$50 cheaper yesterday, what can you do I guess?

this is the 280 not the 270

Hah, my mistake. Seems like a decent deal then.

      • +5

        Yeah, it's a slightly better CPU. From 1.6GHz to 1.66GHz, from a 533MHz FSB to a 667MHz FSB.

Performance comparison in functions that are CPU heavy (note: in regular use, these differences are much smaller, these benchmarks are designed to test CPU-only functions), as sourced from here:

PC Mark 05 CPU Test (higher is better)
        N280 – N270
        1479 – 1444 PC Mark 05 CPU Points - 2.4% improvement

SiSoft Sandra Processor Arithmetic & Multimedia (higher is better)
        N280 – N270
        4.06 – 3.89 (GIPS) Dhrystone ALU - 4.3%
        3.46 – 3.33 (GFLOPS) Whetstone iSSE3 - 3.9%
        8.68 – 8.31 (MPixel/s) Int x8 iSSSE3 - 4.5%
        6.84 – 6.56 (MPixel/s) Float x4 iSSE2 - 4.3%
        1.27 – 1.22 (MPixel/s) Double x2 iSSE2 - 4.1%

Hyper PI & wPrime (lower time is better)
        N280 – N270
        01m 31s – 01m 35s for 1M digits of PI calculated in Hyper PI - 4.4%
        117.171 – 122.344 seconds for 32M in wPrime - 4.4%

So in regular use you'd imagine the performance difference would be about 1%. In CPU heavy tasks, up to 4.5%.

All the above was merely to inform, not dissing the deal in any way. Just saying not to get too excited by the N280 over the N270.

The price is still a good price, and I've voted positive.

This is really a good price. And if you can get this price matched at office works, you get 5% off ($33.45) plus $89 cashback from asus.

So the total price you would get this for is $546.55. For a netbook with an atom N280 chipset, 802.11n, web-cam, 160GB HDD, and 6 cell battery, I think this would be the sweetest price point at current for a netbook that ticks all the boxes.

Has anyone actually managed to get it price matched?

Don't you need the store address + contact number, which both Shoppingsquare doesn't provide?

Thank you for that helpful information tantryl!
Always been curious whethere there is actually a noticable different in peformance.

  • As mentioned earlier, anyone get a price match?

  • I bought this on the same day as when it was posted here at ozbargain, i paid for it on the 19th and so far after 7 business days it still hasn't shipped i shot out an email (after 5biz days) and they said they have yet to receive stock so what they are telling me they were selling something that wasn't in stock in the first place!

Not only that when this deal ended they had it for $619 + $49 shipping (sydney metro) the next morning it sold out so you could say i bought this when it was quite early also and fully expected that there would be some stock for the earlier buyers.

anyone else that bought this and still hasn't got theirs shipped yet?

EDIT: looks like it just shipped hopefully it arrives before friday.

EDIT 2: its been about a week now im happy with the netbook and a good deal
