Original Deal:
UPDATE - CLARIFICATION OF $40 GIFT CARD: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/competitions/subsc…
Taken from that page: "All features described below are valid for those who subscribe to any of the four Herald Sun subscription packages on offer, which start from just $1 for the first 28 days.

This offer is open to new subscribers only and ends on March 31.

The offer includes:

$40 REBEL GIFT CARD
You’ll get $40 to spend on whatever you like at Rebel, including AFL team gear, at any Australian store or online at www.rebelsport.com.au "

Deal:
I know Herald Sun has had the $1 for 28 days subscription for a while now, but until 31st March 2014 you can also get a $40 gift card to spend on whatever you like at Rebel in store or online. The gift card is sent to you within 14 days of subscription, giving you plenty of time to cancel. If you dont cancel, it then reverts to $4.00 per week.
You can also get the Sunday paper delivered in the $1 subscription too, but that reverts to $4.50 after the promotional period, which I think is pretty good value anyway

From itsmemeow's comment:
You can select any of the 4 subscriptions, which start at $1 - this includes the digital only bundle. You will receive a $40 Rebel Sports gift card

Based on the terms and conditions on the subscribe page - the rebel gift card will be sent out within 14 days, so presumably you could not cancel your subscription before then if you intend to.

You only pay $1 now via credit card or PayPal. Your subscription will renew in approx. 3 weeks. Based on registering today, my renewal is March 23rd and I would be charged $16 based on the plan I selected.

According to their FAQ's (once registered), their cancellation policy is as follows:

How much notice do I need to give to cancel my subscription?
Your digital access will be cancelled within 5 business days, but home delivery may continue for up to a further 5 business days (those of you in WA should allow up to 10 business days for deliveries to cease).
Oh, and we won’t charge you a cancellation fee.

Terms and Conditions

Renewals occur unless cancelled.
Payment in advance by credit/debit card or Paypal only.
Offer only available where regular home delivery exists for VIC residents and where no additional freight is charged.
Offer available for limited time only.

  • For 3rd March subscribers safe date to cancel? Lol I'm not going to get my GC, as I already received two papers at my door worth $1

    • you can cancel now and they will still deliver your papers till the end of the time you paid for. not sure if they can see it. plus since you probably arent getting a GC since the 3rd is too late.

  • I signed up to the Sunday delivery, and got it the first week… nothing today though…definitely time to cancel!

  • Received nothing. Opened paypal dispute. Cancelled the paypal authorisation and cancelling the sub on Monday. Waste of time.

  • -2

I just completed the online form to cancel my subscription and then Bitdefender picked up an infected file that it says was in my cookies. No other tabs or windows were open. Strange.

Anyway, here was my cancellation message:

Make sure it is cancelled immediately. Under the contract terms I don't want to pay more than my $1 sign up fee. Respond to this if you wish. Don't respond, your choice. Open my account and cancel it please. Can you please cancel it now? How have you not cancelled it yet? I am getting impatient. So, have you cancelled it yet? Are you going to cancel it? Can you PLEASE cancel it NOW! Usually you would not have read this much. Now please, cancel my subscription. Today.

    • +6

      wow, that's kind of childish

      • +2

        At least I've got chicken.

    • Did you cancelled via "contact us via email" -> cancellation request

  • +3

I subscribed to The Advertiser (SA) and selected the digital + Sunday paper option, but they delivered 1 on Sunday 9th March (around 1pm)… so I ended up buying a copy anyway and today's still hasn't arrived and it's almost 3:30pm.

So, no sign of the gift card (despite being assured I would receive one when I contacted customer service and signed up before they changed the T&C) and they don't even deliver the paper either.

Useless. I'll be blasting them tomorrow!

  • WILL be ringing up tomorrow, demanding the card, then desuscribing

    • +3

      unsubscribing *

      • +5

        Meh

    • +2

      good luck desuscribing

  • +20

For those who paid by paypal you can cancel the pre approved authorisation so they can't keep billing you:
Paypal - my account - profile - my money - click update on My pre-approved payments - click on merchant News Limited - change Status from Active to cancel.

