you could get an iPad Mini when you settle

So if someone does everything you say they need to, they might get an ipad?

    • -1

I reckon the word 'could' is used because of the terms and conditions of the offer. Of course they'll give you an iPad if you qualify for one.

  • +15

Most, if not all, of the people on this forum will be aware of the cost of the iPad mini you're referring to.

I'd suggest you focus more on the cost comparisons to other home loans about. A $500 gadget shouldn't tempt anyone when it comes to homeloans, well not here at least.

    • +1

during some of the pass ozbargain posts the ipad mini retina wifi 16gb got down to ~$350 so meh

      • +2

Agree this is not much of a deal compared to before. Weren't they giving $2,014 for signing up? Beats the hell out of a free iPad!!

  • +11

This isn't a bargain. To get the "Free iPad" I have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest. It would be much cheaper to just buy an iPad.

    • +2

Of course you shouldn't get a home loan just because it comes with a free ipad but ubank has close to the best rate in Australia so IMO its a worthy deal. I have been with them for 3 years or so and have no complaints.

      • So the 'bargain' is the loan itself. A $500 kickback doesn't make this a bargain.

      • I would prefer a 100% Offset account rather than a basic iPad!

It's not always about the interest rate.

    • +1

You do also get a free house along with the iPad.

  • +1

    "You could"

  • +3

lol a base model ipad mini… what happened to the $2k eftpos vouchers, rep?

    • +1

Yeah, bring back the $2014 on settlement! Ubank interest rates have also just dropped …. must be nearing their customer targets so don't need to try so hard.

  • +1

UBank have very competitive rates. This is just a cherry on top for switching. You would move for the low rates.

There were better giftcards incentives previously, but this is better than nothing.

    I'm a very happy customer.

    • +1

So what you're saying is that this isn't a bargain, but the home loan rates are good. Maybe the rep should be posting the cheap home loan.

      • +3

Since the giftcard incentives ended, there's been nothing extra. Now this offer is an iPad mini, so that's the bargain compared to previously.

And yes, the home loan rates are good - the best if you take a long term view - will drop 0.1% after 3 years as a loyalty bonus making UBank the cheapest.

    Competitions are not bargains.

If your intent was to make people think highly of Ubank……you failed miserably. Bet your boss wouldn't be happy with the negativity you've generated.

  • +2

UBANK -> you don't have an OffSet Account !

  • +2

Return the $2014 gift card UBANK, and you can have my $530,000 loan tomorrow!!!

  • +4

    Thanks OP. Just got 10.

  • Just got settled today with UBank, unfortunately I made my application in June:(
Tried to ask them for a iPad mini, with no luck —_—|||

  • Cost of a home loan has a lot more involved than just rates and thrown-in-freebies. Do your homework and don't make such a big decision based on stuff like this.

Also, advertised rates mean nothing. Push for a discount with multiple lenders. If someone says they can't discount, walk away.

  • +2

These kinds of freebies for really expensive items such as cars and houses is a joke. You spend how much for such items, where all you COULD get is something worth about $400. COULD!!! Frustrating to watch people get excited about these 'deals.'

  • has anyone managed to get their bank to match these rates? currently waiting for my bank manager (westpac) to call me back but he gave me the usual - ubank doesnt have a shop front so of course they're lower. my fixed rate ends in 2 days - and yes ubank is MUCH lower than my current rates
also is this a honeymoon rate?

dear rep - I imagine quite a few of us ozbargain members received this email the other day - which was sent out to your savings account customers… A bank with not enough integrity to openly state you were reducing the savings rate - but rather use the word 'changing'.

    "Keeping 'U' informed
Here at UBank, we're committed to keeping you updated when there are changes to your account.

From Thursday 17th July 2014, our USaver base variable rates are changing. The new rates are below."

    Translated this message reads…
    'Screwing "U" over
Here at UB, we are all about NBA shareholders returns - and currently we are not selling sufficient loans, and thus are resorting to iPad gimmicks to entice our more simple fellow "U"strayans. As a result of our current situation, guess what dichead, we have just dropped your savings rate - why - because we can. "U" find yourself another bank if not happy'
