  • Make sure if you have induction cook-tops you are very careful check that these will work. The frypans for instance, the website does not indicate their compatibility however checks from other sites show that these will NOT work with induction.

    • +1

A few Scanpan lines are compatible with induction cooktops — CTX, CSX, Induction+, IQ, Impact, Coppernox. The Scanpan Classic cookware on sale here isn't compatible, though.

The prices here (with code) are OK — but House's discount percentage is heavily exaggerated.

  • any recommendations?

i'm just about to move out and don't have any pots & pans yet

    • +9

i would suggest for those just moving out to get one of those 'entire set' of pots/pans/etc from ikea. Use that until you've figured out what works for you and then start on the expensive stuff.

        ^ this

        • +1

Another reason might be if you go into a share house, other people will never take as good a care of good cookware as you will and inevitably wreck it.

        • Sounds like an unhappy man speaking from experience (and I totally agree with you).

    • +1

Start with 1 good 27cm pan and large pot and you'll master it sooner than later.
By cheap and you'll hate (and your GF/BF) the food you put out.
Plus in years to come you'll still have your first pan and pot!

      • thanks

large pot = dutch oven or the sauce pots?

        • Probably a saucepan with a good, solid base (no teflon)

        • Saucepan
As spillmill said no teflon (no nonstick)

        • what is wrong with the teflon/nonstick?

        • Its gonna scrape and scratch and get ito your food..
With saucepans it sweats your food because if high sides so no need for nonstick!
Plus you can boil in it eg noodles, mash, soup etc
Generally you spend longer due to mass, cooking in a pot (saucepan) so the more stiring you do the more you'll f@ck the teflon coat over time.
I speak from experience from 8 years as a chef.
Stear clear of non stick, its not needed in pots.

With pans it handy for cheeses and eggs and sugars for nonstick but that said, any good thicker based pan (scanpan classic nonstick range) if you heat to a high (scorching temp)
Then last second add oil and immediately egg/cheese/ meats etc then they will glide like a nonstick anyway.

*High heat, not warmed oil, food fast = nonstick
*Low heat, warmed oil, good for onions garlic etc to add more to as you go along, (which as you add will pull up what sticks a bit)

        • Teflon products are never meant to be used in high heat for sugars and stuff to begin with, which meant they are poor products to use for certain cooking.

You can't put a hot teflon pan in cold water either. and.. burning cheese and sugars is sure fire way to f@ck up your brand new Teflon nonstick pan.

Not a big fan of teflon, but it has its uses if you keep to it's specifications… i favor cast iron and carbon steel more - these things don't have to advertise that they are free of poisonous synthetics used in the 'nonstick' ability.

        • Yeah stay away from Teflon… People i know that use it say things dont stick and it's easier to clean, which i think is nonsense because with a steel pan without the coating you can hit it with steel wool after cooking which gets rid of any hard to clean stuff, then just wipe it down.

My housemate refuses to use anything without the coating because he claims he cant cook an egg without it sticking to the pan. Such a novice…

        • to be fair, i use non stick for eggs just because i just want 1 egg for breakfast and doing it with a steel pan is seriously too much oil/work/effort. :)

        • Fail safe for eggs in a steel pan is;
Heat up a Super Hot pan no oil,
Then add oil, then egg immediately before oil had time to heat.
          It will NOT stick.!!
Like a super hot pan with water on it takes ages to evaporate because the water molecules bounce on the surface, but a hot to warm pan will vibrate the water so it will boil.
          Its the same for oil..
So your egg layers on top of the "bouncing" oil.

    • any recommendations?

non-stick: woll and skk are best - avoid scanpan non-stick except ctx

      copper / stainless steel:
esteele is good and should be compare to similar others such as baccarat copperbond, scanpan fusion 5/copper/csx, all-clad, de buyer, mauviel – note that unlike the others, esteele and baccarat don't have the same base material up the sides for consistent heating

  • thanks OP, ordered a few items… i find the scanpan classic items to be very long lasting and love the ones we already own

  • guys what is the warranty ? and is scanpan lifetime gaurantee?

    • I rang and asked, 10 year warranty.

      • don't bother with warranties. nowadays warranties for pots/pans (especially the nonstick ones) are not worth the ink they are printed on.

i got ikea's 356's pans as well, and it has 25 years. when i brought it back after 3 years, they wanted shit like receipts and the credit card number i used at that time. seriously wtf.

if you are worried about warranty on a nonstick, go with a stainless steel / copper pan and learn how to cook the hardworking way ;)

  • I guess so. Already bought them now and were delivered within in 1 Day.
