Last firmware update was in 2007.

Yes and it's not recommended to update to that one. The default (2005) firmware on it is fine.

These are ex german ww2 devices or at least of the same era

If I'm after a setup where an ethernet socket similar to this one is installed onto my wall and allows for 1 connection to be split into multiple (say, 3-4), is there any difference between me purchasing the one OP recommended or a generic switch like this one at officeworks?

      get a switch..

Does anybody have a good deal on a 2400 bps modem ???

My 300 bps Hayes is on it's last legs and has been out of warranty for a while now…

    • Do they have decouplers for iPhones ?

Dude… just recycle those old unwanted technology. Its 2014 now!!! not 2005!

  • I had one of these routers, very tough and reliable. Was lighteninged once, my modem fried, but this one only two port damaged. Still managed to use the remaining three ports as a switch. Will still buy it if it is only $9, but for $29 better just buy the WD one always on special at MSY.

    • which WD one?

  • This looks to me, looks like an over-glorified switch with possibly a DHCP server on it. Would be nice if you wanted to make sure all you're devices in one room were using a different DNS? That is if they didn't support static IP such as ROKU, etc.

That aside who can complain at $29?

    • I get the impression that this entire bargain is a joke, but I'm not in on the punchline…

Everyone who got paid by Dlink to take their Gigbit LAN, Dual Channel ac WiFi can make a fair argument as can anyone who have bought any WiFi router from the myriad of deals less than $30..

  • I think it is marketing genius to rebrand a non-wifi router as a "gaming router". Still doesn't make me want one though.
