlock code off eBay

      • What are the search terms for an unlock code for this thing from ebay? I searched telstra unlock and cheapest was $15

  • -1

    Store in title

    • +2

Already tried to update from AP to Australia Post, but says mod has to do it. They updated it. My original title with model number was too long for full store name. Sorry jv ;-)

      • -1

Thanks, I called Associated Press (AP), and they knew nothing about this deal…

        • +3

You think that's bad… I had to answer technical questions just to contact Audio Precision (AP.com)!

        • it was AAP

  • Is that expiry from activation or date of purchase? I need something like this for my eastern states trip in late September-Mid October.

    • From activation.

  • -1

E5372T blocks ports for VOIP. So if you need VOIP, get a MF91, works flawlessly but it has half the battery life

    • This deal is for MF91. Have clarified that in deal description.

      • -1

Picture shows E5372T with $49.00 next to it, so how can it be a MF91?

        • Read the deal description, not just the photo. They Velcro on samples & that's the only one the store had.

        • -1

Isn't that called bait and switch

        • @brucefromaustralia: and read the articles in Playboy as well as look at the photos!

        • @shmahoo:
          Do both? I'll go cross-eyed.

  • do these prepaid modems come with standard sim, or multi-fit sims?

    • Was waiting for that as forgot it in Deal description. Standard SIM.

  • Do these have removable full-size SIMs?

    • +6

      Why? Do you collect them?

      • Why? Do you collect them?

        Yep.

    • Yes they do

    • +1

      Yes. It just comes pre-installed.

  • +2

4G LTE 1800, 2600 MHz with up to 40Mbps data
    3G UMTS 850, 900, 2100 MHz with up to 21Mbps data

I see why they are getting rid of them now.

    • +1

Yes, older model. Care to share your opinion on speed.

      • +1

Speed wise they aren't anything special.

Vodafone have the PocketWifi Extreme for $29.50 which does 42Mbps on 3G

        http://shop.vodafone.com.au/broadband-details/buy-pocket-wif…

        http://consumer.huawei.com/au/mobile-broadband/mobile-wifi/t…

The 4G on the ZTE is gimped at 40Mbps, and with no 2300Mhz, is a deal breaker for me as I use Optus in Canberra.

        No Deal.

        • Thanks. As I am upgrading from a slow 3G Pocket Wifi 2, I grabbed this modem, to work out the details later. Knew I would learn fast here.

        • Can you provide a source on the ZTE 4G being gimped at 40Mbps?

        • no 2400Mhz

How do you determine what frequencies are in use in which region? Or is this an obvious thing to those in the know?

        • +3
        • The 2013 cnet review in deal description looked at real speeds of this Telstra MF91 against Vodafone PocketWifi Extreme & others. This modem outperformed PocketWifi Extreme in almost all tests.

        • @awoff1: Thank you.

        • Vodafone stores have the PocketWifi Extreme for $24.50 (not $29.50) with 3GB, so even better deal until November 4 ;-) I asked in store today.

        • @brucefromaustralia:

Also unlocked out of the box !!

    • LTE FDD:DL/UL 100/50Mbps (Category3);
      DC-HSPA+: DL/UL 42/5.76Mbps

That's almost as fast as you can get. Those speeds you quoted are likely real world speeds.

"With 4G speeds up to 40Mbps, typical download speeds of 20Mbps"

        Dunno what to believe ?

        • This is just Telstra marketing. They market their 4G network as up to 40Mbps. In reality this is Cat 3 and can do far higher speeds

        • +1

          @freakyterrorist:

part of their deal with the NBN in selling infrastructure was that Telstra couldn't be seen to compete with the NBN ie promote faster data speeds

    • I'm okay with 40mbps LTE for now… i will pick up their next LTE wireless modem with 700Mhz/1800Mhz when it's discounted :p

  • -1

I have had a few of these Pocket WiFi's.

The MF91 is my pick of the litter.

