ME Bank EveryDay Transaction Account - 5% PayPass Cashback Offer for 6 Months

1490

Hi everyone,

Here’s the latest offer from ME Bank.

Open an EveryDay Transaction Account before 31st of August, and get 5% cash back when you Tap and Go on all MasterCard PayPass purchases under $100 for the first 6 months (naturally, terms and conditions apply, check them out at mebank.com.au/everyday). The money you get back goes into your account 30 days after the date of transaction.

You can find out more and apply here

What’s the catch? This is for new accounts, so if you already have an ME Bank EveryDay Transaction Account opened on or prior to 2 March 2014 you’re not eligible – sorry!

BUT, if you or someone you know doesn’t have an EveryDay Transaction Account – why not join ME Bank today and enjoy an account with no account-keeping fees, and free access to over 3,000 ME Bank, Westpac, St.George, BankSA and Bank of Melbourne ATMs?

Cheers, Scott from ME Bank

      • Thanks danb!

        • Can you please explain how does the cash back works? I used my card under $100 using pay pass (tap), doesn't get 5% cash back, is it calculated every month? pls advise.

        • Really?

"The money you get back goes into your account 30 days after the date of transaction."

    • Quick, someone check that we're not being disrespected on Twitter ;-P
      * shudder *

    • Hi Trishool – I’m here! Let me know if you have any questions.

"The 5% cash back offer will not apply to ATM transactions, payments pressing ‘Savings’, ‘Cheque’ or ‘Credit’, BPAY®, PayAnyone, Phone or Internet Banking, direct debits or credits, cheque or Bank@Post transactions."

So how exactly do you pay for something with it? If you can't press Savings, Cheque, or Credit what other options do you have?

    • +3

      Paypass buddy, Paypass!

      • -3

I don't consider having that function on a card very safe… I'd rather it take longer to process than have a thief make unlimited purchases with it.

        • +3

Well then, the ING and MEBank 5% rebate is probably not right for you :)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the bank has to cover you if you are a victim of card theft/skimming

        • +1

how hard will it be to convince them that you weren't the one who made the transactions? if it's easy I can see it being open for abuse.

  • I too had the call from ING for repeated purchases at the same store on the same day and with the threat to close the account and it is true you only get the 2% after the first 6 months if you follow this earlier post requirement:
The payWave Rebate will apply for the next calendar month when Eligible Customers deposit at least $2,000 from an external bank account to any of their Personal ING DIRECT accounts (excluding Living Super) before the last day of the preceding calendar month (“Eligible Period”). Any deposits that are from an ING DIRECT account in your name or joint name (i.e. internal transfers) or to a Business account will not be counted.

  • I get this error:
    Work Object Not Found
Application Customer On-Boarding & Account Origination
Message Work object not available on clipboard, please try again

    • I guess Scott pretty busy and cant find any work object to do

    • Hey congngo, how did you go? Sorry to see this has happened.

      • Hi Rep, I just tried again and it is working ok.
Just submitted the application, very easy and painless!
I will recommend it to my friends.

    • It happened to me a couple of times (on iPad Safari), too. I just kept pressing 'Retry' and it finally worked.

  • woohoo, it's like ING all over again. Yes, got to wait until the end of the month, but better than nothing, right?

I had to use opera, as the system wouldn't let me go past the first step on Firefox without some weird button option only.

cash back within 30 days.. ing is like 4 days for me

  • +1

Since I wasn't "randomly selected" by ING for the referral promo…thanks ME Bank ;-).

  • I get how to open an account online.
How do I close it online?

  • Hmmm…not bad, not good either for those with ING 5% cashback to switch. 30 days is a long time for the cashback though

  • Scott,

I only just opened a new everyday account with the AustralianSuper offer for the special interest rate.

Anyway to open another account for this 5% rebate offer?

    • Hi Liski – unfortunately given you’ve got an EveryDay Transaction Account as part of the Australian Super offer, you’re ineligible for this offer. I hope you’re enjoying that AS promotion though!

  • Well i am trying g to sign up and go to select drivers licence state and apparently NSW is not important enough to be on there.

    i cant sign up then.

    • All you need to do is take a picture of your NSW license and upload it.

I did this today, and it was all approved within a few hours.

  • Good job ME Bank! I welcome all competition and will give you guys a shot because of this offer. Thanks.

  • Just curious what sort of kickback banks get from paywave?

    • A reasonable amount, it's a push by VISA to encourage others to get onto the new technology. ME Bank and ING won't be the last banks to offer this, so watch this space!

      • if other banks get on the bandwagon, i will definitely be all ears.

      • Ah ok. Makes sense. Mostly anyway. New technology ._.

      • ME is MasterCard's catch-up to ING's Visa.

  • MEBankScott - I have an account open that's not used. Any chance you'll want to convince me to use it? Am I eligible if I close the account and open a new one?

P.S. MEBank has the best looking cards!

    • I have an account open that's not used

Why? If you had closed the account, you would not even have to bother posting this question.

      Just saying ;)

      • +2

I have learnt my lesson. ;)

        Thanks to you, ginmi.

