Been looking for a good weather station, and this unit seems like a good deal. Cheapest I found so far for USD 41.13, and for some reason the product is listed to have shipping weight of only 0.3 ounces (8.5 grams)! This brings down the shipping cost to only USD 5.05, cheaper than MicroSD cards. Amazon CA listed the shipping weight of 544g.

When will Australia gets their own atomic clock tower.

  • I've been wanting one for a while but they all seem to have greyscale screens, this one looks great

  • Strange it has batteries for the sensors when the sensors don't come with it.

Any sensors that you would recommend?

    • +8

I think you are misreading things.

Sensor Power: 2 AA alkaline batteries (not included)

Means sensor is included but the batteries for that sensor are not.

  • Im interested in getting one, just not to sure if it is wasting my money.

      It's a man toy.

      Women have magazines for gossip.

      Men have weather stations.

Be a man and more is bigger and bigger is better….

    • I find it useful to know when to turn the AC (heat) on and off (for most efficient use). Or if you have it on - how cold it is outside so you know what to wear before you go out.

      • +10

how cold it is outside so you know what to wear before you go out.

For Northern Tasmania??? I would suggest wearing something suitable for very bloody cold conditions!!! ;)
Coming from Melb, it's a rare occasion when I can pick on someone else's weather!

        • Also coming from Melbourne - I much prefer the climate here. As do heaps of other ex mainlanders.

I like to open some windows during the day if it's warmer outside (or just to change the air inside). A quick look at the weather station will tell me if it is warmer or if I'm going to freeze my bits off doing that. Or there is a point during the afternoon when it's most logical to turn the heater on (usually around 3-4pm). It's not sensible to wait till it's cold inside then try to heat it when it's 2 degrees outside.

Must resist… Attracted to technology with pretty screen colours!!!

    • +3

      But but but, the colours!

    • +2

      I didn't - sodding OzBargained again!

  • +4

Anyone know what the 5v AC adapter is, is it multi voltage (ie. 110-240v) or if not, what the ma current & the DC plug fitting is? Sounds like it is hard to read the display when on batteries as it auto turns the back light off.

Also, does anyone know if you can add extra outdoor sensor units like some other weather stations?

  • +3

Doesn't seem to have wind or rain sensors.
Two items that I find quite important in a weather station.

    • +1

yeah, my next weather station, these 2 things are a must. also want one that will sync up with the computer when I turn it on

      • surely you can just open the window and look outside?

        • +2

more of I want a dedicated program that will be able to tell me my extremes within a date range.
my current one will tell me my max-min ever.
I want to be able to load it up and be able to do a search to see what the temp got down to the previous night… the same with wind/rain.

        • +8

          @wreckedandjealous: Hmmm… let me think…
How about from the Bureau of Meteorology!!!

        • @Snoop:

you'd be amazed how much it varies from suburb to suburb

        • @effgee:
Click on my link and check their map for the amount of weather stations they actually have set up for different data! It's far more than just the capital city like they show on the news or home page!
That, and most people should have a little knowledge of their local weather!

        • @wreckedandjealous:
http://www.foshk.com/Weather%5FProfessional/ some of these will do what you want. I use the 1091 model to upload to a PC. Using the free Cumulus software will collect the data and it can then be uploaded to a website or weather underground. The HP1000 will connect direct to weather underground via your network. There are apps available to view the data from mobile devices.

    • Yeah it would at least be great to have inputs for these so you could add your own sensors at a later date.

    • Any which had these at the moment? (Wind & Rain)

I looked on Amazon there is a few, but none that looks "cool" like the one in this bargain. Any ideas?

      • Couldn't find one, most weather stations are dull monochrome unfortunately…

  • Meritline
Today: AU$ 45.93(AU$45.93 each) with free shipping. Genuine stock?

    http://www.meritline.com/la-crosse-technology-308-1412s-colo…

    • +1

Doesn't ship to Australia unfortunately, but to answer your question I would guess that its genuine

      • Thanks, you are correct that it doesn't ship to Au.

        • No worries. For Meritline I believe that only items shipping from their China warehouse ship to Australia for free. I remember they used to ship from the US warehouse for a high fee as well, but possibly not anymore (or maybe just this specific item).

  • Ahh, if only it could be hooked up to wunderground.

    • +5

      Ach ja, das wäre wunderbar!

  • Edited, sorry.
Meritline do not appear to deliver to Aus

  • +1

It doesn't have a pressure sensor! I assume it gives the forecast from the humidity trend, so in reality its a pretty clock with wireless temp and humidity sensor, not really a 'weather station'.

