The Sony Centre store at Robina Town Centre have reduced the Sony Xperia Ultra to $399.

I would have uploaded a receipt but I ended up getting the Z1 price matching MSY's $549.

  • Anyone know if this is available at nunawading?

  • Sucks that no one will match this price without any kind of proof :(

  • +1

Also available Sony Centre Perth $399.

    • So it is nation wide? Can you anyone comment if the z ultra has the same screen cracking issue as the z1?

    • So its sold out by now?

      • Yeah all sold out.I bought the last white one and a two people called up by buying the black ones.

  • +2

this is a bloody bargain. had mine since september 2013 and its been amazing. no problem fitting into my jeans and suit pockets (sticks out the top of some shorts pockets).

cant wait for the Z2 Ultra.

  • Wow. This is a crazy price.

  • Got this price at the Sony kiosk in Chatswood. I was told the deal was Saturday and Sunday only, YMMV.

    • Are there any other Sony Centres in Sydney? Unusualy, the website says there aren't any in Sydney.

      • That's because the Sony Centres on that website are actual stores you can walk into.

The kiosks are pop-up stores in the middle of a mall.

The only other Sydney kiosk is in Parramatta. See http://www.sony.com.au/microsite/sonykiosk/

        • Thanks for that. Just came back from there. They had run out of stock but i was able to order on the spot to pick up when they re-order more stock around Tuesday.

  • Good price. OK phone.

I've had to send it back for repair twice now.

First time, the phone just died and didn't boot up. A month (!) later I got it back. Motherboard replaced.

2nd time round, the camera died. Back at repair.

The Smartwatch 2 I had also had to be repaired (dead pixels developed on the screen).

Sony QC #fail or just my bad luck?

PS: KitKat just released for the phone. At least Sony are quick(ish) to update phones!

    • My Xperia Z died and refused to boot up as well. Motherboard replaced too.

  • So, I'm guessing it's all sold out? :(

  • It's a nice mini tablet but so unnecessarily large as a phone.

  • Is there stOck available in Melbourne city bourke street store?

  • Chatswood had 2 left 10 minutes ago.

  • Thanks poster, got a white one at Robina yesterday afternoon. I think none is left now, you can deposit and they will get more next week. Mean while, I think Sony Brisbane has few left if anyone is interested.

  • Thanks OP! Picked the last white ultra at Parramatta. The Salesmen said that this price was going to stay until stock runs out!

  • Great post OP. Just an FYI my brother was able to put in an order at the Parramatta kiosk for pickup this coming week. For those who are searching give that a shot! And for my two cents worth I've had this phone since last year and I love it! Yes, even without the LED flash.

  • is this possible to price matched by jbhifi?

    • they wont - they have their cost price marked as 535 still.

  • Don't forget to update it to Kitkat (4.4.2) by using the PC Companion program. The update is not available OTA. :)

    • Are you sure? I thought it's rolling out since two days ago. Will PC companion update erase the user data?

      • +1

It won't erase user data. It's rolling out but when I checked OTA I didn't get any update. Used the PC Companion and update was there. Running 4.4.2 now.

        • Hows Kitkat for the phone? Speedy?

        • I've read on the xda-developers forum for Xperia Ultra that some people think 4.4 is running slower than the phone was running 4.3! Reports vary.

  • Is Parramatta or Chatswood accepting backorders for the Xperia Ultra?

If you have bought this - what are your impressions, especially about getting used to its size?

FYI, there is a lot of discussion about the phone, the Kitkat 4.4 upgrade and modding the phone and alternative ROMs at xda-developers. forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra‎

    • I had one, for three days. It's big. It is almost 1/4 of a kilo, unprotected. Add a case and it's obviously even bigger. The charge flap is fiddly, solved with a dock, but cases compatible with the dock are hard to find

It was glorious to use, but just not practical for my lifestyle.

      • That seems to be the opinion of my wife too - who I bought one for.

I may try swapping at the store for a Z1.

Anyone know anything about the returns policy of Sony Centres? Are they likely to allow an exchange?

        • They also have z1 promo for the same price as z ultra?

        • Don't think so. I may have to throw some cash their way too…

    • I called them up (parramatta) yesterday and they said they had some stock in their warehouse.

They will take orders for the phones at the sale price until stock is sold out.

Phones should be delivered to the Parra store by Tue/Wed.

  • Just ordered one over the phone ( had to pay full in advance) in Nunawading store. They said it will be available to pick up in one weeks time. So, if anybody still interested just call your nearest sony centre and order then wait for their call to pick up!

    • Yeap, went into the Nunawading store this arvo and place an order. They said there have 25 to be delivered this week and only 8 left (well 7 now that I paid for mine)

:-( only black, no white, they had 3 in that shipment but all gone now

      • Yeah they had 3 when I went to the store. I bought a white and some asian guy bought a black. At the same time someone called up buying the last black one. They literally sold all 3 in stock within 1 minute.

  • They had at least half a dozen in the Brisbane store this morning. Doubt there's any left now. Apparently it wasn't supposed to officially go on sale until later today so maybe there'll be some promo media that you can use to attempt a price match.

  • Of course they tried to flog the dock for ~$65.
    Now what case?

