You can currently download Dark Souls on the Xbox Live Marketplace for free without a Gold Membership. I just tested it out on my 360 and had no issues, although the web version wanted me to add a credit card (or "valid payment option"), so I would recommend buying through the console.

Not sure how long this will last, but get on it ASAP before it's changed.

    Not sure… but like I said, it didn't prompt me for it by going through the Xbox 360, so try that if you get the chance

      Late but yeah, I just added a CC and removed it after the "purchase".

        Microsoft is quite nasty to remove the CC or paypal details or auto renewals.
        Best bet is to try direct from xbox console where you don't require the details.

    I had this same error the first time I tried on the console. Second time went through with no issues. Hopefully you can get it linked to your account before its updated.

  For those making the reports, please note that this is a bypass for Dark Souls I which allows non-gold members to grab the game for free. It is not a duplicate of this.

      Once you download these games to your account do you own them forever ala Steam?
      I only have a 120GB HDD and it fills up very quickly so I would not be able to store too many games on it.

  Tried it now and it did not work. So might be a glitch in Microsoft portal.
  Glad it worked for few users.
