Tempted but waiting to see a top 3 on the nuc i3 :)

  • +2

    I'll bite the i3 NUC @ $249, no worries/
Wish you would sharpen your pencil a little more, right now you're a little over Amazon's everyday price.

    • +6

For this EOFY period - with the $10 voucher, it should make our deals sharper. In addition, think of it this way:

      Besides low price,
      1. You received them quicker
      2. You are supporting ShoppingExpress

      Cheers

        • thank you! :)

      • +2

Make it $249 and I'll like you plenty.

        • +6

          You really are King Tightarse.

        • +9

You think I'm tight, you should meet my Scottish Jewish uncle. I'd introduce you but he's not back from his free lunch at the Harries.

      • +6

People just buy it from ShoppingExpress. I know Amazon might be cheaper but by how much? then factor in the GST and exchange rate plus the fact you are supporting a local retailer who really goes out of their way to provide great deals and most importantly great customer service.

        • ShoppingExpress is worth supporting, maybe $2 cheaper on Amazon, but not worth it.

      • +6

        4) Local warranty.

  • WHere do I vote? Have FB liked… cant see where to vote

      • +2

Yep no worries although when I did I got an error and a blocked content warning from Facebook, not sure why.

        • Try clearing the cache history, it worked for us.

          Cheers

    • I've liked the page but can't vote, get the following error from Facebook:

"You can't post this because it has a blocked link: The content you're trying to share includes a link that our security systems detected to be unsafe:Body of an error/warning message. Title is: You can't post this because it has a blocked linkPlease remove this link to continue."

      • hmm… getting tech team to have a look to see.

Only the "like" to vote button have this warning for you?

        Cheers

        • Trying to like the Facebook page gave a similar error too. I had to go to Facebook and like from there.

        • We are looking into this matter and will update once asap. Not sure how many people affected by this but hopefully not a lot.

          Cheers

        • Can report it here too..
Your page has been liked on FB but I can't like any items on that page.

Need to get the Nighthawk and NUC up!!

        • Hi guys,

We found a method that resolves this issue - clear everything on browser cache history (for the past 1 day works for us) and the issue will go away.
We are still checking to see if any other issues causing this, but right now clearing cache history works.

          Cheers
          SE

        • +1

Yes, clearing the last day's worth worked. Thanks.

Nuc is coming 6th ATM, so unless enough OZB NUC NUTS get on-board we won't be in for a podium finish :)

  • OK Rep I have the i3 NUC in my cart with both vouchers and shipping and it totals $318 which is a touch above what I want to pay.
Seriously I want to buy this but it just adds up to too much with the hard drive, RAM and WiFi too. Might as well just get a laptop once you add it all up.
Please make it cheaper if you can. If the total was a nice clean $300 I would bite any more and it just passes the threshold.
    C'mon Reppy!

    • +5

lol. I can see you claimed yourself as the "king" for a reason - however, i can't obey your command today KTA.

      Cheers

      • +3

OK, will wait but I reckon $300 is the magic number.
BTW Thanks for your quick responses in this thread.

  • +1

I was waiting for the NUC 2820 + 4gb ram to come in under $200 shipped. This did that. SOLD! Now I'll be able to hide my N54L in a corner somewhere and retire it from HTPC duties.

    • +1

thanks for your constant support man!

  • Hi Rep,

Does the Intel NUC Celeron N2820 2.5 SSD HDMI PC BOXDN2820FYKH0 unit have the N2820 CPU or the bug free N2830?

Intel said they were going to ship the new CPUs but keep the old part number and there could be a mix of stock still in the supply chain.

The SA number on the box indicates the CPU. For the older N2820 boxes: SA H22962-100, H22962-101, H22962-102. For the newer N2830 boxes: SA H22962-103 and later.

    • Hi Maverick-au,

Can't check it now as we have pretty good stock level of them atm. Personally, i believe is the N2820.

      Cheers
      SE

      • +1

Thanks but is there anyway to confirm? I'm willing to order one but not if it's a N2820 due to the issues that CPU has.

        • Sorry mate, can't confirm it for you - although i am quite certain Intel would not able to send out shipment of new CPUs to Australia that quick.
If you are concern with the USB 3.0 issues - the current good way is to consider buying a new SSD together & put your old SSD to good use.

          Cheers
          SE

    • I would like to know this too. Has the i3 this issue?

      • I believe the Celeron version was the only one that had issues. I am of the understanding these issues have been addressed in bios and driver updates.

    • The DN2820FYKH I just got is H22962-101.

  • The i3 specifies wireless antennae but not wifi specifically. Do the non-celeron nucs come with wifi card?

    • No they don't.

    • ONLY the Celeron model comes with WiFi card

  • Will the NUC celeron-n2820 play foxtel go without any issue on my bedroom TV?

  • +1

Ordered one, as always ShoppingExpress provide another good deal.

  • Does the i3 comes with IR sensor?

    • I believe all current NUC's have the IR sensor including the Celeron.

  • +2

Can the NUC celeron handle PLex transcoding anyone know?

    • Exactly what i want to know too.
I have tried using the inbuilt plex on my samsung and i get freezing every now and then.

    • Exactly what I wanted to know to, I'd rather buy the Celeron - But i might shell for the i3 if it struggles.