    • So I paid by paypal, so if I do as aboev what gidxh03 mentions, there is no way they can get the $'s outta us? I just smell a rat with all of this and I only received 1 paper also so far.

      • +2

Yes dazzza. This means if they try and get money from your paypal account, paypal will stop them because you make it inactive.

We all did it for a wine club deal a few months back and it was super effective.

      • +1

Interesting to see how many people haven't been receiving the papers they paid for.

        • I got 1 of 2

        • Same here…. got last Sunday's, but nothing today…. pretty disappointed!

        • pretty good scam

        • The way Rupert sees it, $1 only paid for the 1 paper.

        • No Sunday Mail for me either.

    • +5

      Dear apat,

This email confirms that you have cancelled your payment agreement with News Limited. No further payments will be made from your PayPal account to this merchant. If you have any further questions about the agreement, or wish to reinstate it, please contact News Limited directly.

      Sincerely,
      PayPal

      Suck on that Uncle Rupert.

  • No paper today…

Just stopped the PayPal recurring bill.

  • Isn't the cancel day today (monday)? If I don't get my gift card today, i'll cancel.

  • +1

Yep two Sundays in and still no paper - for a promo, this is poorly handled.

    • +2

perhaps they're hoping that non-delivery will cause cancellations to save them giving gift cards?

i'd let them know so that the sunday paper will be delivered after the 28day digital subscription is finished/cancelled to fulfil the print obligation :)

  • +1

damn you Rupert, you fuct us again

  • +1

Did anyone actually read the paper (printed or online)?

In that case it would have been a very well invested $40 by Rupert to get some propaganda into people's heads. Certainly cheaper than the election advertising budget Clive spends here in WA on the senate election re-run…

  • Perhaps we should ask if we cancel would be still receive the gift card. Might call tomorrow myself

  • 2 sundays passed with no paper. I called and cancelled today and will get a partial refund. They blamed the newsagent for non-delivery. Non commital re the gift card. If i dont get it i guess i got screwed 50c. Well played news ltd

  • Just call their customer service, they say that they pass my informations to the marketing department and that I need to wait further 2 weeks to get the gift cards. I've told them I've already waited 2 weeks.

Looks like this bargain is a fud. Well cancel immediately. Any tips of how to cancel?

    • +1

ditto, rung them and got the same response….f*&king scam i'd say!
cancel recurring bill in PP and cancel both of my subscription.

  • +1

looks like they have changed the T&Cs, now it says "If you are eligible by remaining a subscriber for 12 weeks, the Rebel Gift Card will be sent to you within 14 days after 12 weeks from when you purchased your valid subscription."

    http://www.heraldsun.com.au/subscribe/news/1/

  • +10

Changed T&C, classic news limited. No chance anyone will get their giftcard, best case scenario is a refund of some kind. Very disappointed & have cancelled paypal agreement/sent email. If they don't respond to my satisfaction (eg. giftcard or immediate refund), I'll be disputing via paypal immediately.

Edit: I have emailed them the following

    Hello,

On 1 March 2014, I subscribed to your promotion of the $1 news+ subscription, which included a $40 rebel sport gift card.

I made sure to check the terms and conditions carefully, because it sounded too good to be true. I saved a copy of these terms and have attached the original web page as a screenshot to this email. The following is the entire original terms and conditions relating to the Rebel Gift Card:

"Rebel $40 Gift Card To take up the Rebel Gift Card offer you must subscribe to a News + Digital or Digital Bundle subscription. The Rebel Gift Card will be sent to you within 14 days of purchase of the subscription. The Rebel Gift Card may be used at any Rebel store within Australia or online at www.rebelsport.com.au. Rebel Gift Card terms and conditions apply. See www.rebelsport.com.au/GiftCard/Terms for full Gift Card terms and conditions. Rebel is reponsible for the fulfilment of the terms and conditions for the Rebel Gift Card."

