Hi all,

this is my first post here, today i found Applecare deal on this website for only $149. i bought it and used it on my macbook pro 15 retina and it worked fine. I never saw Apple care on such a cheaper price. Original price is $389 and the most cheaper is $289 but luckly i found this deal. There are only 5 left be hurry and buy before price change or expiry of deal

      Depending on how they worded the AppleCare product.

      Does it say you are buying extra 2 yrs? or does it say you are gettnig a total of 3 years on the product purchased?

      From a quick look on their website it says "The AppleCare Protection Plan up to three years", therefore it implies that you get 3 years of warranty on the item. Under Consumer Laws and Apple (undercover and secret) policies you already get 2 years warranty. Therefore technically speaking you are only paying for an additional 1 year.

      Which you can easily get for free if you had a credit card which extends your warranty by 1 year. LOL!
      Most free credit cards have this feature, therefore I don't think this is really a bargain at all.

      Apple Australia actually supply support for two years, and for MacBooks in some cases for three years (I have experience in this).

      The AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac or Apple Display provides up to three years of expert telephone technical support and additional hardware service options from Apple.*

      *The AppleCare Protection Plan must be purchased within 12 months of the original purchase date of your Mac or Apple display, and provides up to three years of additional service options from the original purchase date of your Mac or Apple display. AppleCare Protection Plan benefits are in addition to rights provided by consumer law. For details, click here.

      They state "up to three years" because - If one applies the AppleCare just before one year has passed since purchase of your MacBook, you will get an additional two years of service/support.

      AppleCare is for Two Years. However if one activates it within 12 months of purchasing the hardware device (the MacBook) one gets a further two years of support. So it would be best to activate it around 11 and a half months after purchasing the MacBook.

      However, it is really an unnecessary expense UNLESS you are a frequent traveler who takes your MacBook on your travels.

        2- Applecare is not just an extended 2 years warranty (which in most cases is unnecessary as Apple needs to provide warranty for reasonable length of time) but also technical support. the technical support part I think actually is the big portion of the cost of buying it.

          Correct that it includes tech support. However, you can get this free support simply by booking a Genius Appointment at your local Apple Store. If you do not have an Apple Store nearby you can call Apple for support and I have never known them not to provide this support for free.

    Yeah, right. You 'found' an unnecessary (in Australia) AppleCare 'deal'. You wouldn't happen to be associated with that site in some way would you?

        Apple Australia will offer support for two years on hardware purchased in Australia. In the case of MacBooks they seem (perhaps not in all cases) to offer support up to three years. I have experienced support for several MacBooks that were over two years old.

        AppleCare is for two years. However, if applied/registered just before your device is one year old, you will get the additional two years of AppleCare.

          It is not at all confusing.

          AppleCare is for Two Years of support, starting on activation.

          Apple Australia's Warranty is for One Year. So if one activates AppleCare within one month of purchase one only receives 25 months of support in total. Obviously, it would be best to activate the AppleCare just before your device is one year old.

          However, except for frequent travelers, AppleCare is not really necessary in Australia any more. It used to be OK if one could get it cheaply - I used to buy it. Nowadays with Apple offering support for at least two years, and sometimes for up to three years, it is an unnecessary expense - even when discounted. UNLESS you are a traveler, as you could get support in the USA etc. for a MacBook that was over a year old.

          Your Shift and Caps Lock keys appear to be working, perhaps you should learn how and where to use them correctly?

        • lol, yeh keys are working but normally i used to write fast thats why i do not care about english writing rules unless its a document that need to be checked or presented. I know its irritating sorry about it, Thanks for making this clear but in my case i bought macbook pro retina on 1 September 2013 and today i activated AppleCare and now status shows me until 1 September 2016. I am sure AppleCare starts with purchase date (if its activated in first year)

          Correct, and I mentioned/included the Shift Key in my other comments. Also, if one's Shift Key was broken, the Caps Lock Key could be used instead. "normally i used to write fast" so I forgot to include it in that comment.

      Going to say this before somebody else comes and says it!
      Definitely needed as only Apple users are clueless enough not to fix their own problems. Since they are Apple they don't know how to use Google because it is not part of Apple.

          Lol, and that can be fixed by going to Tech Support? They MUST have awesome soldering skills and firmware flashing.

          It even says "future upgrades is impossible"… I guess the Geniuses at the Genius Bar are so smart that they can make the impossible possible.

          If its broken, then Tech Support wouldn't actually do anything, they would simply replace the logic board. This can also be done under Statutory warranty, therefore no actual need from Tech Support.