    Suits me better than:

    VF PW2
    VF PW Pro
    VF PW Extreme

    ZTE MF60
    Huawei E5372T
    Sierra AirCard 760S

Only wish I could find stock ZTE firmware for the MF91 and it would be perfect

  • Anyone know if this MF91 has the right LTE bands to work well with a Vodafone SIM ? Thanks.

    Edit:
    After unlocking of course.

    What's with the stupid neging?

  • These devices now activate with 3gb of data since last tuesday, also the recharge rates that are showing are also out dated

    • Usual situation - if don't get 5GB as described in photo & verified by AP staff, contact Telstra. Have had included data easily raised to promoted level before.

  • No stock at a Knox City. I was there earlier this morning.

  • Also a note of correction, these devices are $99 in a telstra shop, not $149 as originally noted

    • In deal description: *saving off RRP as shown on price sticker. That was their very OLD price on my modem…

  • +1

If u actually need 4g speeds on a constant basis, your data usage would be through the roof

  • sold out in all the metro Sydney stores….only 3 stores showing stock from last night…I'm sure its all gone now.

  • Dick smith usually has it for $99 I don't know how they could have had it for $149

  • +1

    Just picked one up.

There's one more left at Flinders Lane.

Just under 40 left around VIC.

    • Glad to hear someone benefited. Was about to mark expired as others reported not reduced or no stock.

    • Crazycs, How did you check stock in Vic? I would have thought austpost database is not connecting one to another? I am only asking so I can find out whether it's worth to go on each austpost outlet or not. Thanks

      • They can check in store. Only corporate outlets can look at what other corporate outlets have.

        • +1

That's the usual tip for AP deals. My local is very helpful. Picked up 3GB external HDD for $70 a year back.

        • +6

          @brucefromaustralia:

Here is my service to ozbargains for the day, i got them to check stock by states:

          VIC - 43
          NSW - 75
          WA - 18
          SA - 23
          QLD - 53

          Happy hunting.

        • @crazycs:
Thanks - at least that's enough stock to make this a deal.

That's the reason I provided AP stock number. Helps when you ask to check stock levels. Staff may be confused by similar product descriptions.

Will include link to your helpful research in deal description.

        • @crazycs:

          ACT or NT?

        • +1

          @tplen1:
          Seems everyone forgets about Tassie!

Most likely no stock if not listed. Ask at your Australia Post (owned) shop for other store's stock.

        • +1

          @brucefromaustralia:

          Vic includes Tas
          NSW includes ACT
          SA includes NT

        • @crazycs:
You are correct - those areas only count as regional outposts of larger States :-(

        • @brucefromaustralia: of course that should read $70 3TB HDD ;-)

        • +1

          @brucefromaustralia:
I noticed but didn't comment :) Where is Tassie?!?!?

  • went to the store and the ones here in sydney don't have them for $49 and I didn't feel like "begging for the price". sydney CBD here. Gah!

  • anyone know if these are useful as travel modems, like pick up a sim card in a different country. I mean does it allow for different global frequencies of 4G?

    • That's what I have done with older Pocket WiFi 2. Need to unlock. But check frequencies in deal specs!

    • From the looks of it, the limited frequency range is the biggest drawback for these. You may want to check your needs, but I'd probably advise against this one for travel.

  • We sell this at work (Telstra) for $99 regular price.

    • So just a $50 / 50% saving is no deal on MF91 with 5MB ;-)

As stated in deal description, its off original RRP price, as shown by sticker on box. Common tactic with clearance deals :-(

Tried to change soon after posting, but only MODs can change title. Anyone can use Report if it's important to you.

  • Cost to unlock?

  • +2

Couldnt find any at Australia Post… Got it price matched at JB. :)

    • Great! Off we go to JB.
Just don't mention it is clearance.

      • Op do you have the receipt ?
Can you upload a copy so we can try to price match ;)

    • Can you upload the receipt ?
      I need to buy one