It is clear that you have changed the line which states "The Rebel Gift Card will be sent to you within 14 days of purchase of the subscription." to the following:

"If you are eligible by remaining a subscriber for 12 weeks, the Rebel Gift Card will be sent to you within 14 days after 12 weeks from when you purchased your valid subscription."

This is misleading and nowhere in the terms and conditions that I agreed to did it state that I must remain a subscriber for 12 weeks.

I expect I will still be receiving a Rebel $40 Gift Card in the mail as would be expected from the original terms and conditions, or adequate reimbursement for the time, effort and money I have wasted registering, checking and chasing up this promotion. If that isn't going to happen, I will promptly open a PayPal dispute and contact the ACCC.

    Regards,

    • +3

Let us know how you go. I've sent them a similar email, albeit a little bit more brief, noting that I'd saved the terms and conditions from the time I signed up, and I politely requested to know where my gift card is.

I plan to do this a couple of times per week until they either reply or send me a gift card.

I don't even want the gift card that much. Lazy marketing just irks me.
First Rupert helps the Libs take my NBN away via a mass pro-coalition marketing campaign, and now this.

  • +1

Ditto… total dsregard for their mistakes and not even making any apology for it and permanently banned in my family as with previous Lamenovo deal still left a long lasting negative impression and they missed out on 2 notebook sale in my family since!
I am assuming no one got their Rebel card here, so this little scam has netted them I guess at least 10K and miuch more in $$$$$ worth of potential spmable valid email address which probably can be resold or kept with marketing with for more value than the $10k cash for the $1 each; Judging by the number of clicks and given most would sign with at least 1 account for members of their family as well…..absolutely shameful!

  • +8

Maybe the ABCs Checkout program should shame them

  • I think there was an opportunity for News to create some goodwill by acknowledging the stuff up and making good by perhaps offering a free 6 month subscription (at no cost to themselves either) as an alternative. Disappointing there's been no contact or transparency in the way the promotion is being managed.

It seems the right body to lodge a complaint with, if that's your wish, is your local state's Consumer Affairs department. Some details on cash backs and bonuses here:
    http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/shopping/advertising-and-prom…

    • I'm not sure anyone (aside from an extremely limited few) actually want to read this Murdoch run paper. We're all here for the GCs really and after we'll all be cancelling.

Hey guys! I just rang the Daily Telegraph hotline (1300 696 397), and the young man said that they are honouring all subscriptions before the 3rd (when the T&Cs changed), and that the gift cards should have been sent out or in the process of being sent out, and that there was a massive backlog. He gave me this number to check up more about the exact status of the gift cards, and I will ring them up and check it out now.

    UPDATE:
I rang this number, who are the 3rd party who handle all of the gift cards, promotions, etc.. She said that she didn't have me in the database, and asked me to give her all of my details, which then, added me into the database of getting the gift card. HOWEVER, she seemed to know nothing about the huge flood of subscriptions that were meant to be honoured, and said she would follow it up with the Telegraph. As far as she knew, just like the guy from the Telegraph that I rang before, all subscriptions before March 3rd were meant to get honoured. Since there were only 4 people who handle phone calls at this 3rd party centre that I was redirected to, I am respectfully not putting their number up as I know you'd spam them, haha!

Interesting to see how this develops, though.

    • +6

The "young man" knows bugger all about the status of the gift cards. The gift cards are being handled by Marketing, and the "young man" is simply a Telephone Monkey. The facts are:

      • Original T&C was revised on 3/3/2014;
      • No gift cards have been sent to anybody;
      • Marketing is sitting on two lists of subscribers, pre- and post-3/3. It has not decided on what to do about pre-3/3 subscribers who have cancelled or will cancel their subscriptions;
      • Marketing is telling Telephone Monkeys there is a delay (of 2-3 weeks) while it "catches up with the massive backlog". How you interpret that is your choice.

Poor Telephone Monkeys are reading between the lines, making up excuses as best they can, and trying to placate irate callers. Telephone Monkeys do not know how Marketing will decide and they are powerless to do anything about it.

