or just use Handbrake which is always free…

Handbrake is really limited to what it can use for an output codec, being just .264 in an mp4/mkv container.

It also can't be told to convert 50i to 25p, 50p to 25p with dropped frames for a normal speed 25p playback ect. It's not something most people need but it's useful to have.

The best transcoding program is, has been and will probably always will be the Adobe Media Encoder.

I used to have FormatFactory, which is not only for video but for images, audio, target different devices, ipad, ipod, any other resolution size, and streaming configurations. it is free anyway

Handbrake does the job well. That seems to be what people in the know use. Any advantages of WinX?

    • +2

      More output codecs.

      Handbrake is built around .264

  • This isn't a Chinese clone? What backend does it use? ffmpeg? Just want to know before I download it.

I've always used mediacoder which is free - I found it much faster than handbrake and it can also do GPU encoding.

This looks pretty good too though.

  • How is this compare to freemake ?

  • How does it compare to dvd fab or convertxtodvd?

  • +1

It is the current version but to get any support or updates you will need to pay for the full version. The activation serial is the same no matter what email address you use and it doesn't have to be a legit email.

The software has to be installed and activated using the included serial before 29.7.2014

  • I am using Any Video Convertor right now - its free and works great. Looks like it has a heap more options than winx.
