The games library range for the PS4 is nowhere near as mature as as the PS3's just yet, obviously. That's the reason I'm going for a PS3.

It's perfectly reasonable for people to still be buying a PS3. The PS4 has very few games released compared to the PS3 library, plus the price difference in games ($20 vs. $75 per game). Also since PS+ subscriptions give you PS3 games too, may as well have a console to use them on (this applies even if you have a PS4).

I recommend people get a second hand Ps3 instead of a new one.
Also tlou is coming to ps4 so I'd hold off on that.
Agree with this. Got a second hand PS3 around 2 months ago. Forgot exactly how much we paid was like $250-300 but came with 17 games including GTA V. Lot cheaper to buy off gumtree or equivalent.
Unfortunately, not everyone can afford the latest and greatest OR have a budget. Great deal for people who are looking to upgrade from an old one.
If you were really this hard-up, you'd go buy a second-hand PS3 for ~$100 off gumtree, not nearly $400 on an outdated console.

I agree. I brought a new 160gb before last xmas to put away for $148 through big w. PS3s are way over inflated in price at the moment its better to just buy a PS4 if you can justify over $350.
It's hard to see the bargain here, as you say, sub-$200 prices were common for the PS3 12 months ago, paid about $170-180 for my 160gb unit at Target in May last year. From memory at the time I'd just missed out on the ~$199 deals for the 500gb that had been posted here. (eg: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/100649)
Yeah seems expensive to me too. I got the PS3 Slim when it first came out for $440. Five years later I'd expect more than $80 off the price and games newer than the three or four year old titles being offered here.
Each to their own, but if you have to buy new today the XBox 360 seems like better value otherwise I'd take the gamble and pay more for a PS4. Sure, the game library is nowhere near as mature but games are and will continue to come out for it and it won't be long before most people have plenty of options. That or second hand seems a very viable option.
Would be great if they did a PS3 exclusives bundle. A PS3 12GB so you can upgrade yourself bundled with a few exclusive PS3 games so those with an XBox 360 can finally play the games they've been drooling over. The Last of Us, Uncharted series and maybe LBP 2.

Alright deal I suppose but why wouldn't you just get a PS4 for $100-150 more? The PS3 is nearly 7 and a half years of old technology.
For $40 extra you could get the same console and 4 more current games (GT6, BF4, FIFA14, Last of Us) and then just buy an extra controller.
