Got mine for $9.95 on Catch of the Day and that was paying too much.

The electronic question presenter is dodgy and a bit buggy, and I guess that's why they're dumping these left right and centre.

  • I got mine from COTD too though no dramas with my unit. Google reveals reason these units are being offloaded is because Hasbro has discontinued support for this product due to them continually releasing newer editions of trivial pursuit, but not a drama though since there are 1800 questions available online in addition to the 600 already on the unit.

itsross, why not send back to COTD to swap your unit, should still be under warranty? my gripe with the unit was that you have to drill down to specific categories for questions rather than specifying a broad topic area, but that's just a personal thing. works and plays great.

    • It'd cost more to send it back than it's worth.

My unit turns itself off randomly/crashes/goes into a loop replaying the intro animation…all sorts of good stuff.

Hasbro is hardly going to come out and say these have a high fault rate, but the number of units they're selling dirty cheap just about everywhere is a little odd.

      • Are you sure its not the batteries your using? I used some cheap batteries and the intro would play in a loop also, although the screen was abit faded which was indicative of a shite battery.

        • ditto, my unit had crapped out looping with some old batteries which i nicked from various remotes but works fine with a fresh set.. chuck some new batteries in there..

          • @ccrap: they were rechargeables that had just been charged, but i'll try some new ones.

            • @[Deactivated]: well there you have it. point 7 on page 3 of the instruction manual in caps "7. DO NOT USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES".

now personally, this hasn't stopped me in the past from still using rechargeables anyway, but I stopped doing so after this incident:

went down to paddies one day and bought one of those mass produced cheapie $5 r/c helicopters for my nephew. he noticed that after about 2-3 gos, the rechargeable batteries would discharge almost completely and the heli couldn't be controlled - took it back to the seller who immediately replaced the rechargeables and 6 gos later the heli was still running sweet - sure enough the chinglish manual did say do not use rechargeable batteries.

apparently rechareable batteries aren't so great with devices that have complex circuitry and/or devices that constantly vary the power it draws from the batteries. however i stand to be corrected by any qualified fellow ozbargainers for I am not an electrician. This link seems logical enough http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071121104040AA…

anyway let us now if it was the rechargeables… i'm all intrigued now…

              • @ccrap: Thanks for reading the manual for me ;)

I'll give it a go and get back to you.

Plus I'll vote the deal a positive for your effort :)

  • I picked this up in perth.

I just connected the unit..all the region specific questions that you can d/l are all based around NZ.
