"Ultrasharp" in name only. Terrible colour depth (gamut) on these entry level models - 84% on the 23", which is very ordinary. Ideally you want a monitor with 90%+ gamut.

FYI, the best monitor around, the HP Dreamcolor (which I have), has a gamut of 130%, so that gives you an idea of how crappy the entry Ultrasharps are by comparison.

FYI, you're comparing Apples to Oranges! Your $1000+ HP should not be compared to a $299 Dell.

For the average home user the price, and quality of the entry level Dell's are fine.

        • I'm only comparing the two so that one can get an idea of the huge drop in colour depth on these monitors. You don't have to spend anywhere near $1000 to get good 90%+ colour depth. These Dells would make suitable office monitors, home business, student, etc. but for anything else, I'd give it a miss. Of course, plenty of people are going to say these are great monitors - these people have likely never experienced anything better (most people haven't).

  • How does the 27" Full HD Acer monitor currently on Catch of the Day compare to these Dells?

    • If you mean this; http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/product/acer-27-full-hd-wide…
      •Horizontal Viewing Angle: 170°
      •Vertical Viewing Angle: 160°

      Note; Special order - *** Dispatch between 31/05 - 14/06 ***

The Acer is a TN panel screen, so no comparison between the two. The IPS panels in the Dell's will give a much more vibrant colour output, with better viewing angles.

If you're purely interested in gaming, then TN panels will suffice..

    • The Dell is an IPS monitor so should have better viewing angles along with more inputs (VGA, 2x HDMI MHL, 1x DisplayPort, USB3.0 ports, audio combo jack). The Dell also has a webcam and speakers built in.

Dell has some balls to call an 80 dpi monitor "ultrasharp"!!
