I would prefer a traditional TV as I don't have wide flat surface to hang the screen and certainly not possible to darken the room.

As I live in a rented apartment, I am not allowed to do physical modification of the apartment as well so I can't hang the projector and attached the screen on the wall and as I mentioned, I do not have a wide flat white wall for me to enjoy.

Many more reason but mainly, no space.

With that argument your BenQ is better than any TV on the market.

      What a winner you are.

      • I don't understand the why I'm getting negged on this, I just wanted to know the pros/cons.

Sounds like you've been left in the dark.

        • Nice backtrack.

Simple… 1080p spanning across 150" = BIGGER pixels! That personally bugs me as I can spot it a mile away but I know many who don't care… so each to their own.

Now UHD/4K over 150" would be a completely different story but do native UHD projectors even exist yet?!?! Ahhh yes, $40,000: http://www.whathifi.com/news/ces-sony-announces-ultra-hd-4k-…

      • I sit further back from the screen but even when I am closer in it is not too blocky, only slightly. I could move it closer in to get 80" if I wanted to anyway. The specs for this TV don't have UHD, so we are on a 1080P vs 1080P pane. Comparing Projector @ 80" 1080P to LCD TV @ 80" 1080P what pros/cons are we looking at?

        • My 800x600 projector has a 12m throw and projects an image 3.5m wide diagonally, with my TV perched (low) below. Pixels are about 6mm wide, and I sit 4m from the screen (wall). Pixels are noticeable only on a stationary menu. That said, I haven't used the projector for many years now since the muncan household upgraded the CRT to LED. The brightness, colour & contrast are far superior in my 55" Kogan LED than the 3.5m Acer.

          Apples & Apples, that's better :)

I know for one thing, I'd hate the inconvenience of having to darken the room each time I wanted reasonable colour, contrast & intensity so being a single TV household I'd much prefer to go LED/OLED as it's a far better all-rounder. I've watched the news and the 200th rerun of Seinfeld episodes on a projector before and it wasn't too enjoyable. If you've got the luxury of a dedicated Home Theatre or Media Room with the further luxury of setting it up properly for maximum movie watching enjoyment then yeah a Projector would be very hard to beat and would offer best bang for buck. Again, each to their own.

If you move your projector back even further, you can get 500"!

To say you really can't go wrong with a factory second is arguable. To me, it's not the scratch that matters, it's what happened to the appliance that caused it to have that scratch (g-forces).

  • Anyone care to check the prices for the TVs?

    • The 80" model (LC80LE940X) is about $6k at JB Hifi and $6.4k at Harvey Norman. 2k odd saving ain't bad!

      • keep in mind is is B grade (cosmetic damage but no dead pixels) with only 6 months warranty

    Scratched, Dented & Carton Damaged

Didn't they see the SHARP warning?

  • deciding whether to get the 80" or not
to click or not to click

    • 4K not $4K

That's return 4 trips to the USA. Maybe 5 if you wait a month…

  • I've already got return trips to la and tokyo thanks to here
Bit scared about this b grade bs tho

  • 70" C grade is very tempting, anyone know what pixel damage might be or how bad it would be?

  • Only 6 months warranty is for me, a deal breaker. Too risky.

    • Hi Davestan, We managed to secure a small number of Carton Damaged stock with normal Sharp warranty. I hope that helps restore the deal :) https://sharpaustralia.com.au/shop/

The 80 inch TV requires a USB wifi stick wow..
    How old is this design…
Sharp in America have some grade spec models yet they don't bring then out her.. In the 70 inch model that is the USA's bottom of the range and have 5 spec models above it..
Why do we always get offered the garbage in this country..

  • Just want to share my experience. I hv been regularly visiting ozbargain scouting for good bargains but this is first time I ever leave a comment. I bought a refurbished steamwave abt 2 weeks ago, as am interested with the steam function. To my horror, the microwave doesn't even work upon receiving it.
I called the customer care number immediately, the guy lodged a report for me, said someone will contact me. That was Wednesday morning. I then lodge a report via sharp website as well, urging sharp to contact me ASAP. To date, I still haven't heard a word from sharp. Better still, whilst no one has contacted me abt the not working microwave, I received an email from sharp asking me to rate the customer service. This is first time I bought sharp, thinking although it is refurbished, it must have good quality control as a Japanese brand. I have to say so far my first experience with them is disappointing! Me and my wife have been waiting for its arrival whole week and when it arrived, it didn't work. Then hoping they would rectify it soon but it seems they like to know how you rate their customer service first before someone even contacted you about your problem. Or Perhaps I should be more patient waiting for them to call me later. I really hope i will hear from them soon.

    • Call them again, and ask to speak to the person who was handling your case.

  • I bought a D-Link Boxee for $63 delivered… It didn't say damaged or seconds or refurb so I'm expecting a brand new item…

    • Well my Boxee arrived today. Seems brand new in seal. I'm yet to actually open it though.. will wait until I get home. Looks promising so far! Damn cheap for a $180RRP device.