      • I can't tell whether your tone is passive aggressive or not, but anyway:

I rang back the second hotline that I was provided, and the woman, part of the 3rd party that actually manages the sending out of the gift cards and various promotions, confirmed that several batches of gift cards have in fact been sent out.

        • +1

Thanks for the update Vinbie. My tone is neutral frustration with a dash of confusion :-)

"Don't believe what the telephone operators tell you" and "don't get your hopes up" are what I was trying to say.

The fact that your detail is not on the 3rd party database leads me to believe that a short list of subscribers was sent to Gift Card Fulfilment, but Marketing panicked when it saw the flood of subscriptions and stopped fulfilment until it can figure out what to do.

If News Limited is honouring all pre-3/3 gift card claims, then Marketing can simply e-mail GCF the list of names and addresses and be done with it. There may be a handling delay but it won't NL's problem. But this has not happened yet.

        • Thank you for clarifying! I am in the same boat.
At the very least, I think we can be rest assured that a big chunk of the community will be hassling through direct communication, PayPal disputes, etc.. I imagine they would just bow down and honour the initial bulk of subscribers. Either way, I have stopped my auto PayPal subscription (and advise everyone else to do the same), and will continue to monitor the situation, as well as ring up and nag for updates, haha.

    • +1

Just called the hotline to obtain the 3rd Party number.
(Surprisingly) I was not on the list even though I subscribed pre T&Cs change.

They obtained my details, However they did not add me to the list. They added me to a separate list by which they will be sending the Telegraph at the end of the week to confirm our subscriptions.

You may have been told differently, or just misheard perhaps?

  • So early in this thread the consensus was to cancel on the 18th. but lots of people are cancelling today should we cancel today, wait till tomorrow or wait till the card is received and then cancel resulting in a low cost gift card $3-4 for $40 assuming one receives it?

    • +1

I did not cancel my subscription but I cancelled my Paypal agreement within Paypal, meaning they can't draw any more funds if they try.

But even if they draw funds from someone's account, they have to refund them pro-rata once they receive a cancellation.

Edit: that said: nowhere in the terms does it say you need to remain subscribed until you receive your gift card. They are obliged to send it even if you cancel.

      • -1

Edit: that said: nowhere in the terms does it say you need to remain subscribed until you receive your gift card. They are obliged to send it even if you cancel.

cancel subscription = cancel offer acceptance => refund => no gift card

        cancelling <> not renewing

        • +1

It is possible that some bad lawyer would try to argue that way.

But then that lawyer would shoot themselves into the foot for all time - because that argument would in turn mean that anyone why subscribes can always cancel later and get a full refund.

I think any refund would only be pro-rata for the future. What happens in future does not change that they owe us that card - the have owed it from the moment we took out the subscription, since that was the only contractual condition.

        • -1

It is possible that some bad lawyer would try to argue that way.

          do you know contract law?

          get a full refund.

          never mentioned full refund

I think any refund would only be pro-rata for the future.

          yes

the have owed it from the moment we took out the subscription, since that was the only contractual condition.

          cancel subscription = cancel contract

Rebel $40 Gift Card To take up the Rebel Gift Card offer you must subscribe to a News + Digital or Digital Bundle subscription.

        • +1

Tonester, do you know contract law?

The T & Cs as you quoted state ".. you must subscribe to a News+Digital [service]…". He (presumably) did subscribe to a News+Digital service and paid the consideration required. He has fulfilled his side of the contract as that is essentially all he had to do. Now it is up to News to perform their side of the contract.

Nowhere do the (original) T&Cs state "you must remain a subscriber for x period in order to receive the GC".

However, as stated below, I don't think it is a great idea to cancel the subscription just yet as they may take it as a "cancellation" even when it clearly is not.

        • +1

Do you know contract law? This case is quite simple.

If a whole contract that you entered into were to be cancelled both sides would have to return everything they received from the other side. You'd basically undo the whole thing. An example would be if you cancel an insurance policy during a cooling off period: you get your premium back, but won't get paid for any claims you might have already made. There are very few (clearly legislated) examples where one party can simply cancel a valid contract. This subscription is not one of those examples.

