You know it's a serious camera when they measure it in kilopixels.

    • +2

300K is your standard VGA which is what you get on most lower end phones and tablets for the front camera. Most specs normally state them as VGA which sounds a lot more impressive than 300kilopixels.

        you missed it

        • +6

          so missed it

        You should have LOL mate

    • It's the ver of Android, that I want to know (Roman numerals OK)

      • I think it's 4.2.2, I saw it at TGG the other day.

      • iiii.ii.ii
        roman numeral

        • +3

          Actually iv.ii.ii

        • +1

Actually the Romans used IIII to represent the number 4 but later the symbol IV was used so that it would comply with the general rules, which stated that no symbols should be repeated more than three times. ;-)

        • +7

General Rules was one of the greatest generals in Roman history

        • +2

          Greater than General Pants?

  • Just in time!
    Bought 1, thanks OP

cheapest brand name quad core 10 incher?

  • Storage: 32 GB ROM

    ???

    • What's wrong with that? You got micro sd expansion if you ever want to store your own stuff….

      • +5

        Good luck writing to ROM!

  • Is this another deal funded by eBay or PayPal, so we get price-inflated tax invoices from TGG?

  • +2

Does anyone have a 10" tablet with the same screen resolution? How is it for browsing/reading?
I am a bit disappointed with the resolution but very tempted by the price.

    • +2

You have experience with nexus 7 2013 and other smaller than 10" tablets with the same resolutions then you will be disappointed by this screen.

    • +1

I have an Asus TF101 with the same resolution and it a bit dissapointing specially when I am reading magazines. Maybe enough for 7 inch tablets but not for 10 inches.

    • +1

I have a galaxy tab 2 which has much the same specs except for 1ghz dual core. Screen is ok for me but the galaxy tab cpu is under powered, it's way too clunky reading pdfs. This should be much faster and give a better browsing/reading experience.

    • +2

I think it's the same resolution as ipad v1. I find it perfectly fine.

  • The biggest deal breaker is the 1GB RAM.

  • +5

I just picked one up at TGG Mt Gravatt, QLD, it came with a free genuine case not bad for $199.

    • Ordered one for pick-up in NSW :)
Did the case come in the package or was it offered by staff or did you have to haggle for it??

      • +1

No case in the box. It came in some sort of protective plastic bag.

        • Yep, jeffo-8 must have been highly persuasive :o)

        • +2

But he said it came with it, implying that he didn't have to persuade!

  • Don't forget about the $50 off $250 from Amex:

This is probably the best sub $200 10" tab you'll find at present. If the screen resolution is a problem, or you want something with faster hardware then I suggest looking elsewhere or keeping your eyes peeled for a better deal. Been better tabs in past deals for similar price. I personally would pay extra and get something like LG G Pad 8.3, bit extra, but I'm sure worth the extra $$.

  • Can the full USB port be used with a USB 3G modem?

    • +2

I just received this today and it does not have a full USB port. There is only the microusb slot and microsd slot and hdmi out and strangely enough even a sim card slot??? I thought this tablet was a wifi only model.Maybe the sim card slot is non functional.I will test when i have the time.

      • Wow…if the sim card slot is built into the hardware then the software should recognise it. I've never heard of a manufacturer include a 'non-functional' sim slot into a wi-fi only device.

Looks like you've just scored yourself a solid 10.1" 3G tablet for under $200, but please report back once you've had time to test.

I also bought one yesterday but won't be able to pick it up until later this week. The lack of a full-size USB is a potential deal breaker but a working sim slot would be a definite game changer!

        • Well i was grinning from ear to ear at my luck as i seemed to have got a 3G model. But the luck did not last as the tablet refused to power on after the 4 hour charging as recommended in the booklet i received with it.Right now it has been charging for 6 hours straight and still refused to power on.It vibrates when i hold the power button but the screen stays dark Sigh!!! just my luck in getting a dud one. DOA.I will have go and return it to the local Good Guys store which processed my online order. And i doubt the replacement will be a 3G model. But i did not intend to use the 3G functionality anyway.

        • Doh!! Sorry to hear that.
I'd love to have the 3G version though. Would even gladly pay $50 extra for it.

      • No SIM card slot on mine.
Going from the top: power button, micro USB, headphones, micro SD, HDMI, hole???, speaker.

        • Thanks for the info. As expected I guess.

Just for everyone….. i got this tab today … it has OTG support ;)

    • Android tablets have had OTG support for some time.

However, I expected this model to have a full-size USB port as my older (but higher-end at the time) Acer A700 has one. But then again, the A700 also has an FHD screen, which the A3 doesn't have.

Having a proper USB port would make it easy to plug in the 3G modem straight in. Having to use an OTG cable means diminished portability and kind of getting to a point of defeating the purpose of having a tablet.

      • That's a bit harsh. Having a usb dongle plugged into a usb socket for hours on end is not ideal in my opinion as well, although even on a laptop I find this cluncky as you can easily knock it and damage. I actually find things plugged into a short female usb cable ( similar to a OTG cable ) better and safer to use, and would only add a few grams of weight for portability.

  • The good guys in WA stated no free case :(

  • Never mind

  • +1

OK, any recommended eBay (or similar) cases or is it worth getting a genuine case (currently on special) at a somewhat pricey $34 shipped from Acer?

  • +4

This one will do the job for $10 delivered.

    • Ordered! Thank you elektron :)

    • Ordered as well. Thank you!!!

  • Okay, I ended up jumping for this one as I really only need it for a bit of 'net access, email, & to hopefully help me keep my client jobs up-to-date.

Questions I have (for those here who are up on it) are:

What is the largest supported microSD? I am finding conflicting reports & my own box & innards don't specify?

If I were to choose a better, 3rd party firmware- what or which would you suggest & why?

    Cheers!
