Note the panels and inverter are um, less reputable brands. They might go the distance, they might not. I would budget to replace the inverter at least over the life of the system. But at about $1 watt installed it is still a very inexpensive system.
Looks like you will have some additional cost for a meter upgrade - rep want to confirm?
One other consideration is the warranty. If something goes wrong in 4yrs, will the installer still be around etc. Not suggesting any funny business, but at this price point it isn't a very lucrative business.

    • also is it a full warranty of a "pro rata warranty".
In other words, if the inverter fails in 4 years, do they pay 100% of the cost or 20% of the cost to fix?
and who pays the labour to fix.

      • Hi deal88,

If for example you inverter breaks down after 4 years, you will get the inverter replaced at no extra cost as the technician will be from manufacturing company.

    • Hi mskeggs,

Yes the cost of meter upgrade/ meter configuration will be with the distributor in your area and no solar company can control that. It doesn't matter how much you pay for the solar system, distributor company will charge their bits for the meter configuration because they own the meters.

And, yes in worst case scenario if the business in no longer around that will not impact on your warranty as this is manufacturer's warranty. In case of warranty claims what all we have to do is lodge a service issues with them and the technicain from manufacturer will come and resolve the issue.

      • So if the manufacturer is not around or becomes insolvent then who is underwriting their warranty? As an example Renesolar has an insurance based 25 year warranty on their Panels.

if you've got a flat roof, you might want to ask how much extra that is.

unless you're at home during the day running aircond, 5kw is over kill,
you only get 8c feedin in vic, you'll be converted to a time of use tarrif which is about 35c peek & 15c off.
So you're better off getting a system which covers your day time use as you're getting scammed on feed in tarrifs.
(they pay you 8c & sell it to your neighbour for 25c)

  • Sorry to hijack but my parents are looking at solar also and live in Sydney. Any reputable good priced companies to enquire with?

Having just gone through the process of obtaining quotes for solar here is some advice:

    • Do not do business with any company asking for money up front.
    • Do not do business that use sales tactics relating to the removal of STC's or government rebates as this is BS and has not been confirmed.
    • Do your research - check forums and check for lots of reviews from people who have purchased solar: http://www.solarquotes.com.au/installers/reviews/

The solar system on offer by the OP is built to a price so expect fairly low end equipment. (You need to realize that 25 year warranties are useless if the company does not exist so stick with reputable companies)

The claim that "Get this 5 KW solar system installed and say good bye to electricity bills" is complete rubbish and does not cover all peoples lifestyles or when they use power. Once the Sun goes down you pay for power from the grid.

  • Is Pluto included or not?

  • Why can't there be a similar deal in Brisbane, Qld! If there was, I would pay the lump sum.

  • What battery storage systems are available and how much do they cost?

    • If you are grid connected residential, they do not appear to be a viable option yet.

      But watch this space…

    • Positronic in Brisbane is developing an integrated battery storage system. Check their website.

    • Dear fishandchips,

Yes this deal was posted by a sole trader however your system will be installed by our installation company which has been in the solar business for over 5 years.

Be very careful, there have been (and probably still are ) many shonky Solar deals from shonky installers around in all states. The advice to check on the Whirlpool Green Tech forum is good advice. $5000 + is a lot of money.

  • Recently just had mine installed. What a nightmare of a journey it was. My advice, make sure you take your time and do research, read up all about what y need to know before committing. This was my account

  • Hi all,

The low price doesn't mean here that we will be using the low quality products and it is because we are not paying the huge sales commissions here.

The brand of panels and inverters have already been specified in the deal so there is no way of using any other products. These brands have been used in thousands and thousands of houses across Australia.

Please feel free to get quotations from other companies using Simax panels and JFY Inverter and yo will see the difference. Moreover our installation company has it's own employees and doesn't use contractors which also allows them to maintain the quality of work undertaken.

    • As I said earlier built to a price.

      • Which may be fine if you are moving house in a few years, or are happy to take the risk. It is a substantial discount to bigger brand offerings.