When you cancel a subscription you cancel any future obligations within the terms of an existing contract. The contract itself does not get reversed. Past obligations are not affected. You don't get money back for papers you already received nor do you have to return those papers. And in this case: the obligation of Newscorp to supply a gift card, that came into effect the moment you took out the subscription under the old T&C, remains in force.

But again: knowing what you are owed and getting it is a big difference. Since no one will go to court over $40 we have to hope that the threat of the ACCC possibly going to court for millions is enough to make them play ball.

        • -1

When you cancel a subscription you cancel any future obligations within the terms of an existing contract.

          contract = offer

Rebel $40 Gift Card To take up the Rebel Gift Card offer you must subscribe to a News + Digital or Digital Bundle subscription.

          cancel subscription = cancel offer

You don't get money back for papers you already received nor do you have to return those papers.

hence pro-rata refund (not to mention one can't return digital access)

or do you also believe in pro-rata gift card? :)

  • +5

So I have been following this up for a while now, trying to obtain a straight answer from someone in the Telegraph. They were unhelpful to say the least… However, they advised me that they would be sending my details to an email address (didn't specify) they have in their information sheet.
After re-reading these posts, Vinbie mentioned a third party number to which I called up again to obtain.

This number was a Rebel Sports Marketing hotline (PM me for details). They advised me that I was not on the list even though I subscribed on the morning of 02/03/2014. I provided them with my details, and they have added me to a list of other subscribers that have called them up, requesting the Telegraph to confirm that we will receive the gift card. They will be sending this list to the Telegraph at the end of the week…

Now in terms of un-subscribing, I suggest we only un-subscribe if we are on that list. Until I get the go ahead that I will be receiving the voucher, I will not be cancelling my subscription just yet.

    I hope this helps everyone.

    • -1

Thanks for providing such valuable information! One thing I request is that you take off the number. I agree that it feels good knowing that your info has been taken down, but when I mentioned the amount of people affected on here that would be chasing up details vigorously, she asked I didn't put the number up online, just because they only have a few people manning the phones. I don't think they're responsible at all for what has happened, but I know they'd get bombarded with that number provided. It is still easy enough to ring up Daily Telegraph and request the number as you and I did, but that way, if the flow of traffic becomes huge to the Rebel Sports line, they can at least request for it to not be given out anymore.

Anyway, just my opinion on it. She specifically asked me not to give the number out just because of the huge traffic that it would surely send their way, in a short staff manned situation.

      • +1

Just reported my comment to try and have it replaced with (PM me for details) as I am unable to edit.
She didn't request that I withhold the number, and because it is easily obtainable I thought it might be best to post it up here.

Anyway, I shall leave it in the Moderators hands now :)

        • Will PM you, BUT TURN OM PM ;)

Another version of complaint letter. Thanks brezzo for the template.

Dear News Limited Customer Support - Online Subscriptions,

It has been 17 days since I subscribed to your $1 news+ subscription promotion, yet the $40 Rebel Sports promotional gift card has not arrive. The customer support telephone operator has advised me that there will be a 3-week delay in sending out the promotional gift cards. I understand that any business will suffer from the occasional hiccup, but I am troubled by your clear disregard of our Contract and by your subsequent revision of the Terms and Conditions.

On 1 March 2014, I subscribed to your promotion of the $1 news+ subscription, which included a $40 Rebel Sports promotional gift card. The published Terms & Conditions on 1 March 2014 state the following in relation to the promotional gift card:

On 3 March 2014, the Term and Condition which states "The Rebel Gift Card will be sent to you within 14 days of purchase of the subscription." was changed to the following:

"If you are eligible by remaining a subscriber for 12 weeks, the Rebel Gift Card will be sent to you within 14 days after 12 weeks from when you purchased your valid subscription."

News Limited neither has seek my agreement to, nor will I accept, this significant change in the Terms and Conditions. I expect News Limited to fulfil our Contract with the unaltered Terms and Conditions of 1 March 2014, and that Rebel and you will send the promotional gift card to me as soon as practicable regardless of my current subscription status.

