AGAIN: Mods do not delete my account, just delete my post…

  • I have only heard positive things about Crissic. Haven't used them myself but heard good things.

    Thanks for posting!

For those looking for a direct link to the order form for the $15/yr VPS you can find it HERE: https://my.crissic.net/cart.php?a=add&pid=5

  • Is there a catch here, or have I just not spent enough time looking at VPSs? Last time I had a quick look it was a lot more expensive than that for a VPS.

The low end VPS market has changed fairly dramatically (pricing wise) over the last couple of years. Check out http://lowendbox.com to see the kind of pricing offered these days.

The catch is you have to put your first born child down as collateral. Kidding. No there's no catch :)

    • There is a huge difference between barebones VPS (this product) and a reseller/cPanel VPS (the more expensive products you've seen).

The catch is its OpenVZ, so container virtualization instead of full virtualization. It is much easier for hosts to oversell OpenVZ containers than say KVM or Xen hosting.

I run a copule vps's which run monitoring/scraping scripts 24/7 which use relatively constant/high amounts of ram/cpu. They will run fine for months on a 512mb ram KVM vps, but hosts running OpenVZ will kick us off for high utilization, even when using a 2gb ram (guaranteed) OpenVZ vps.

Id stay away from OpenVZ. From my experience they are very inconsistent performance-wise as it depends on what other people on the node are doing.

      A good write up: http://vpsdatabase.com/knowledgebase.php?action=displayartic…

My advice would be look on http://lowendtalk.com/categories/offers and find a xen or kvm vps with a host that has been running for 3+ years and has good reviews.

We also have our own little comparison page :)
        https://crissic.net/kvm_vs_openvz

Our transparency page also elaborates as far as our Overselling practices with OpenVZ: https://crissic.net/transparency

      • This is of course assuming you're going to be using high CPU/RAM applications.. I'm running multiple websites from a 128MB OpenVZ system without any issues.

  • vps reseller pricing?
standard vps does it come with cpanel?

    • Our VPS reseller page has listed at 15%. We're still waiting a bit on a module fix to roll out the reseller release. cPanel is $12/m extra.

      • $12 month on both regular and reseller?

        • +1

cPanel licenses are sold at cost + merchant transactional fees as a value-added service, not as profit add-on. The 15% VPS RESELLER discount does NOT apply to licenses (directadmin, cpanel), domains, SSL certificates, it only applies to the actual VPS ordered (KVM & OpenVZ)

        • Welcome to ozBargain Skylar some people on here want things for 0.000002 cents when it might cost 0.20 cents….he he he

  • so the $15 a year deal which is being offered doesnt include cpanel?

    • It does not.

    • +2

You wouldn't want to run cPanel on a VPS with 256MB memory either.

Can't argue with the price…it is dirt cheap. But the reviews on web hosting talk worry me. They say you have abandoned your customers and company several times in the past. It seems you are trying to redeem yourself which is great and I wish you the best in achieving… BUT I personally wouldn't use your service for anything other than a sandbox.

We do have a past history, however we also aren't pulling what everyone else does by changing names/hiding behind false identities/lying. We have a transparency policy, and we stick by it.

We currently have 2 cabs in our Jacksonville datacenter, with about $80,000 USD in owned equipment, owned routing, a direct Atrato 10G commit, etc. We've been in business for a year now under what I'd call the "proper" business model, and our clients are all satisfied and happy.

We're very much so stable and not going anywhere :) I don't shy away from past mistakes. I made mistakes. Wasn't "several times", but pretty major mistakes nonetheless 6 or so years ago.

      • Fair enough. I hope it works out for you and you keep up the good work, everybody makes mistakes.

  • ooo tempting. Wondering what extra I could do with this if I run a small homeserver already.

    • +1

I run varnish on a 128mb openvz and use that as a front end for web servers I run at home. Works great.

  • Just signed up yesterday, easy and fast setup. For $15 per year this is really very good deal.

Just one note, the root password although allowed to be changed from web login, but does not work. Need to change it when ssh in.
