Fantastic price. $1000 for a full-frame body with a local warranty is just ridic. I own the A7 and it is an utterly brilliant camera. I see no reason to upgrade from this.

    • Hi John,
I own a NEX 5N with multiple lenses and was thinking to have A7. But lens are quite expensive and I have heard using the APS-C lens will have cropping in images.
Do you know if it is good to upgrade now as I dont want to invest more in lenses now?

      • +1

The A7 will auto-crop your E-mount lenses (approx 10mp image) and SLR lens you adapt that covers the full frame will allow you to use all 24MP….I would still vote a good upgrade

        • Thanks. With 10 MP for E-mount lenses, will the images be better?
I love Sony NEX, but 1k is a big investment and want to assure myself for the upgrade :)

        • +1

          @Gaggy:

My experiences with full frame (Nikon D700 (12/5.6MP)/D600 (24/10MP)/D800 (36/15.6MP)) indicate that the bigger pixel size (ie lower pixel density) provide better low light performance and increased dynamic range (detail retention in shadows and highlights) at the expense of fine detail (ie my 12MP D700 shows less detail than my 12MP D300 (1.5x crop) but is better in low light situations.

In your case you will get smaller files (10MP vs 16MP) with a small improvement in low light, better colours and dynamic range. The difference in fine detail will be smaller but may be noticeable. It is worth the upgrade if you plan to get some full frame lenses in the future. Otherwise sit tight

        • +2

I'd agree on the sit tight advice. Unless you plan to get FE lenses in the very near future… you're almost certainly better waiting.

        • +1

@aim54x: Thanks aim54x. You saved me over 1k here for camera and lens :)
Looks like the price is back to normal before I could price match at Teds.

        • +2

@Gaggy: Yep can't give much more advice that what has already been said. I upgraded from a NEX-7 and sold some of my APS-C E-Mount lenses, the proceeds of which went towards an FE Zeiss 55mm F1.8 and a super-wide Voigtlander 15mm (plus adapter). Brilliant camera and two excellent lenses that should keep me going for a good long while.

        • @johnno07: Thanks John.

wow… it's getting cheaper every minute lol

i do own sony alpha mount cameras and lenses…. oh well… no money and id rather get RX100mk3 if i had the money

They are still giving away free adaptors until 30th September according to digidirect's description
    http://www.digidirect.com.au/slr_cameras/sony/sony_alpha_a7_…

*BONUS LENS ADAPTOR - REDEMPTION PROMOTION. EXPIRES September 30th 2014

With the Sony Alpha FULL-FRAME A7 Interchangeable Lens Camera, comes a very exciting opportunity for experienced photographers! Usually the biggest barrier to switching between camera brands is the investment that the user has made in their existing lenses. We hope to help users easily switch to A7 by allowing them to attach their existing FULL-FRAME lens systems to the A7!

    How it works:

    1. ILCE7B / ILCE7RB (genuine Australian product) will include a promo leaflet inside the customer retail box
    2. This leaflet has a web link and unique redemption code (code can only be used 1 time)
    3. Customer visits the website , inputs their details and the unique code (unique code = proof of purchase)
    4. The appropriate adaptor is shipped to them (via Express Post)

    Adapters Avaliable

Canon EF to E-Mount (Mark III) (Model: MB_EF-E-BM3) - Electronic Control
    Nikon G to E-Mount (Model: MB_NG-E-BM2) - Manual Control
    Leica M to E-Mount (Model: MB_LM-E-BM2) - Manual Control
    Sony A-Mount to E-Mount (Model: LAEA4) - Electronic Control

    • And they alllwaysss forget the Pentax mount..
      Every damn time

      • You can get a dumb Pentax adapter off ebay for $10. I have one, works a treat. The above are really only if you want electronic control or (Nikon) an aperture ring.

  • +1

Tempting offers and thank you for posting it.

There will be many new models around the corner from Panasonic, Olympus and Fuji which will be announced in September. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I'm locked in to the m43 mounts and as Sony has decided to go e mount instead of joining Panasonic and Olympus I can't afford to buy into it.

  • Having two mounts for one brand is ridiculous they should stick with one mount one brand or give away free adapters

    • If you are buying a body only you can currently redeem a mount adaptor of your choice (Sony Alpha/Nikon/EOS/Leica)

    • +3

You mean E and FE mount? They are the same… The FE denotes the image circle is big enough for full frame. You can use either mount on either camera.

      • +1

The APSC mode on these cameras is an awesome feature. Two lenses in 1!

    • Um, what? Canon has APS-C and FF lenses that use the same mount. Nikon also has APS-C and FF lenses that use the same mount. The Sony e-mount is exactly the same. APS-C/FF lenses and body that use the same mount.

      • I think he might be talking about Sony's A-Mount.

