thought these were only popular in Russia

    • Manufacturer should produce one with "Direct upload to Youtube" option

  • Can see it in the online catalog, so Australia wide(?)

  • Aust Post in St Leornards is selling this for $59.

  • Any example of the quality of the video it takes?

Haven't used this one but I personally used the g1w. 1080p, very good quality.

    Why use one? Stuff happens.

    • try telling that to the insurance company! "Stuff Happens"

They are useful for proving if you were in the right or wrong.
It basically takes the arguement out of working out who pays the insurance excess. lol.

I have 2 installed in my car (Front and Rear) cuz my wife drives from a suburb where people always do stupid things. e.g. forcing their way into a merge lane.

I have also heard from friends who had people back into them purposely to get insurance payout. E.g. you are at a light, and the front person starts to reverse backwards into you. Then pretend it was YOU who drove forward and hit them.

In this case, without any footage, you will either have to find a witness (other than the person in your car), who can clearly say the person in front was wrong. If you cannot find any, then most insurance agencies will assume the person who was at the back was wrong, and the person at the front was right.

Therefore in that case, you pay the excess which is usually in $500+, so if you invest in cameras now, quite good ones can be had for around $80, don't get the cheapo ones from the stores in Australia.

Read up on http://dashcamtalk.com/ for reviews and video samples, before purchasing. Do not blindly buy the cheap ones in Australia, as they are often more expensive than overseas AND they are often crap compared to others. You will end up throwing it away and buying online.

      I got mine from FoxOffer:

The following 2 produces extremely good pic quality in both low light and daylight, it almost rivals the Korean Powerucc Panorama II in terms of pic quality.

      currently using:
Shadow Tec Seezeus RX300 Car DVR with WDR support GPS logger - Got the GPS Logger, using this for front.
Non-brand RX300 Full HD 1080P Car DVR + WDR - Using this one for Rear.

So I got both 1080p front and back.
Don't get the dual camera systems, as they often do 1080p front and 720p back. They are also worse in terms of pic quality.

      • Ok, so which one would you recommend?

        • refresh your page, on the bottom of my post, I have edited with my current configuration in my car.

I hooked the 2 cameras up to a 2 port USB charger using extension cables. The 2 port usb charger plugs directly into a fuse tap into my fuse box. A fuse slot for ACC needs to be located, ACC fuse slots turn on the power when you turn on the car and when you start the car, but is off when you turn off the car.

        • If you live in a hot area and under the sun alot e.g. Queensland.
I would recommend getting the G1WC, it uses no batteries.
          http://www.foxoffer.com/g1wc-full-hd-1080p-vehicle-blackbox-…

The Pic quality isn't as good as the RX300 but it is still very good.

        • Did you do this on your own? How easy is it to wire both back and front cameras?

        • @delfredo:

I did it all myself but you will need some electronics knowledge. Doing it is one thing, doing it safely is another. Car batteries can be lethal.

Fuse tapping is the better option, don't do wire slicing, dangerous and causes irreversible damage to your car's cables.

        • I just finished hide the cable for my G1W-C very easy and plug it into the cigarette light plug.

        • @superforever: Its easy to do it if you want to use the cigarette light plug, but it usually doesn't look as nice, since you will have cables going here and there.

Where as if you use the fuse box and tap the power from there, you can 100% hide all the cables, and there won't be something sticking out of the ciggie slot 24/7.

Fuse Tapping gives the more pro-look, but obviously slightly harder than the ciggie slot solution.

        • @lplau:

I did the same like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwD8Ilk-MHU

Could not see the cable at all.

        • @superforever:

Yea, won't be able to see the wires too well. But yea, I'm just picky with seeing wires, you will still see the wires comming from the ciggy slot down the side of the middle pillar, but yea if you don't mind it then its a easier option to do.

Some people don't mind the wires as long as it doesn't get in the way or anything.

That video is a good tutorial though. +1

        • @lplau:

you will still see the wires comming from the ciggy slot down the side of the middle pillar

How can you do that without see that 3 inches cable?

        • @superforever:
Cannot do it if you use the ciggie slot, however some ciggie slots if you know how to remove trim, you can probably run it under the trim though, but that takes more time and skill.

Just going through the different ways you can do it.

          1. Ciggie Slot (see vid above) - Will most likely show some cables, but if done properly the cables won't get in the way of anything and should look fine.

          2. Fuse Tap into Fuse box - More Technical Knowledge Required, but if done properly you won't see any cables at all.

          3. Wire Splice - Not recommended unless you have professional knowledge of car electronics, very dangerous.

For my dual camera setup, I did a fuse tap instead.

Yeah I just did it this way easy for me.

It's crap and it's worth 1 AUD, very bad video quality and please don't buy it!

    • Agreed. Bought similar one in dinodirect for around $32. The picture quality is not good. Can't see a thing at night. May as well not to install.

  • Looks very similar to the one Kogan often discounts to $39
    http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/hd-dash-cam-video-recorder/

  • If we capture a car breaking road rules can we submit this to local enforcement authority? Can it stand as evidence?

    • Probably could stand as evidence.

In the UK cops are encouraging drivers to send in footage of bad drivers:
      http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/police-want-dashcam-dri…

However, using the Dashcam footage and GPS on the Dashcam will not be admissable in court against a speeding fine, as the speed checking device isn't Government Approved.
