Just got an email from Amazon with this price. I've never seen it go this low in USD pricing before.

I can confirm with "AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping (averages 8-16 business days)" it comes to AUD 135.74 shipped.

Good price, but be sure to take a look at the write speeds before you buy, denser wafers in the M500 mean the 240GB is a bit slower than you might expect it to be.

    http://techreport.com/review/24666/crucial-m500-ssd-reviewed

To see the M500's full performance potential, you'll need at least the 480GB version. The 240GB model has a much slower sequential write speed rating, and its random I/O rates are lower, as well. The 120GB drive is slower still, with only one NAND die for each of the controller's eight channels. No wonder Crucial is skipping a 60GB variant.

    • +6

I've got the 480GB version, here's my benchmarks if anyone's interested:

      AS SSD
      Crystal Disk Mark
      HD Tune

    • +2

I don't really understand why people are bothered with write-speeds. For the average user it's the read-speeds that are the important one given that's what you do most.

      • +1

many early SSDs had poor random write speeds - we're talking about 250ms latency vs 15ms on a normal HDD. so a lot of people focus on them as theyre an area often overlooked (everyone tests sequential read speeds)

Find an EVO for this price, and the negs will go away.

  • +22

God these prices are coming down so fast I'm getting the biggest economies of scale boner

  • Evo is better in performance but may lack long term value say. By a year or two
However, all these drives should last atleast 5 years
This drive not too bad for its price

But more tlc drives with faster controllers coming second half of the year, hence these are now at discount prices

    • Long term value? Do you resell your SSDs?

  • +1

will we see 120GB go down to $50 or lower in this decade?

    • My thoughts exactly; if there was this kind of price drop on a 120GB version I'd be all over it

    • I would say, give it 18 to 36 months tops

      • Prices could hit some type of manufacturing problem like fires/floods and spike up again like they did 1 1/2 years ago.

    • easily

  • wow, hate to have bought it at 130USD a few weeks before: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/132797

  • It's also worth mentioning that the 480GB model has dropped $20 dollars from it's regular price of $260.

  • +1

there's a invite only buy $50 gift card and get an additional $10 credit promo atm… check your junk/spam box

  • Very tempting. I picked up a 256GB two weeks back for $160, definitely regretting that now!

I already have this drive - picked it up about a year and a half back I think for $380 when it was on special then. Has been a great drive.

  • +2

Wow…that's very cheap. Too bad I bought the Evo 256GB already. People without SSD should consider this one

  • Thanx op :-)

If you bought this recently, I had this chat to amazon rep:

Me:Hi my order of the crucial 240gb ssd dropped in price a few days after I ordered it. wondering if there is a price guarantee when that happens?

Sathish:Hello, I'm Sathish from Amazon. I will be happy to assist you.
Sure! I can do it for you.
Since the price of the item has changed within seven days of the delivery of the order, I've issued a refund for the price difference in the amount of $20. You should see the refund in the next 2-3 business days.
Once processed, you'll also be able to see the refund request here:

    Me:ok many thanks !

    • Thanks for your comment I got $19.01 back as it was $129 when I ordered. Lady said they will match the price if it drops within 7 days of me receiving the item and My order is still on the way to me…. technically I should still have 9 more days of price guarantee if the price drop again. Come on Crucial you can do it!!! Make us all happy!

  • Bought it to put in my 2010 MacBook Pro 13" to give it a boost

    • yeah, me too…upgrading 2010 Mbp 7,1 model…

  • I want to buy, but don't know how to install it to my PC…any advised please?

    • +1

      Similar to this. http://blog.laptopmag.com/triple-your-speed-how-to-install-a…

I found it easier just to copy the existing HD to the new one. And then just remove the old HD and let it boot from the new HD

    • +2

Sledge hammer usually does the trick.

      • +1

Interesting choice. I usually go with a nail bat myself but they both work. Gotta make sure the sucker stays in.

  • Thanks. I Never install a hard drive b4, I ll have to do more research. BTW do u still keep the old HD on the PC?

