Cheap price for a reliable laptop. I've purchased from the student store many times no verification of actually being a student was required for me.

Know of something better? Or just expanding the info?

Try a 14"/15" Dell Latitude E5440/E6440 or E5540/E6540 from Dell DFO. i5/i7, some with a dGPU and 900P LCD. E5xxx units are thinner ULV type with soldered 17W CPU and expresscard slot. E6xxx units with an upgradeable 37W CPU. Latitudes are comparable (and imho better) than Lenovo higher tier Thinkpad business notebooks.

I3 wasn't in the title thus I wanted to point it out.

        Ps: negger you suck.

  • Was just looking at this… I wish they would offer an upgrade to an i5

    • +3

put your money on a Samsung SSD upgrade will much better than i5, you won't feel any different from i3 to i5. You want faster cpu, a M model is better choice.

      • hmmm but they don't let you upgrade at all… or you mean do it myself?

        • Leetec is saying that there is not a big difference in cpu performance between a i3 to i5 in the Ultra Low Voltage range, cpu number ending in u such as this model. I agree here. The M is the bigger/higher voltage range which stands for Mobile, but is larger and uses more power. Most of the time this randge of i3/i5/i7's will cost a bit more.

        • Yes, easy to do. Just don't wipe the old hhd in case you have an issue or need to send in for warranty repair.

Just for reference you can get an Inspiron with the same specs for $379 in Dell Outlet. Brand preferences obviously play a part, though.

    • Not brand loyal at all. Just want something decent. Actually for the wife for Uni.

The Dell ones are all refurbs right? No "as is/2nd hand"?

      • +1

Not all are refurbs, many are brand new (the listing will tell you). I've never purchased a refurb but I've purchased a number of new laptops from there. MUCH cheaper than retail prices.

        With the refurbs:

-You still get 1 year warranty with them
-All of them list condition as 'has some minor scratches' but this seems to be a generic description, so some may be in better cosmetic conditions than others.

        • Both Inspiron and Latitudes are the same brand, Dell. These are just two of the many ranges that Dell makes, a lot of them targeted at business or enthusiasts.

        • Thanks I'll check it out!

    • I've always found Inspirons to be a bit plasticky. Go for Latitude if you can afford it.

    • I bought a logitech one of these that looks EXACTLY the same. It's decent but the mouse pointer pad is so small it makes small moves difficult at times and like the iphone, it moves when you take your thumb off it, so if you place the cursor in exactly the right spot it moves when you remove it.

You kind of get used to it, still DEFINITELY worth it

  • hmmmm Or you could pay 24 $ extra and get the Acer Aspire

it'll get you extra 250 GB hard drive and i5, everything else seems the same except that lenovo support is getting hammered badly on whirlpool. Just check the posts there.

Also just noticed if you are keen on getting this Lenovo Laptop then you can consider.

Bonus $1 Offer Get Lenovo Multimedia Remote for just $1 when ordering G50-70. (valued at $62)
