Dyson DC44 Animal Vacuum Refurbished @ Amazon. The DC44 can be used in Australia, unlike the bigger models. Worked out to be $290 delivered. I used the Amazon conversion so probably cheaper if you use 28 degrees card or similar.

The same model is retailing here for around $450 http://www.binglee.com.au/dyson-dc44-animal-handstick-vacuum…

I've had great experiences with Amazon's returns and refunds on faulty goods so I'm not too worried about the warranty.

A lot of the Dyson products don't ship to Australia, however this one is ordered and shipping to me here in 2291.

Hope it helps someone :)

  • There's comments about them being used and other people's hair stuck inside?

    No thanks.

    • Oh they're for vacuuming animal hair. I was gonna ask what is the biggest animal they will vacuum up.

I got one of these last year but had it shipped through MyUS - so just keep in mind it might be a shade cheaper using your own mail forwarder of choice (PriceUSA, hopshopgo or whatever). The unit I received was in very good condition - didn't have original packaging but that doesn't really matter.

Was almost as good as new aside from a few minor scuffs on the barrel. Accessories were all new.

    • Thanks. Myshipping was $29 from Amazon, which seems pretty fair.

  • Got that at the same price October last year. It's their "normal" price for ages…

  • Is the powerpack 110/240V switching or do you need to buy a local power adapter?

    • I just bent the prongs on mine. Works just fine on 240V.

  • Can someone who owns and likes this vacuum please help me understand why? I tried one recently and, considering the price, it seemed to have very little power. I know it looks funky and is lightweight but is that it?

    • It's OK - the "turbo" mode that makes the thing last only for about 5-6 minutes (claimed: 7-8 minutes) puts it pretty much on the higher end of the dustbuster power scale, with the normal mode good enough for just your spot cleans around the house.

I just like the Dysons because they're pretty well designed in terms of the actual product engineering (not so much the aesthetic design). Parts pop on and off easily allowing the unit to be cleaned easily, filters washed/changed, etc. just all very well thought out.

Otherwise, it's just the general convenience of it. It just fits perfectly in that niche between "main vacuum cleaner" and "handheld dustbuster". Nobody's under any illusion that it's anything other than a first-world solution to a first-world problem.

They're not a full vacuum, but it saves so much time of getting the whole vacuum out and plugging it up and all. I can recommend their build quality, i've dropped mine so many times and nothing has broken after 2 years.

  • Does it detect metal?
