Sunbeam Coffee Grinder EM0480 $69 (+$10 Delivery) @ Harris Scarfe

800

Long time lurker, first time poster. Excellent coffee grinder at a sweet price, the cheapest I can find this at the moment is TGG for $169. This is even cheaper than previous BigW specials. I'm not certain if this is an online deal only but I would definitely try your luck in-store.

Enjoy!

EDIT: Called the Box Hill store and it is scanning @ $69 there. Looks like it's STILL AVAILABLE in-store!

  • I agree this is a really good price. I have the lower model.

    Time to upgrade….

  • +2

Great post but only 7 left so anybody that wants one needs to be quick!

    • +2

Only 5 left now… typical, first deal and it looks like it will sell out in 5 minutes. Oh well, I got mine ;-)

  • +2

bargain, and a great, proper grinder.

  • Arrgh!! I've bought 4 for my self and other people when they were $100. Can't justify another and by the time I think of someone that would like one it'll be gone.

  • +3

I can definitely reccommend this. Whilst my Delonghi EC0310 machine doesnt quite cut it for me, this grinder is FANTASTIC. really good consistency at each grind setting. I've even managed to make my own turkish coffee on the lowest setting with a turkish roast blend.

Also, i'm sure some are worried about whether it will last - I've had mine for a year and a half, having cleaned the inside burrs twice in that time, and i've no issues and seen no signs of the burrs getting blunt. Was a steal for me at $110 when I bought it, and its robbery at $69 IMO.

  • +2

GONE! Pricing mistake maybe? (69 instead of 169)

  • +1

Just called the Box Hill store and I can confirm it's scanning at $69 there.

  • ^^ grab it in store you home barista aficionados!

  • missed it :(

  • +1

Any chance to get it in store?

Oh no why am I asking, I don't even drink any coffee.

  • Good find for those who got it, bargain of the day! I've had one for a year or two paid more than double this! Hasn't skipped a beat.

  • I'm a total noob at this stuff.. do you still need to filter it once it's ground down? or can you just pour in water like instant coffee?

    • +3

You'll still need a coffee machine of some kind, I'd look into a French Press as they are cheap and make nice coffee (subjectively) easily.

      • +2

For the noobs, a french press is also known as a coffee plunger

        • +1

Thanks guys!! I'm more interested in these machines over the capsule ones..

        • +6

And you are correct to be! The coffee in the capsules is pre-ground months before you get it. If you buy decent beans from a local roasting house, and grind them just before you make your coffee, you'll be pulling coffees out of a plunger or stovetop that are more flavoursome than anything a capsule machine ever could.

    • +3

Yes. Cheapest option would be a french press/plunger or even a stove-top coffee maker. Buy decent beans and you'll be making fantastic cuppas. Freshly ground beans make a very big difference to the taste of a coffee (much more of a difference than the coffee machine in my humble opinion).

    • +2

Even a cheap $100 coffee machine will make alot better coffee than capsule machines. Combine with this grinder and fresh beans and your winning.

Also a french press is good when I CBF to use the machine. Makes a nice long black.

    • +6

Aeropress ….. makes quite a good cup of coffee, and next to no cleaning up. :)

      • +4

Aeropress are great things. Much better than french press.

      • Seconding this. I use my aeropress at work nearly every day, often twice a day. I swear by it. Just make sure you're willing to put some time into learning its ins and outs

    • edit: oops, should have refreshed before posting

  • I even ground some small stones/pebbles in mine (great machine)

    • +3

      wut

      • Ok not deliberately they came for free with some beans from a faraway land ;)

  • Brought one, great deal.

  • Wow excellent price…this is known proper enthusiasts entry level machine…. some have to be shimmed

  • This grinder has a 5 year motor warranty.

  • I have had one for a few years since the Big W $99 deal. A good grinder but it can be very messy.

    • I have created custom spout that help heaps

    • +1

If you are grinding into a filter basket for an espresso machine, take the little plastic prongs off the grinder, hold the portafilter lower, and grind the coffee into the centre of the filterbasket.

That reduces the mess to an extent because the drop height makes a difference. The grind comes out with a lot of static and is repelled by coffee already in the basket, so using the grinder normally creates more mess.

  • Great price. I already have one though although I recall paying about $160 or so for mine a few years back

  • Just called and they are sold out in Newcastle but Tuggerah may be worth a try.

    • Still one plus a display at kotara so unsure who you spoke to.

  • unsure if I did miss out now?
    I received an order
It's pending in my paypal account and when I did process the order, when I went to complete it
    I received an error.

Pretty much at the time of it being sold out.

  • +1

I paid nearly this much for my Kyocera hand held which I love. Good price.