      • +4

go the i3 for high bitrate HD movies, intel quicksync HD4000 graphics will play anything with ease. i5 if you want madVR. I would avoid the old celeron, lots of people have issues with them and expect choppy play back for high bitrate 1080p and 3D movies.

        • Thank you. I will pass this one then

    • Would like to know this myself, about all 3 of them.

My Synology DS412+ is juust a bit underpowered with an Intel Atom and I demand solid transcoding capability :p

  • +1

Thanks - good price on the SSDs

  • by the way i keep getting an error when i like the deals. not sure why. something to do with chrome?

    • Nah, I'm getting it too and I'm on Safari.

    • Try clearing cache history, it works for us.

      Cheers

  • Rep, any chance orders placed this afternoon will be shipped today?

I literally went to buy the sandisk ultra on amazon a minute before checking ozbargain, quickly went to cancel and picked this one up.

Now I can get it on tuesday and I love eParcel on aus post over StarTrek tracking since eParcel emails me the progress.

Having some issues with facebook-liking but will check later to see if problem persists.

    • +1

Yep the StarTrek tracking is a little dodgy when the spaceship goes past Uranus.

  • is there a model that has a 3.5 drive bay?

    • no only 2.5"

  • Can these do dual displays?

    • +1

I believe the I3 and I5 models have both a mini hdmi and display port so should be capable of dual display.

  • Rep I placed my order at 1.20pm hope you can ship it today. I missed out the last NUC deal. didnt miss out this time :D

    • thanks mate! Will try our best to ship out today. :)

      Cheers
      SE

  • Rep is Aust Post, Couriers the same as startrack now that Au post bought StarTrack?

  • Rep - id also placed an order (13:36) you reckon it ship today? PM if you need my order#. TIA

    • Hi jok3r,

Most likely not, usually 13:30 is the latest and it could be slightly earlier, therefore i mentioned 13:00 to be safe.

      Cheers

  • Voted for the dream price of Netgear AC1900 but doubt that it would make it to top 3

  • Can the N2820 bitstream DTS HD, TrueHD and play MKV with high bitrates (10GB - 15GB)?
    What about 3D?

    • -1

I think this will do fine, my amazon fire tv, sideloaded xbmc, plays my big file movies like 10gb and up flawlessly. Plays DTS too, not sure about 3D and True HD though.

    • -1

No it will not, i3 and i5 will.

    • +1

Thanks for the confirmation. Might wait for the i3 to go down further. Anyway my N40L serves me well.

  • -1

Hi rep! Are your celerons come with the new N2830? Should have versions H22962-103 and later if you ask.

  • Please note that all these NUCs can't use the 2.5inch SSD! They can only use mSATA SSD!

Sorry, I just checked. It seems the latest box contain a 2.5inch bracket

    • The I3 and I5 come in both a slim version (MSATA only) and a slightly higher version which support both MSATA and 2.5" drives.

I believe the Celeron only comes in the higher version (2.5" SSD) and does not have the MSATA.

    • I think the one without the "H" at the end does not have the 2.5" tray.

      • Yup the H stands for the extra 2.5" tray. Anyone can guess what the H = H???

        • +1

I assumed H = HDD as it can fit a HDD in it while the others can't

  • crucial mx100 or sandisk ultra plus 256gb ssd?

  • Hey rep
Could you please have a look for a return authorisation I sent back 4weeks ago RAN16558

I sent it back using the reply paid address given to me and closed the paypal dispute as your support staff said it wasn't needed.

    Thanks

    • Hi gummibear,

Not sure we have issued RA# starting with RAN16558 before. can you PM me your ticket id and order id (starting N00xxxxxx) so i can check for you?

      Cheers

  • @ Rep, any possibility of doing a sale on the Xperia Z Tablet?

    • We should have Sony related promotion coming out, so keep close look on our newsletter deals, especially during this month.

      cheers
      SE

      • Just ordered a Z2 tablet, so no need to make any sales for me. :P

  • Does this require any additional cables such as power or HDMI?

    • -1

      HDMI: no

It comes with a power brick, I believe you still need to supply 3 pin power cable that goes between the wall socket and the power brick. They cost a few dollars if you don't already have one.

      • Same power cable used on a standard PC power supply?

        • I think it's a C7 aka figure-eight.

        • No, it's the clover style that is required.

      • +1

the 2820 comes with all power cables needed, but no hdmi cable. (an older edition of celeron NUC was missing the power cable and it needed to be bought separately).

the 2820 is also full-sized HDMI out.

    • You will need a HDMI cable.

      • +2

You'll actually need a mini-hdmi to hdmi cable, or mini-DP to DP cable. This caught me out when building one and took a few days before we could power it up

        • unless you get the 2820. it's standard hdmi.

  • +2

Cheers, just grabbed the i5 NUC. Can't wait to setup XBMC + Steam In-Home Streaming on this little badboy.

    • +1

you could probably get away with the i3 for that, isnt it?

      • Most likely, but I like nice things and didn't want to regret it later. Peace of mind with the i5, plus it should perform better with emulators and whatnot.

  • If I want to run a n64 emulator and stream some movies (nothing particularly high quality), would the celeron suffice?

    • +1

      yes