  • +1

Wow awesome. Was debating whether to get the canon 6d or this… New pricing Just convinced me to go the Sony

    • +1

I would consider lense prices in my calculations. For example, the closest thing to a 50mm f1.8 prime for FF that Sony has is the 55mm f1.8 which will run you almost $1,000. A similar lense in Nikon or Canon will be about $150 - and these cheap 50mm f1.8 lenses are considered to be excellent.

"Compared to the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II or Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G, the Sony is quite simply in a different class in terms of wide-open sharpness. This is only to be expected, given its much higher price and far more modern design, but it does give some idea of why Sony feels it can charge a premium for the lens." http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/sony-fe-55-1-8 ( lab test only )

While I would never deny the good reviews, make sure you really feel like you're getting 6x the lense for 6x the price - and that you honestly believe you will be able to see the difference

      • "he closest thing to a 50mm f1.8 prime for FF that Sony has is the 55mm f1.8 which will run you almost $1,000"

Yeah but like that $1000 55mm lens is a Zeiss.

      • +3

Or use the $100 Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II with the free EF metabones adapter?

      • Thanks for the pointers. I was going to use a Canon lens adapter but upon further reading, it seems that autofocus is very slow and not even guaranteed to work. Need to rethink the purchase now

  • Does anyone know if stores will prove beat this?

    • I would suggest trying Georges or DigiDirect….

      • Last time I tried to even get a price match/beat at DigiDirect with JB Hifi (when they had a sale) they laughed at me and told me no chance.

  • +1

It's a great price for a full frame system..

Its just a pity the lens selection is so poor… especially in comparison to Fuji,Panasonic etc..

I think I will stick to my Fuji X system for now, until Sony gets serious with their E-Mount lenses

    • Of course they are serious about it, 5 more lenses coming in a week @ Photokina….

$700 A7 body after selling off the adapter is insane price, I know which one I'd pick vs the X-T1 which is double the price…

24mp FF vs 16mp crop = no brainer, Fuji doesn't stand a chance, and bye bye m43.

      • +2

I don't think its as clear cut as you suggest.

The fuji system & lenses are way more compact with high quality and cheaper lenses. The XTrans sensor gives amazing sharpness for an APS-C sensor.

Sony has had the opportunity for years to establish themselves in the full frame arena but seemed to never really take it that seriously..

But I hope you are right and that they finally stick to this mount and produce some great lenses for it..

        • First of all it's not 'Way more compact'. Secondly they are slightly smaller because Fuji has a smaller sensor which requires smaller/less glass to cover the image circle.

It may be slightly better than other APS-C sensor, but it has nothing on the Sony FF sensor.

The lenses atm are limited, but lenses such as 55 1.8 is highly regarded and is one of the 50mm-ish out there.

          Also 5 more coming in a week…

      • It's not really no brainier at all anymore. Modern APS-C sensors are really, really, really good.

I took the Sony a7 and X-T1 on a trip and actually prefer the fuji images. The colour is just nicer. There's a texture to the images which is just lovely. Could of course also be something to do with the glass.

        • Yes so many alternatives out there so I just can't press the button on this despite the good prices. Even the panasonic gh4 can do real 4k internal and a7s cannot. And gh4 is still cheaper.

        • If you think X-T1 can match A7 you are just plain wrong. Do you even shoot RAW? Colour is nicer where? In camera JPEG?

          Enough said.

        • If it's good enough for the likes of Zack Arias and Bert Stephani it's good enough for me.

You go enjoy your A7. I'm not stopping you.

        • @MissKitty:
Ignore him. He sounds exactly like this guy from the Whirlpool forums who knows everything about every camera, and anyone who has a different opinion than him on a camera must be wrong.

    FYI - $22.50 - Courier to Melb
+ 1.5% for CC payment, and 2% for Paypal

  • Price increased…

    • I noticed this too. That's weird. It says the sale is until 15 August.

  • +1

Has anyone checked with the store re: when stock will arrive? ( says this on A7R product page - Next shipment due early September)

Note that condition 7.a of the Sony Cashback T&Cs states:

    register their Eligible Product within 14 days of the Qualifying Purchase by visiting sony.com.au/alphacashback, following the prompts to the product registration page, inputting the requested details (including their title, full name, postal address, telephone number, mobile telephone number (if applicable), current and valid email address, date of Qualifying Purchase, the serial number of the Eligible Product purchased, the full purchase receipt number for the Qualifying Purchase, and the Eligible Product model number) and submitting the fully completed registration form ("Online Registration Form");

    • Good point. I think I'd prefer to buy locally in store so I know I won't have issues with the cut off time.

  • Price has now gone up to $1599 (before cash-back) on the A7

  • So the price does went up.
I could swear I saw the A7s body only was $19xx this morning.
Now after I have the permission to buy, its 21xx :/

    • Yes you were right. Seen the same as you.don't bother now with the increase. Prices will drop further soon. Prices too expensive and competition is heating up.

