Unless you meant the metcard expires from when you validate depending on what you purchase.Actually I meant neither, but I wasn't being particularly clear! I wondered if they expired with no use (ie: could I buy my years supply of 2 hourlys.)
from my experience you can, but i think because of the changeover in train operator and/or the introduction of 'Myki', the whole ticketing system may change..
Thanks mate. Good deal!!
Metcards will be replaced by mykey cards in the future, so I wouldn't stock up on too many!
I'm sure you can get full refund of any unused tickets when the time comes.
Myki and Metcards will most likely run simultaneously when Myki is launched. From that date though Metcards will not be sold so it will eventually be phased out.
I bought a few hundred worth before the price rise and no problems yet. As far as I can tell, there's no expiry on unused tickets.
the mentality to buy heaps of stuff before the price rise is what trigger inflation. more demand causes the price to rise.
True for certain items, but not in the case of metcards. The price was going to increase regardless… :)
Good find. Might get 3 months worth of ticket.
never ever saw discount from metlink.
Myki officially kicks in on 1st Dec 2009.
However, i see no harm in purchasing these as i suspect that you could exchange them for the new Myki cards.FYI, If you have a Vline Ticket, you get unlimited free travel across Zone 1 & 2. I know people that buy a weekly ticket from Lara to North Melbourne and just use to get around cheaper…Tricks of the trade!
I think they are trying to introduce the online system so people may get use to online purchase. Then they reduce staffs who works in train station counter. Economic downturn.
Does anyone know if there's an expiry date?