  • Bought my white and my friends black in the brisbane store. Sounds more stock will come. Am using the phone now

  • So this is not the LTE version with 4G?

  • +1

    nvm silly mistake

  • 5 white and more blacks available now in Brisbane store. They just got the stock 5 minutes ago

  • Anyone know how this compares to Note3???? I want a Note 3, but this is so cheap to pass.

I did a search for "Sony Z Ultra screen cracking" and came up with quite a few sites. There seems to be quite a few examples of the screen cracking for apparently no reason and many of those people say Sony won't repair under warranty. I almost bought one until I read this. Other sites also say that it has plastic screen protectors front and back from the factory that are soft and tend to scratch. People have removed them but then say that the glass doesn't have the same feel as other as other Gorilla glass phones (this is not Gorilla glass) and doesn't have teh oleophobic coating so is very much an oil/fingerprint magnet. Anyone in Australia with experience with these issues.

    • Don't own the phone (yet) … but you can pick up high quality oleophobic screen protectors for $15 or so. Wouldn't be a reason for me to avoid this phone though the cracking may well be.

BTW these people aren't talking about the screen protector that's meant to be removed are they … cos I've known two people who left it on not realising it's meant to be removed. IE it's in no way meant to stay on as a screen protector.

Anyhow although I always fit a screen protector for many people it's not really needed. The only thing that scratches screens is when a hard particle like sand gets rubbed hard between your finger or the stylus and the screen in my experience. General wear and tear like keys in pockets for example wont damage the screen though the case can be another story. For peace of mind or avoiding oil/glare by all means get one although you want to make sure it's high quality to avoid to much visual degradation or what's the point.

Gorilla Glass isn't a standard it's a brand and not one that has an exclusive level of quality these days either.

      • Good to know about the oleophobic protectors. Thanks.
From what I read and watched on YouTube it definitely looks like it is meant to stay on. To get it off you need to get under it with something like a needle and it takes quite a bit of force to get it off. It did not seen like a regular shipping protector sheet. Some even had the Sony logo printed on the protector so that when it was removed the logo was gone.

  • NO LONGER AVAILABLE EITHER IN STORE OR "FROM THE WAREHOUSE" IN SYDNEY

  • Melbourne CBD store is out and will not be getting any more either. I met another fellow ozbargainer there who told me about the Norton deal at HN.

I had visited the store yesterday and they were awaiting shipment. Today at 915AM they said no left, all have deposits on. I went in to the store and there were 3 people who bought it within 5 minutes. So as far as Melbourne goes, this deal is finished.

  • Any left in Brisbane store?

  • Thanks to ozbargain, I now have a phablet I didnt really need…thats the ozbargain instinct

    • +1

OzB ain't a good site for the impulsive or the "just in case" shopper … keep reading over and over about members buying stuff they don't think they'll use which sorta defeats the point of saving money in some respects heh.

      • I did need a telephony device though…I had an LG p690 Optimus Spirit from Coles which is finally giving up the ghost (randomly stops playing music through headset, makes static hissing noise when headset is plugged in with nothing playing)…

I didn't want another PoS like that, so this is a good deal for $399.

I can see though as to why they aren't hugely popular…it's relatively awkward in size. It's almost as large as a Nexus S, so selling it as a phone is understandably going to lead to underwhelming sales.

  • Brisbane store should have 1 or 2 black, and might get more black in next week, but no more white

  • -1

I had one on order at the Sony store but after more research decided not to buy. When the guy rang me I said I was concerned over reading that a number of people on the net said that it cracked for no reason. He said that he gets at least one person a week returning it to his store for warranty saying that it cracked for no reason but when sent to Sony they declined the warranty saying it was user induced. Whether the people are lying or not I would still be concerned that that many people are cracking the screen. Is it that fragile? Perhaps this is the reason for such a low price on a pretty high spec phone.

    • Can I have your one then turbodude?

      • The bloke from Sony center rang me to see if I still wanted it as someone else wanted it so already gone.

    • -2

Yeah cause no idiot returns their phone for warranty repair and tells the truth about how the cracked the screen. Your loss, seriously. This phone is awesome. Nothing compares for $399. This is a Note 3 competitor. Ffs even the old GS4 still sells for more.

      • +1

Did you not read my last line? "Whether the people are lying or not I would still be concerned that that many people are cracking the screen. Is it that fragile?"

  • Hi just wanna know anyone who pre order their phone from Nunawading store has already received stock? Am still eagerly waiting for mine still haven't got any call from them… wonder why take so long

  • Can I still get one in Sydney? Anyone would like to transfer the quota to me?

  • The CP12 power case is available for $128.19 for Sony X members (inclusive of shipping)

    • There's some on eBay at about that price. Better than the $249 quoted by SC but still pricy.

  • After much deliberation I did buy this, and i absolutely love it.
Couldn't go back to a crappy moto g now!

  • Big screen has more pluses than minuses. No good if you wanna take your phone running though it fits nicely in my jersey pocket so OK fire cycling. Bought 2 more this week for friend and Mrs. It's actually an ideal girly phone because will fit in most purses. Still the best bargain high end phone going.