  • I want one but I just bought the EM5 pro kit lens deal previously. Would the A7 + FE28-70 (kit zoom) produce noticeably better IQ than the EM5 pro kit lens setup?

  • Price gone up and I cannot see the $250 reduction anymore.

Better that way. Now it is an easy decision NOT to buy into Sony anymore.

I have a feeling the a7 are not moving in this country. Would have loved to try one out at the right price.

  • Hi,
    Thanks for raising that question.
A new EDM has been sent out with the coupon code for this deal. A correction has been made, as this offering was targeted exclusively to EDM subscribers. This offer remains valid with coupon code to subscribers until midnight, 15th August.
EDM subscription can be made via our facebook page (facebook.com/CameraProPtyLtd), or via our website www.CameraPro.com.au

Just signed up for the newsletter will i get the code?…

  • +1

Don't like CameraPro way of handling this. Advertise for 3 days and then pull this thing off in hours. They should at least say until stocks last.

    • Oops, posted after the above comment.

    • This offer remains in place as originally advised, with coupon code. CameraPro did not post this deal onto Ozbargain, the deal itself posted was the contents of the newsletter which was sent to customers (posted by another ozbargain member).

      • T&C:

We reserve the right to blah blah blah…….

  • Dodgy, dodgy CameraPro.

Also what the hell is EDM??? Electronic Dance Music?

    • EDM = Electronic Direct Mail (aka email subscription)….sadly this will make it harder to price match

  • I am about to buy and the price has gone up!

    • Hi,
Please refer to above comments about this

    Hi CameraPro,
How do we claim the cashback? it seems we will break the terms and condition for sony cashback if we apply the camerapro coupon code?

    • +1

      Hi CameraPro,

In Clause 13 of Sony Terms and Conditions

"The purchase of an Eligible Product under any other offer or discount provided by a participating Sony Australia authorized dealer does not qualify for this Promotion. Any claims submitted to the Promoter where the purchase was made under another offer or discount by another participating Sony Australia authorised dealer, will not be valid."

Can we claim the Sony Cashback?

      • Thanks for the microprint. Will help few users.

  • +1

    I think Krait88 is correct,

It seems like the sony T&C state that the $300 cashback does not apply for anything that are "discounted".

Can a camerapro member please confirm that the $300 cashback still apply?

Here are the extract of the T&C from Sony Cashback:

"To be eligible to claim, individuals must purchase (lay-by purchases excluded) any Eligible Product (defined below) from a participating Sony Australia authorised dealer during the Purchase Period and the purchase must not have been made under any other offer or discount provided by a participating Sony Australia authorised dealer("Qualifying Purchase"). Participating Sony Australia authorised dealers include, but are not limited to: JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Camera House, Ted's Cameras, Michaels, Diamonds, DigiDirect, Sony Centre, Sony Kiosk, Sony Online Store, Georges, Digital Camera Warehouse, Myer, Costco, Photo Continental, CameraPro, Camera Electronic, Bing Lee, The Good Guys and Target."

"The purchase of an Eligible Product under any other offer or discount provided by a participating Sony Australia authorised dealer does not qualify for this Promotion. Any claims submitted to the Promoter where the purchase was made under another offer or discount by another participating Sony Australia authorised dealer, will not be valid."

      Hi,
Thanks for raising this question. We have double confirmed this matter with Sony this morning, and can confirm that the $300 cashback is still eligible on all A7-R-S purchases. The $300 cashback is claimed through Sony directly

I think if the product is only available in September, then we are unable to claim the cashback, sony terms and conditions stated that register the cashback claim within 14 days of our purchase that must include the product serial number.

    Example:

Today my purchase date is 13rd Aug. Within 14 days to register the cash back claim, by roughly before 27th August I need to provide full details including the product serial number.

How to provide when the product will only be available early September at camerapro?

    Please advise.

    • Get Camerapro to issue another invoice dated when they actually ship out the camera?

    • +2

Guys! I just visited camerapro at the Brisbane city.

They will send us hardcopy invoice with the camera. So then we can register it on sony cashback claim!!!

And provide the product serial number as well!!

Just go ahead and order from camerapro!

Excellent service at the camerapro Brisbane store!!

      • Hi Krait88,
Thanks for the feedback, we much appreciate it.
That is correct, meaning that any delays in product receipt will result in invoice being generated at that date of stock being handed over. This still gives approximately 30 days leeway before the end of cashback period (Don't forget to claim within 14 days of the Invoice date)
        Regards
        the CameraPro team

    • In my opinion, if today 13 u make an order, this is order instead of purchase. Say, when CameraPro deliver the goods to u then it will considered as purchase together with invoice.

  • Has anyone here had used the E coupon?