  • Hi

Does anyone know if these drives are able to be installed in a 2013 iMac ? If so, is it a drama ?

    Cheers

    Pookie

    • Does anyone know if these drives are able to be installed in a 2013 iMac?

You would think so. But if I know Apple as well as I think I do, probably not.

If they do let you install it yourself, I don't think it will be a drama. But this is Apple. They won't even let you change the battery in an iPhone or iPad yourself. You gotta pay like $150+ to let them do it for you, or just buy a new one, which you'll probably end up doing instead.

Laptops are a bit different though. I think there is an expectation that you be able to do it yourself. But Apple is Apple and there are no two ways around that.

    • Yes, drama it is

    • This iFixit guide might help you to open iMac, and it did mention you can replace existing hard drive.
      http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2639+T…

    • Depends on the size. If it's a 21.5" sure, but you can only replace the HDD with it, so you'd wanna make sure it's big enough for your needs.

Just saw the 480GB is now down a further $10, to $229. I just picked one up.

  • I am interested in using this as an external drive. Which external case with USB 3 would you guys recommend?

  • Cost me $176.96 Just around 6 weeks ago for the 240 GB From Amazon

Bugger Getting Cheaper by The Day

  • purchases, thanks!

  • I keep getting "This item can't be shipped to your selected destination" even though it comes up when I tick "AmazonGlobal Eligible" and the description says it can be sent overseas.

Price gone up to $114.99 too.

    • Price has gone back down to 109…also I can checkout fine with it - no shipping issue?

      • crap, it JUST changed. Decided to order a 480GB instead of 2x 240GB. And it looks like the 240GB were shipped by Crucial, not Amazon, which is why they couldn't be sent overseas. It's 'fixed' now, but I already put in my order, no biggie.

        • You can cancel within 24 hours at Amazon.

  • Not buying but this is a good deal

  • Thanks!! I just purchased one, great price!

  • how does it compare with the 512Gb Plextor M5-PRO? MSY is selling it for $329 ATM

    • It's 272GB less than the Plextor for starters, but it's also cheaper.

  • I also keep getting "This item can't be shipped to your selected destination". How did people get around this?

    • Check that the seller is Amazon and also that you're not trying to send it to a PO Box.

      • Thanks!

        • Solved? Which was it?

  • I chose the expedited shipping. Cost $25 extra, and got here (Brisbane) in 2 days! If it's not delivered in 3 days (I think?), they refund the $25. Was a great option if you need it fast, I thought.

    • Yeah, still a bit cheaper than sourcing one locally.

  • Out of stock :(

    • Looks like Amazon's own stock is now gone, and it's now fulfilled by Crucial, which doesn't deliver to Australia.

      • +1

For around $10 more, the Shopping Express deal is a good alternative. Local stock and warranty is probably worth the $10.

Worth keeping an eye on Amazon though, they often run out of stock and source more pretty quickly.

        • That's right, Amazon usually re-stock very quickly

  • They are back in stock, just ordered

    • It is sold by other company. They don't send to Australia :(

      • Amazon re-stock this morning
and it is sending to Australia now

      • Yeah at the moment it seems to be sold by DealsPro1 at USD$107 but they don't ship to Australia (even when they were fulfilled by Amazon).

  • +1

    Mods please add to title:

Have to select amazon as the seller to get it shipped over to Australia. Price has gone up to 110.18

Edit: sold by amazon now with updated price and shipping availabke

  • Can this be installed in the dell inspiron 640m or the hp N40L microserver? I have the plextor ssd installed in my microserver at the moment but with only 120g so thinking of replacing with 240g and use the plextor ssd for the dell instead (still dont know if the plextor fit in the dell laptop caddy but) or even buy 2 and install one in each if they are compatible. any advise?

  • looks cool. But the price has gone up to $119.00. Free shipping is still remain.

  • back at $109 as of this morning. Damn I ordered yesterday when it was $119

    • +2

Chat to support staff and you should get either a $10 refund or credit. Here is an example of what to do.

Let us know how it pans out.
