Its up there with the best mirrorless and this also comes with a great lens, equivalent to 24-80 f2.8
@saaron
In many ways it's better than most DSLRs that are less than full frame and quite a lot smaller. But I wouldn't recommend this for a noob because you will definitely be overwhelmed by the menu system. Best to start with a camera that has simpler set up. It'll save you money for future purchase when your skills have improved too.
It is using mirrorless technology that can achieve SLR performance and results. They have definately come along way in the past 12 months especially in low light. This and the Fuji XE-1 are quite decent, Panasonic has an offering as well that is quite decent too, but I think the Fuji offerings are still best of the current crop.
Ted's Club members (not sure if they check but membership is free if you have bought something) can get an additional $200 off by using the code SAVE200. This also works on the OM-D Elite 12-40 mm Kit.
If you are after a 12-50mm kit you can get $150 off on either E-M1 or E-M5 variants using code SAVE150.
I bought the OM-D E-M5 Elite Pro 12-40mm lens kit yesterday which came down to $1299, so after $200 cashback will be $1,099. I already have an E-M5 but I figure I can sell it and overall it will cost me less than the best price I could pay for the lens alone PLUS I get the same camera with a new warranty. Pretty good considering I wanted to buy this lens anyway.
edit: These codes expire 15 June.
http://www.teds.com.au/olympus-om-d-em-5-12-40mm ; back to $1500?
It is $1499 on that page. Now follow these simple steps:
1. Click on add to cart and go into your cart.
2. Enter "SAVE200" into Coupon Code - for some strange reason this brings it down to $1317.18 or similar.
3. Click proceed to checkout - this brings it down to $1,299 plus shipping.
4. Change to in-store pick-up if you want bringing it down to $1,299.
5. Claim your Olympus Cashback of $200 bringing it down to $1,099.
6. Enjoy your new camera and lens.
7. Blow the savings on some needless camera accessories.
This comes in at about $45 cheaper:
I'd rather pay the $45 and get from Teds with genuine warranty and support..
Am I missing something; this comes to $1590, and that comes to $1743?
use SAVE200 coupon at checkout, it will come down to $1899. Get $300 cashback from Olympus. Final price will be $1600
Thx, have revised
Has anyone received their cashbacks for this promotion yet? I submitted mine about 1 month ago - still nothing.
Anyone got any experience with the M1 or M5? I hear a ton of fantastic reviews, but found a small thread where people say anything over 600iso gives terrible noise, ruling out astrophotography and star timelapses, any one know for sure?
Thanks
Many of these forum users failed to meter for the correct exposure and start blaming their camera for poor high ISO performance when they tried to pull out too much shadow detail from badly under exposed areas. To get an idea what the E-M1 is capable of at high ISO levels, check out this blog by an Olympus employee:

Some of his ultra high ISO shots using the E-M1 are stunning. I want that 75mm f1.8 prime.
I don't know if the E-M1 is suitable for astro or star trail timelapse shots as I have not tried them before but it has this amazingly cool feature in live-bulb/live-time that lets you view the picture on the screen during exposure; no more repeated trial and error and hoping that the battery is going to last.
Just wondering what makes this camera so expensive. This isn't a DSLR.
Photography noob here.
