How do I get the Amazon Appstore on my Android device? To download these apps free now, download the Amazon Appstore for Android: https://www.amazon.com.au/getstarted

Why isn’t the app free for me? If you have an existing Amazon.com account but cannot download the app for free, you may still be shopping the Amazon.com store.

How can I get the app for free if I have an Amazon.com account? To shop Amazon.com.au change your ‘1-Click address’ to your Australian address. Go into 'Manage my Kindle' and check that the ‘Country Settings’ show your ‘Current country’ as Australia. Just below that, it will state: ‘You are currently linked to shop on Amazon.com.au.’ If it says ‘You are currently linked to shop on Amazon.com’, then click the related link to select Amazon.com.au.

You do not need to create a new account and you can continue to shop for physical goods at Amazon.com. You can always change back to Amazon.com for digital products at any time.

Swype would have to be the best keyboard I've ever used on a phone. Immediately paid for once it hit the Androids market. Well worth the download!

    • +5

I have purchased both swype and swift , but always use swype. Best one by far.

      • +1

I too have purchased both and SwiftKey is only good for word predictions in my opinion. But it does do that really well!

      • I got SwiftKey for free when it was on promotion on Amazon in the past (and now I have Swype for free too). I prefer Swype primarily for the Japanese and Chinese language packs; otherwise they're both equally great keyboard apps.

      • Purchased Swype, Swift AND Swift Tablet before it was discontinued (although all at discounted price). Always went back to Swype — which you can now get for free…

      • does swype have emoji? i know swiftkey doesn't

        • -1

No unfortunately. But it does have input for emoticons. E.g.
          :-)
          :-!
          B-)

  • Does anyone know a good mail app free/paid ?

  • Thanks, getting it just for Worms 2

  • Thanks mate

  • Worms 2 coming up as 99c in app, any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi Spackbace,

You may be shopping Amazon.com instead of Amazon.com.au.

    1. Check that your ‘1-Click address’ shows your Australian address.
    2. Go into 'Manage my Kindle' and check that the ‘Country Settings’ show your ‘Current country’ as Australia.
    3. Below that, it will probably say: 'You are currently linked to shop on Amazon.com’, if so, click the related link to select Amazon.com.au.

    Thanks,

    Lee

    • I have an android phone (and not a kindle), so how do I change my address to Australia? I dont see 1click address anywhere in amazon appstore.

      • +2

        Hi gsrt22,

The best way to change your account details is via the website. Log in and go into 'Your Account'.

Under 'Settings' you will see 'Account Settings' and then '1 click settings'. You can change to your Australian address here.

After you've done this, go into 'Digital Content' and click 'Manage Your Kindle' then 'Country Settings'. Make sure it shows your 'Current Country' as Australia. Underneath that it will say ‘You are currently linked to shop on Amazon.com'. Click on the related link to change to Amazon.com.au.

        Thanks

        Lee

        • thanks. after 2 hours struggling it worked. you guys realy need to simplify the app store soon. Many people will not spend 2 hours of their time on something that can be managed in one minute in Google appstore.

        • I can't find 'digital content' anywhere on the website.

        • This was the method that worked for me too. I think the reason for that is because some of us may have registered on the US website (and set up our US addresses cough) before the launch of the AUS website. Seems like it's two separate online stores, making us have to switch our kindle device from the US store to the AUS store.

        • Hi stumo,

When you go into 'Your Account' on the website, 'Digital Content' is the 4th box down, after 'Orders', 'Payment' and 'Settings'.

          Thanks,

          Lee

        • OK digital contemt and country setting doesn't show up on the mobile site - seriously? Wtf?

So now I've set up everything as you said. 1-click is my au address. Kindle country settings is australia and it says I'm on .com.au….

And its still showing geo restrictions when I try to "buy" one of these free apps.

          Grrrrrrr.

        • Hi stumo,

I am really sorry that this is still not working for you.

Can you please provide us your device details by clicking this link www.amazon.com.au/contactus
and we would be happy to look into the problem further for you?

          Thanks,

          Lee

        • I just got it working now. The problem seems to be my visa credit card. Even though its billing address is set up as my Australian address, the card itself is from hsbc UK.

So I put in my Australian credit card and deleted that other card and now it works. Its really crap because I've been using that HSBC card on amazon for over a decade, in 4 different countries, and never had a problems. Its only this au appstore bs that is causing all this.