Great Price. Just those who doesn't know EM0450 (previous model or downgraded model ?!) is piece of crap. Useless for Espresso machine coffee bean grinding (even you adjust the settings). It comes out coarse only. Can use for drip brew thou.

    • +1

this is the same machine in the stainless steel.. EM0450 is plastic that's the only difference. You must have got a defective machine.

  • Shameless copypasta from another deal on here…

  • WOW this is cheap. I bought this for $149 at TGG, and that was by far the best price when i got it

  • Wow thats an amazing price for a conical burr grinder, I'm sad I missed out.

    • Call up some stores near you

  • +1

I had to put thicker washers under of the hood of mine to get it to grind finer. It's been an excellent grinder, had it for 3 years plus, still going strong.

  • I've had one of these for years, very good unit, no complaints from me. (I paid $185).

  • what's the difference between the 440 and 480.. is it worth the upgrade or is it same same?

    • According to this:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/110652
The main difference apart from the cheaper body is the burr is attached to the hopper which I assume means replacements are more difficult…

    • Same mechanism. The 480 just looks better.

      • I paid some ridiculously low price for my 440 a couple of years and its still going strong. I forget what maneuverer I pulled but I do remember that it cost me under $40. Alwaysonsale during the $20 giveaway… or one of BigW's promos I forget.

  • Oh dang!. Just bought this last night from TGG for $127.30. Gonna give myself an uppercut.

    • Price beat it. :) Get a print screen, quickly.

      • Done. Wonder if they'll give some crap eBay excuse.

      • "For online competitor prices the item must be available for immediate shipment." - No dice.

  • So sad I missed this. I have the hand held conical bur grinder and was waiting to upgrade!!!

  • Went into Adelaide, Rundle Mall. Scanned as $69, salesperson thought maybe that was part of their online only sale. No stock left, but they sold me the demo model with no extra discount, winning! Thanks OP!!

    • +1

I think I've got the last one (all sealed) from Adelaide, Rundle Mall store and that was about 35 minutes ago.

Now, really they are out of stock in that store as my friend also wanted one and checked that out justnow.

For those who want one but can't get hold of one online…don't be disheartened and check in store as HS don't advertise $69 in store and I think mainly Ozbargainers are the competitors to each other.

      • I was there at 9am when I got that display model! They must have found another at the back, oh well still happy!

  • Just got one from Westfield Chermside, scanned at $69. Two left on shelf plus the display model. Although I did hear another saleswoman talking on the phone to someone about it.

Unpacked, but haven't used, feels very solid. Most reviews rate it, possibly more so at this price.

  • Called docklands to check stock, put me on hold for 5 mins, then hung up on me. Poor service HS

  • Not sure if this problem with the Sunbeam has been fixed. Earlier versions couldn't grind fine enough for espresso machines.

Sunbeam rectified this by sending out a shim kit for users to install.

You might wanna talk note and ring Sunbeam if your EM doesn't grind fine enough at the finest setting.

    • Yeah some units need it… got my used for $50 couple of years ago..bought shim kit from ebay for couple of bucs…and love it now…capable of chocking my gaggia classic easily

    • Yeah some units need it… got my used for $50 couple of years ago..bought shim kit from ebay for couple of bucs…and love it now…capable of chocking my gaggia classic easily

      • It's super fine so problem rectified

  • Anyone got their order shipped? Mine still in processing status.

    • Mine says order status "Completed", dunno if it has been despatched yet though…

      • Looks like your order has been shipped. Are you their regular online customer? First time order from this shop and my Paypal payment is on pending status. Going to contact their customer support to see what's happening.

        • This is my first time buying online with HS but I did use credit card. Maybe check if your paypal account isn't frozen, that happened to me once when they thought a transaction was "dodgy" (was just come cables or something from ebay). If this is the case, try http://www.screw-paypal.com/ as it's near impossible to contact paypal otherwise!

        • My Paypal account is active at all time. I just brought something from another shop and payment was completed within seconds. Hope they're not out of stock.

        • Don't know how you were able to add the item to cart because it's been out of stock for a while. You have a better chance purchasing from your local HS store

        • At the time when I place my order some guy post in and said 7 in stock. It was in stock when I submitted my order.

  • Is Harrisscarfe a franchise operation?

  • Went to the Point Cook store on the way home today and got one!
This was about 5pm and they still had the display model.
Thank you OP, I have been checking on eBay and Gumtree for a bargain so very happy.

  • Hold one yesterday and pick it up today. This is the point cook store. They still have the display model.

  • Got 1 + the display from Southland, Vic. Thanks a lot OP. Better roast for me and birthday present for a friend sorted!

  • My order was shipped yesterday. :)

  • I saw this post while I was away OS last week and I'd been waiting for a decent priced grinder, I thought I'd try my luck today and picked one up from Knox HS.

  • Damn. I can't believe I missed this…