    • Hi OzJD – unfortunately that means you’re ineligible for this offer. Sorry about that.

  • bullshit … not for current customers. .. thought ME was meant to be different from the big4. and yes all theres fees are ridiculous. .. always have to watch how you use your card so not to be slugged at the end of the month

  • Just saw a TV advert for the ING 5% cashback. Yeah, a TV advert!
A slightly more excited version of this one: http://youtu.be/ZFG6bT494Hg

  • Rep I am unable to verify identity, it only gives me option for QLD, ACT, VIC, SA. ? it's missing NSW?
it that a bug? how can I verify identity online using driving license?

  • i been with ING for almost 9 months now… and i still have 5% cashback. i thought it only apply for 6months.

  • I can see one of the sentence said "$100 or less", while other sentences said "under $100", just want to clarify which one is max, $100 or $99.99 to qualify a cash back.

    • the t&cs say $100

  • can't apply online i get stuck in verifying identity online?
    anyone else had this issue?

  • I submited the application.
but a few days later I got the email saying:
We’ve noticed that you have not completed your EveryDay Transaction Account application.

    • Over the space of about 12 hours I tried 3 times to apply for this, but it got stuck before it went to the verifying screen. A few days later, I had 3 emails asking to complete the applications. The day after the 3 applications I was able to apply successfully.

      • Yeah I had to apply twice hence the incomplete email I guess..

Just because you've ING'ed before doesn't mean you can't ING again.

  • Still waiting for the PIN.
Will this arrive in a seperate letter?

    • +1

you set one up online when you activate your card or by going to manage my card.

    • What chetan said - it appears they do things a little differently (and IMHO, better) to other banks. Have a read of the letter that came with the card stuck to it.

It says that you can either log into online banking and activate your card and choose a pin yourself, or if you don't have access to internet banking you can call them on 13 15 63 and they will help you with activating the card and choose a pin.

      Hope this helps!

  • I already have an online saving account with Me Bank, now I would like to open an ETA. Am I eligible to have the 5% cash back?

    • Hi Yulisa, you are eligible provided you don't already have an ETA - Scott

  • Does anyone find it slightly strange that the bank uses emoji on its website ad….

  • -1

I went to mebank.com.au , there's no information regarding the 5% cash back for everyday transaction account . Why ?

    • click on the link

  • FYI, I came across a limitation which was different to the specified daily limits of this transaction account.

In addition to the daily amount limit (which is 2k but can be changed in internet banking), there is a transaction limit of approx 14 paypass/wave/eftpos/card transactions. I confirmed with the bank that my funds were fine, still had hundreds left in there, it was just a # transactions limit. Called them up and apparently it's meant to be 20 transactions so it was weird that it stopped at 14.

Other than that, nice and painless process so far from application through to internet banking and getting card and using it. Can't wait for the cashback at end of month!!!

  • so the cashback is at the end of the month?

    • Sorry, I meant after 30 days.

    • … just checked my account and I got some cashback deposited already for the transactions I was talking about, made less than 14 days ago!

I am guessing they're processing it for groups of transactions at a time and paying it out "within 30 days" instead, I am assuming they're just processing it in batches but can't tell exactly which transactions it has applied to as it's an odd amount.

  • Did anyone open a Online Savings account with them?
    4.6% rate(variable + bonus) is pretty sweet.

  • +1

They sent me 2 credit cards and created 4 onine accounts, I think I hit the submit button twice :S

    • LOL

  • Hi rep

i have received a welcome pack but can not find any detail of 5% cash back in letter.

  • Got first paypass cashback paid after 7 days of first transactions after opening the account near the start of the promotion. Dunno if it's a glitch (meant to be after 30 days of transaction), but it's great to see the money roll in early!

Danger - I'm not a rep but I don't think this cashback promotion was advertised in my welcome pack either but I wouldn't worry, it's such a new promo they just haven't gotten around to producing flyers and advertising it properly yet.

  • fleetoiler,

Thanks for feedback. Perfect timing as my ING 5% cash back just expired. Also, delighted hearing that your cashback took 7 days to credit back.

    Cheers

  • I uploaded my drivers licence (VIC) as part of the application process. It was never completed, I receive reminder emails every day to do the ID verification, but the form or online verification is not accessible anymore.
I have also called MEBank, but they cannot see anything in their system.

New online application does not work anymore either. Email address does not get verified anymore (tried different browsers, computers).

What kind of bank is this???

    Good luck guys

  • update:

    Dear quirki,
    Thank you for your email.
You are correct that your accounts were closed before that date, but because you had an Everyday Transaction Account, at any date before the 3 March 2014, the promotion does not apply.
It only applies to customers who are opening an Everyday Transaction Account for the very first time, after the 03/03/2014. Not to customer's who have ever previously held an Everyday Transaction Account.
I hope this clears it up.

If you ever had an ETA and closed it prior to this promotion, you're not eligible for the 5% cashback. /cry

  • Got my first cash back today after 10 days. Application process was easy and fast Compared to other banks. Online saver interest rate is good too. Happy with ME bank so far. Only gripe is online website and mobile banking app can't compare with other banks. But minor stuff really.