In hindsight, I should have just stuck with the US appstore.

  • If I remove the amazon app and reinstall it say next year can I still redownload these apps for free

    • Yes. These app are linked to your account, rather than phone.

      • Ok then my next question is, If I uninstall the amazon app and reinstall it will it automatically download all the installers again.

I notice when I "buy"these apps it downloads the installer first but there's no way to remove it.

Some of these apps I "brought" I like them but I don't want to install them now.it would be nice to be able to free up the space until then.

        • If you re-install Amazon Appstore app it does not automatically install all the apps in your account. You have to go to "My Apps" -> "Cloud" and then select the apps under your account to install.

        • Thanks Scotty but does it predownload the install files even if you don't want to install it?

  • having trouble with "geographical restrictions" even though i'm on the amazon.com.au site…

    • +2

      Hi kermuffle,

Your account may be set up to shop Amazon.com.

To check and change this, change your ‘1-Click address’ to your Australian address. Go into 'Manage my Kindle' and make sure that the ‘Country Settings’ show your ‘Current country’ as Australia.

Underneath that, it should say: ‘You are currently linked to shop on Amazon.com.au.’ But if it says ‘You are currently linked to shop on Amazon.com’, then you are definitely shopping Amazon.com. Just click the related link to select Amazon.com.au.

      Thanks

      Lee

      • Works now.

  • Awesome ! Thanks !

  • nvm

  • Downloaded "Ghost Toasters - Regular Show" which appears to be free for the moment, and I then received an email…

As a purchaser of a select app from the Amazon Appstore for Android you have earned a $1 credit valid towards Amazon MP3 albums or single songs at http://www.amazon.com/mp3

    • Nice. Just got it too. :)

  • Great!thx

To save everyone a heap of time trying to install it via mobile using the mobile site you can't u have to request desktop site Via browser settings then go to amazon.com.au then just search for the app via search bar otherwise use your computer.

Thanks you so much, man I've try to find the way to see the apps I've paid over on the desktop, but when using the AmazonApp can't see them anywhere until follow your way go to cloud and refresh and voila there is it heheh, thanks.

  • Cool - thanks! I just had to change my default 'one click' shipping address to my AU address and then could purchase via the web.

  • +1

Just spent 15 minutes trying to get it to work. Further to the reps instructions if you are browsing on your mobile I've found you need to go the the full site in order to use 1 click. There doesn't seem to be an option on the mobile site (using chrome)

  • Thanks OP

  • Is switching an account from Amazon US to AU a one way trip? Can you still take advantage of US store offers later?

    • +3

      Hi EarlyBird,

If you change your digital account over to Amazon.com.au, you can still shop for physical goods on Amazon.com. If you decide to change back to Amazon.com for digital products, you can do so at any time.

      Thanks

      Lee

Works well on my BlackBerry 10 smartphone.

Is there a difference in content between the .com and .com.au sites?.

Edit: I think the free app of the day just changed when I switched location :/

2nd edit: I just read the permissions required for runtastic pro…wtf!

  • it seems like we will lose the US store apps?

  • Great apps thx

  • I'm going to track what free apps of the day each store has to see if were missing out.

  • Have jumped through all the hoops, all I get is

" We are sorry… •We could not process your order because of geographical restrictions on the product which you were attempting to purchase. Please refer to the terms of use for this product to determine the geographical restrictions.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you. "

  • Thank you Amazon!

  • All current settings are set to Aus but still getting Geographical restrictions up.
    Any Ideas?

    • one of rep's posts above shows you how to change the link to amazon.com to amazon.com.au. After that you should be able to download free apps from Appstore on your Android device.

    • Hi Maniac au,

If you are still having difficulties after changing your '1-click' settings, checking your 'Current Country' and ensuring that your account is linked to Amazon.com.au, please provide us your device details by clicking this link www.amazon.com.au/contactus and we will look into the problem for you.

      Thanks,

      Lee

  • My phone memory is getting full from all these free apps!

    • Buy a new phone….:)

  • Thanks OP. Dang some of those games aren't small…

  • Guys, I couldn't be bothered to change my existing Amazon account. So I created a new account without a credit card, just the address. Then I went to my Phone apps, selected Amazon App store, Force Stop, Clear data.

Then I could login to Amazon App store with my new Amazon ID. Then I downloaded the free apps, although I was just after Swype.

  • Very frustrating trying to get it work. I think I should give up.

      Hi ubor,