          Tech Support is more for "I have a issue with logging in, please help me unlock so I can get into my Mac".

          If it is broken, under LAW they HAVE to fix it, doesn't matter about Tech Support or not.

          You have to understand that Tech Support = You ask a question and they answer, it has nothing to do with hardware, it has everything to do with Software.

          Apple customers always get shafted by Apple. For some reason, even when Apple shafts you, people are still willing to buy their products.

          Read about Antennagate, when the iPhone 4 clearly had a design issue, they simply blamed the customer for not using their devices properly…. interesting that people just sucked it up and dealt with it.

          If it was Microsoft or any other manufacturer, they would have been blasted by the public from every side.

          You do not seem to understand.

          If your MacBook was purchased in Australia, all that is covered under Statutory Warranty because of Australia's consumer protection legislation.

          EDIT: My reason for negating this 'deal' is:-
          It is not a bargain as it is an unnecessary expense at any price for almost all Australian purchased MacBooks.

    Although that link is for ebay sellers, the same precautions need to be observed when purchasing from any unauthorised seller.

      I do not think they are unauthorised, eBay states "eShipping" like you only get serial number or code but in this case you will get both tax invoice and applecare box

        Yep, you are correct, I searched the apple website for authorised resellers in Altona and Standard Computers came up, so it seems that this is a legit product. Good find :)

      • i type these comment on my surface pro 2 so would work well lol, anyway, i got the keyboard at DickSmith, and they said it was out of 12 months, should i bring back to them again or just bring it straight to Apple store? I rang the techincal support from Apple and they also assisted about 12 months so she said I am just 'out of luck', now seems like i am not :)

          However, you are certainly entitled to a replacement or a refund from Dick Smith Electronics.

          If you just want a replacement keyboard in the quickest time and the easiest way (and you are not far from an Apple Store) I suggest you book an Apple Genius Appointment online or by phone on 1300-321-456.

    Extended warranties are a scam.

    • Yup. But this is more than most extended warranties. It gives you coverage with Apple worldwide. Handy for ex-pats and global wanderers. Also gives you access to phone technical support for any hardware or software issues. Much more than a simple extended warranty.

    Not sure why everyone's whinging, it's actually a great deal for those who want Applecare which is international coverage and not just Australia, it's also a full 3 years coverage instead of the statutory warranty which is 2 years minimum (in Australia only), thanks for posting

      Sort of correct. AppleCare adds two years of support to Apple's stated and written One Year Warranty. It will total three years IF ONE APPLIES THE APPLECARE NEAR THE END OF THE ONE YEAR WARRANTY. I used to do it just one day before my one year warranty was due to expire.

      In practice, in Australia, Apple offer support for many problems and/or hardware failures for up to three years. I have had motherboards replaced just under three years, and a heat shield replaced/installed, etc.

      • That's not true, you can apply it anytime in the first year and you'll get three years coverage from the date of purchase. I've done this numerous times, there's no need to wait till the end of the first year

        I also don't think it's right to neg a deal when the statutory warranty only covers a minimum 24 months, notwithstanding what you say about Apple's practices. This is a big discount off the product's normal price and $149 is well worth it for an extra years coverage in Australia as well as a global 3 year warranty. Applecare also makes it easier to sell your mac later (ie. buyers pay more/more comfortable buying from you). The street price of this item is $250-$350

          So? Just because it's a huge percentage off RRP doesn't make it a good deal.

  • Bathtub curve implies no deal here (theory is that items break down (a) immediately (1st curve down in the bathtub), everything works on the flat for years fine, or (b) dies on the bathtub up curve (longer than 3 years id say for a macbook). Hence this or any other extended warranty is a waste of money, cause they really only cover the flat bit where the item is unlikely to fail.

    And for a 3k macbook, I'd 'expect' 3+ years which the ACL covers under reasonable expectation provision.

    Just another example of Apple trying to extract more $ from the consumer.

    Good price though if you like paying for something you don't need and is essentially already part of your purchase.

    Hell it's even 50% or more off, buy it now iSheep!

  • Great price. Thanks. I bought one and just note that with shipping and credit card surcharge it comes to $165.24 all up.

    I had AppleCare on my previous MBP, and I can say with absolute certainty that it is definitely worth it. The mainboard died after 4 years, and they replaced it for me even though it was outside the 3 year AppleCare period. No way would they have done that if I didn't have AppleCare.

    Also, the international coverage makes it a no-brainer for me.