Looks like you gotta spend a bit more http://www.amazon.com/AcuRite-Digital-Weather-Station-Connec…

to get a semi decent weather station.

    • +1

      It does…

Color animation for your future weather and trend indicators and variety of color to display your indoor to outdoor climate. This Station Learns! The Forecast Station calibrates barometric pressure based on its location over a period of time to generate an accurate, personal forecast. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for barometer calibration. Also features temperature alerts to notify you of an extreme temperature change (programmable settings. )

      • Apologies, didn't see that bit :)

    • This one is USD $47.62 delivered so actually a bit more expensive.

      • The item in this deal has a shipping weight error of only 0.3 ounces, so the shipping cost is almost $4 cheaper.

  • Damn you OzBargain!

  • +6

Never needed one, but the shipping weight error compels me to buy.

  • +2

Sorry people - but there is a clear fault with this product…
Colour is spelt wrong. No deal from me! ;)

    • -3

That's the description from Amazon US :)

  • +1

    Great price.
I would buy if it had wind direction, so I knew which neighbour was downwind.

    • Why? So you can decide how much beans to use for dinner?

      • +1

        Close.
So I decide whether to try out my dry composting toilet :)

  • Wow look at those colours.. Must resist …

  • I don't get it? Just look out the window?

    • +2

If you live in Melbourne you cannot do that with accuracy.

For example, Last week in the morning it was 19 degrees sunny. Then comes 2pm, suddenly it rains and hails and drops to 7degrees.

If you can accuratly predict that by looking out the window, then you have a pretty awesome eye.

Its why you always hear people say "In Melbourne you can get 4 seasons on one day".

      • +1

Anyone from Melbourne knows that you have to take a pair of shorts and an umbrella with you!!!

        • yes I do. I even carry jumpers in summer. Still the awesome colours..

      • Yeah but this tells you the current weather not prediction right? So if its not raining outside… you get my point?

    • +1

I don't get it? Just look out the window?

You can tell the temperature by looking at things? :)

      • You can tell the temperature by looking at things?

Things… including my phone I can!!!

      • I can, by looking at my La Crosse colour LCD screen :D

      • Why do I need to know the temperature?

        • You? No reason. You don't need to.
Other people might like to know though.

        • For what purpose in everyday life?

        • +2

@figarow: It doesn't matter - no reason will satisfy you anyway, right? :)

        • actually just curious mate. See for me I look out the window. I can see if its cold or not. Its the way I have always done things can't imagine looking at a screen for this information lol seems very pointless. I can understand if you home has no windows or doors this might be useful.

        • +3

@figarow: With things like this, I think if you can't see the point of it, there's absolutely no reason to get one.

Not everyone can look out a window and feel through the glass what the relative humidity is, or tell how many degrees Celsius it is.

Not everyone cares either, so if you just "don't get it" like you mentioned in your original post, there's nothing to get really. Some people want to know what the temp and RH is, while people like you are perfectly happy just looking through a window. There's space in this world for both types of people without having to analyse each other.

        • @eug: I totally agree with you. Maybe I was just trying to gauge the necessity vs uselessness factor and if anyone would actually have a legitimate need for this device. With many claiming 'ozbargain made me buy it' and the cree torches piling up in OZB households Ive noticed many people just buy for the sake of getting it cheap, which I find kind of sad much like an addiction. The sad part is people tend to brag about it like it's a good thing or maybe to help alleviate the pain of a stupid decision? Either way I was just curious that's all mate :)

  • +1

Just get a jacket or hoodie for all year long in melbourne.
Warm summer is only less than 3 months every year.
Also, melbourne is raining all the time.
I bet I don't need this weather station then..

    • +2

Sure, if you don't find it useful for you, then you don't need it. Just like how smartphones are pointless for some people - they can just go home and check email or surf the web on their computer.

It doesn't mean it's pointless for others though!

  • damn you OP couldnt resist.. was 15 left before I ordered.. 12 left now..

  • Tempted but have resisted! Don't like the silver bezel. They have sleeker looking models too. Great price delivered though.

  • Purchased. I hate you :(

  • Has anyone received their unit?

    • Mine arrived today. The screen is a little smaller than I thought it was, but still good. Can confirm the power adaptor is 240v - just needs a converter plug,

  • Mine arrived today and it is beautiful. The colour looks brighter and richer than what is depicted by Amazon.
