Push it folks, I slept only 2 hours last night, worked hard on this one.

  • Nice price … next best is $733 (with free shipping) from Online Computer

    • 10" Asus EPC1000HE $679 after $89 CASHBACK
      http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…
also comes with a free 8gb corsair voyager USB Flash Drive.

so about even with this deal if you cant get the 89 cash back from COTD but you can with online computer.

      although from a poster below…

Can I purchase my ASUS product from any retailer?

No, you must purchase a participating model from a participating retailer. These retailers are: Myer, Officeworks, JB Hi Fi, Clive Peeters, Clive Anthony’s, Radio Rentals, Teds Camera Stores, Good Guys, Leading Edge Computers, Dick Smith, Bing Lee, David Jones, Nuance, Leading Edge Electronics, Pinpoint, Wireless1, Retravision, WOW, BSR, Harvey Norman, Joyce Mayne and Domayne

so maybe onlinecomputer is wrong…and you cant get them from either and COTD is heaps better.

      • +3

Called Asus cashback line and they stated that onlinecomputer.com.au are not eligible for the cashback only the ones listed above.

  • Is there a typo on the page, or does it really come with an N270 Atom?

  • Um.. this unit is using the atom n270 processor. So that basically means this has no difference to the 1000H… I think the 9.5 hour battery life only applies to the units with the n280 processor which consumes less energy. So my guess would be that this unit has a battery life of up to 7 hours. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    • +2

The main difference between this and the 1000H is the 1000HE has the LED backlight and larger battery (still 6 cell, but 62Whr instead of 48Whr).

The N280 actually uses a teeny, eeny, weeny bit more power than the N270. So it'll last a second or two longer than the reviews of the version with the N280.

      • I think the 1000H has the LED backlight as well (according to http://event.asus.com/eeepc/comparison/eeepc_comparison.htm). Being a similar price to the 1000H I guess this would be a good price just for the better battery and better looking keyboard.

        • Ah, good to know.

I was going based off of their website specs:

          Asus 1000H
          Asus 1000HE

For some reason it isn't mentioned in the 1000H specs, but it would be crazy to not have an LED backlight in a netbook.

  • Does that mean CoTD actually aim to sell at least 1,000 Eee PC 1000HE today?! All the best :)

    • I'd imagine they'd sell even more.. I guess we'll find out when the PayPal offer gets taken down!

    • +3

We hit 1000 at 8.30 am this morning ^^

      • +1

        Thanks for the update!

  • +2

Good price, but Australia continues to pay a huge premium on Netbooks :( This one retails for US$400 (~AU$500) overseas. I suppose it's what the market here can take…

  • -1

Hmmm, for the same price you can get this:

    http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

Slightly different spec - just a regular wireless card, but better processor (N280)

Might also be a slight typo on the site as the model says 1000HA, but description says 1000HE shrug

    • +2

      Looks like 1000HA, is 1000HA.

      • -4

are you guys going to change the webpage… cos if you say its a 1000HE and sell a 1000HA you might have another catch-a-thon nightmare.

        • +3

As far as i can tell he is refering to the link above from randomninja not the one on CoTD.

  • +1

@QQQ - I bought the eeepc just after 12 today and I didn't get the $40 discount! I thought it might have been a rebate or something until I tried to purchase another for a friend and the discount was applied!! Can you please rectify? I have called Paypal and they say the merchant(Catch of the Day/Daily Deals) has to rectify.

    • +5

Hi Chb, around 84 purchasers in the first 7 minutes did not receive the discount (mistake was made setting up the product in our system). It is being applied manually by two of our reps, won't be long till they get round to doing yours. All after 7 minutes are being discounted automatically.

      • +2

Thanks for the information QQQ. Appreciate it

  • -4

    Are you joking??!!

Is this actually 1000HA or 1000HE?

    This better be 1000HE…

    • +4

Lol - ours is 1000HE, the link posted by that user above is to a deal on 1000HA.

Can anyone comment on this :

    http://www.amazon.com/10-Inch-Netbook-Processor-Storage-Blue…

ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch Netbook (1.66 GHz Intel Atom N280 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB Eee Storage, Bluetooth, XP Home, 9.5 Hour Battery Life) Black
Free 1 YR Warranty (6 month for battery, 30 day ZBD Guaranteed)
    Price: US$377.59
    Delivery to Oz is ~US$20
    which makes it AU$500.
and please correct me if I'm wrong but laptops quality is quite good (at least Lenovo, Toshiba, ASUS ones), so probability that you are going get into trouble paying extra to organise return to the manufacturer is very minimal and definitely it is worth $120.

