What do you mean? Given that these spindles are heavy and thus usually attract substantial postage charges the free shipping allows those living outside the major population centres to get in on a good deal.

      • you're right! thanks.

$1 cheaper at MSY. So if you live close to them go there.

How is this good? 9289 had these for $10 and free shipping a few months ago

    • Am aware of this as I also posted the other deal. The reason this is good is that it is the best available deal on these DVD-Rs at this time, especially when you take into account the free shipping which, as mentioned above, makes MSY type prices available to those outside major metropolitan centres.

It would be great if the $255 for 24" Dell Monitor deal came back http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/6961 as I missed the last one however that doesn't mean I appreciate threads showing the same monitor for $350 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/10374 or $332 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/9672 any less.

I bought one of the $10 spools of these from 9289.
Sadly, I've had a very high failure rate (50%+) with them. YMMV

It depends on the burner used, but yes these are CMC MAG AM3 which are mediocre at best, as per my comments in previous posts about LG or similar discs.

I could buy these discs from MSY for $13, in less than 5 minutes from my house (at the right time of day). Yet I don't because CMC MAG AM3 have always been crap for me, regardless of brand (TDK, HP, Vertex, LG). They skip in my fussy player, even when using a decent drive (7200a, 115D, 216, SH-203D etc). They scan poorly in PI/PIF parity scans, on all scanning drives (including BenQ 1640).
I have no such problems with Verbatim discs, (although I still found 8x on the 115D gave the best burn quality), or Taiyo Yuden TYG02/03.
I am not necessarily a CMC MAG hater though as I still buy cheap CMC MAG CD-Rs and my old favorites Datastream 8x DVD+R, which were CMC MAG E01, which I found to be just as reliable as Verbatim discs, only significantly cheaper at around 25c each shipped! Sadly these are no longer available.

    • But 14.99 is still a good price, isn't it?!

Before posting the deal I checked on staticice http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?sourceid=Moziā€¦
At the time it was the second cheapest after the NetPlus $14.50.

The point this deal comes back to is a product price which is almost the best price on staticice but with free postage. Spindles are heavy and hence incur substantial postage costs however the free delivery levels the playing field a bit for folks living outside the metropolitan centres.

  • Yes the DVDs are printable across most of the surface area (besides roughly the outer 1mm and the inner clear hub bit), so they have as much printable area as other brands which are call themselves fully printable. What I don't like about these LG DVDs is that they have dark text on the white printable bit going around about 1/5th of the hub, it states LG symbol then "LG DVD-R 16x" which is so dark that printing over it STILL ALLOWS THE LG text to show. Also the white printable area around the inner hub isn't as white as the rest of the surface (light easily passes through it), so overall the looks of these DVDs aren't that nice if that happens to be one of the main reasons you were wishing to buy these DVDs.

I would upload a picture but there doesn't seem to be an option (besides when a deal is initially posted) (I have seen otherspoint to external locations of pictures they wish to share), so can I upload a picture?

  • Netplus have been selling these for $14.50 for sometime now. Not much of a special, but I guess it really depends on your location.

I used to get a few of these spindles when they sold them for ~$12.50. Havnt nuked any disks or happen to come across any ones which have failed in the past. Thumbs up from me.