    • My understanding is that Amazon won't deliver to Australia. Please correct me if I am wrong. In that case the offer from Amazon would be great.

      • Amazon may not, but that item is shipped by another company.
However the delivery to Oz will be a lot more than $20. US mail is expensive.

BTW it seems this "netbook" weighs nearly 1.5kg with that battery.

  • -3

Would purchase if it's the 1000HE, someone should probably change it on the site..

Does anyone know the cheapest place to combine the $89 cashback from ASUS? Just checked Officeworks and they're advertising over $870..

    • +4

If you are talking about catchoftheday, it is definitely 1000HE.

        Looks like 1000HA, is 1000HA.

That's what confused me! Would also like to know if this is eligible for rebate!

        Thanks QQQ

        • +1

Hi mate, firm no on the rebate, see replies below.

    • +1

just get them to price match the cheapest store you can find :D then you get +5% and the 89 dollars off… QQQ did the research below.

  • So the stats are correct or incorrect?

    • +3

How did I get into this mess :) Its 1000HE :)

      • +2

1000HE has two SKU, n280 and n270, this one is n270.

cheapest online for the n280 is $733 delivered
cheapest online for the n270 delivered, ACB, is $712

catchoftheday today is $619 delivered, with paypal

note that I am not including overseas options in my research, australian market only

regarding diff. between n270 and n280, battery life is reported close to as long as with n280, see magazine reviews and benchmarks. in fact performance difference with n280 is still debatable/negligible in most cases.

        • -5

Hey QQQ - do we get the $89 cashback deal from Asus when we buy the laptop foer you guys @ CatchOfTheDay?

          • +2

@genes888: HEY WHY DONT YOU READ?

            far out…

        • so basically what your telling us is that if officeworks price match the ACB deal of 712 (+5%), then we can get the 89 dollar cashback? (as officeworks qualifies)
712-35.6(5% price match)-89 asus cashback = 587.4 damn good price!

          • @wisc: Good luck getting it price matched!

            • @robhung: Thanks thats nice of you to wish me luck, though I didn't think i would need it as isn't that there policy? if the other supplier has it in stock (including postage) they have to do it…

              • @wisc: Hi Wisc,
Is it possible to get cashback from OW stating COTD special deal for N270? Is COTD covered under their definition of a retail store?
How do you go about claiming this?

                • @nulled: doubt it would be… think you'd have difficulty getting them to price match it.

At minimum they would need a phone contact number and the add and the store has to have it in stock. (thats usually what they check.)

they have price matched from that for me before (i don't believe the on-line store had a shop front, it was cannon ink.)

the catch of the day isn't a bad deal but you should be able to get it cheaper with a bit more hassle(only due to the price match and cash back offer.)

but i'm no professional on this… best to find a store that has the 1000HE cheap, get office works to price match it, (there may be an issue with having to add freight as well so see if you can find one locally… EG MSY. had the 280 for 735 though not sure if the 89 dollars is off that as well.)

remembering where here for the best bargains not to promote shops or deal sites… i'd say this is a pretty good bargain from COTD.

              • -1

@wisc: Still confused, are you saying that it's possible to get the $587 because the post above says it would be difficult, but your post before says you can..

Is ACB = After cash back? Because I just realised the you said the ACB price of 712 then pricematched THEN cash back again.. so you've actually cash backed twice, unless I'm completely off the wrong track here!

  • -1

Asus Australia also currently offering a $89 cashback offer for EEPC 1000HE Netbooks. There is a claim form on their website!

    • +3

This cashback may not be claimed from our sale > its for traditional retail partners, see conditions. Our price is still well and truly under, after cash back from eligible partners anywhere else.

      • +1

Strange, how come Online Computers advertise that the Cash Back is eligible for them but when the terms and conditions in the Asus website doesn't include them in the list?

        • +2

Even if they were, cotd still cheaper

        • +2

          yeah COTD is cheaper,
if the online computers was eligible it also comes with a free memory stick making it about even, but I don't think they are eligible unless your getting a receipt from one of the eligible companies.

Nope. For the first 7 minutes (12:00-12:07pm), there's an error on their site so if you have purchased within this 7 minutes (first 84 orders), you do not have discount when you check out, but the discount will be done manually by the CoTD staffs.

I think they might still have stocks for $40 PayPal discount.

  • -2

anyone got a price match at office works?

  • -1

Officeworks only Price match with Stores with a shop address, and will also match the terms and conditions of the shop you are matching also.

  • -1

    Here's their address:

    2215 Dandenong Road
    Mulgrave
    Victoria 3170
    Australia

I'm pretty sure CoTD runs from the DailyDeals storefront?

  • +1

Yes but you cannot buy this deal from Daily Deals at the moment….. and even if they sell it and you live say in Sydney, office works will charge you the same freight that Daily Deals would charge. Just buy it though here, you are not going to do any better.

  • +1

I highly recomend buying the 2 GB RAM chip for around $30 AUD and replacing the 1 GB factory RAM as it runs so much faster ( wil boot up in apporx 30 seconds.. It is easy to change yourself just two screws underneath. Make sure you go into the bios first and turn off the boot booster or it will not recognise the upgrade. Then dont forget to turn the boot booster back on after replacing the Ram Chip.

    • +1

As an owner of the 1000H who has upgraded the RAM & HDD, I'm fairly confident in saying upgrading the RAM from 1GB to 2GB on Windows XP makes virtually no difference to startup performance and only makes a difference to overall performance if you're running a buttload of windows at once or using an incredibly RAM heavy application (most RAM heavy applications will run like a dog on the Atom N270 anyway).

I still think it's worth the money, 'cause $30 is nothing, but don't expect a big performance jump (maybe a second or two improvement on startup).

If you want the boot time to be faster, do a fresh install of XP, tweak it (simply using the AutoPatcher tweaks would be enough) and install minimal startup programs.

        • +2

I agree with all of that (and with Vista, although I can't imagine why anyone would use it over 7RC1 or XP).

I was just countering the comment spruiking improved startup times.

A good deal for a 1000HE. The 1000HE having the unique high capacity 6x2900ma battery. Can compare against other current EOFY bargains below to see how well this stacks up against netbooks and notebooks. Included notebooks in case readers believe they may be price limited to netbooks.

QQQ well done. You have addressed everyone's questions (despite the repeated questions that had already been answered - read other comments ozbargainers!) and addressed the $40 discount issue promptly. And your website handles the load now too.

    Nice work mate.

    • +2

Thank you AntMan. Was bit sluggish for the first minute, then our load balancer kicked in. The server admin's read ozbargain as well, and also say hi.

      • +3

So what are you going to do with the Commodore 64 now you have a real server? boom tish Try the veal.

      • +1

Have to agree with AntMan76, your prompt replies on this thread have been fantastic. Very impressive. Congrats on a great deal.

  • Does this one have bluetooth?

      • There are reportedly models that omit the bluetooth module, listed by some vendors as the 1000HEB. The COTD page does not list bluetooth in the specifications.

Those same reports state that the model comes with an Atom 270 processor, and smaller battery. This COTD model comes with the Atom 270, but claims the same 9.5hr battery life.

        Slightly confusing.

        Try googling that.

    • it has the bluetooth icon…though i couldn't find it in connectivity section..
I assume it has bluetooth since the icon is shown, otherwise its false advertising..
i've bought one…so will find out in 7-10 days time.

      • Also keen to find out, purchased it this afternoon! Can't wait.

    • +2

      Yes has bluetooth, 100%.

  • damn i missed the deal

    • You could always get this offer price matched at officeworks and get it for $546.95 (5% off plus $89 cashback from Asus).

  • Hey QQQ, is it too late to change my colour that I ordered? I'm assuming it shouldn't have been shipped since it's the weekend, but maybe it is too late.

I've ordered a White but I've decided for the Black now, is it still possible? I've seen an e-mail from the website but I'm afraid they might not read it unitl Monday morning when they do ship it.

The ticket ID is FGW-910385 for the e-mail or my order number was 477837.

    Thanks!

        Scotty typed:
"SS offer is not too bad if you can pick it up from Kingsford, Sydney", that doesn't seem possible:

        http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/help_article.php?id=29
"Can I organise my own courier? Can I pick up from your warehouse?
        NO.
Regrettably, we aren't able to facilitate pickups. These vendors ship the items directly from different warehouses around the country via very organised processes.
We are unable to accept outside courier services."