Please respond promptly in writing, and update me as to the delivery date of my promotional gift card. I will be reporting your breach of our contract to ACCC and Fair Trading NSW if you fail to so in a timely manner.

    Yours sincerely,

  • Rang up Adelaide Advertiser
Shelia (Samantha) said she'll follow it up with marketing, there has been lots of enqureries about them, and get back to me. Should be about to post/on it's way. Should treat the 14 days as business days.

Here's my message to them via the Contact Us form. It fits within the 2000 character limit and includes a request to cancel subscription effective immediately. Thanks to brezzo and alvian for the templates :)

    Long question short:

Will I still get my card if I cancel my subscription today?

(I signed up 1 March using credit card not paypal)

    • Why don't you call them and ask? Even then it will depend on whether you get a correct answer or something made up on the fly…

Edit: in my view a cancellation of the subscription for the future (even with a partial refund) does not change their obligation to provide the gift card. But being right and getting what you deserve a two very different things.

well i plan on keeping the subscription until i receive my gift cards, then i'll cancel and receive a pro rata refund for unused portion

    • Exactly, if I receive the GC at the end of this week, I'll cancel the subscription. I will be refunded the $16 unused pro-rata (since everyone seems to be refunded their unused pre-paid portion).

To me, the pro-rata refund seems to cancel out the 5 day cancellation processing time, hence why I'd rather unsubscribe at the end of this week rather than today as some may have done.

      • I just cancelled the PP pre-auth so they can't draw any funds. I think I remember reading that they will auto cancel the subs. anyway if they can't contact you or get paid.

        • Yes, correct about auto cancel

  • Just cancelled mine too

    • Did you cancel online or through the phone?
I can't seem to find the cancellation link on the website.

Just called 1300 696 397 which rang out. Rang again and spoke to someone who advised me that it is 14 business days before cards will be received not 14 calendar days. I advised that this was not as per the terms and conditions as originally stated. She advised there was nothing she could do about that and that is what it initially meant. I (cheekily) asked if that meant that my monthly subscription would also then last 28 business days rather than calendar days. I got a negative response. She advised I could call back if not received by 14 business days (which would be thursday this week). I told her i held little hope of receiving it. She hung up on me.

Use the 1800 680 640 number - let it be at their expense.

  • Wouldn't want to be the intern that screwed up the terms and conditions =)

Tip for anyone who subscribed with a CC instead of Paypal: you can go to your news ltd account page and easily change your payment terms to Paypal and get the security of Paypal's de-activate "pre-approved payments" feature.

    • Noted thanks thevofa!

OzBargainer's have been done over this time by Rupert. Not even Gerry was able to do this.

He wins this round - watch out!!!

  • Dear <<Food>>,

This email is in regards to the delivery of your Rebel Gift Card.

I have followed this up for you and have been told that it should have been delivered within 14 business days from signing up but there has been a delay that we are still waiting on roughly how long. If you could allow another week or so and if you still haven't received the card you can either reply to this email directly or call our customer service line on 1300 696 397.

    Sorry about the inconvenience.

Please don't hesitate to reply to this email.

    Kind Regards,

    Samantha

Rang up this morning, got put through to the promotions team. Wasn't on the list but the lady took my details and said she'd pass them on. Have no idea what is happening apart from that.

Just rang up, and the same

  • Here is my experience for my Herald Sun subscription:

    Called 1800 696 397
Selected '2' for Herald Sun (will be different depending on what you subscribed to)
    Selected '5' for 'Other issue'
    Conversation:
    - Spoke to guy called Pasquale
    - Gave my Id number, name and address to confirm myself (ID is in the welcome email you got)
    - Explained that I joined on 2 March at 1.30am and was expecting the $40 Rebel card
    - He confirmed this on his side and said that there was a backlog of cards to process and that I was eligible for the card
    - He put me on hold for a sec and when he came back he said that I should be expecting the card probably in the next two weeks
    - I thanked him and hung up

Now I am a bit torn as to WHEN I need to cancel my subscription (which by the way was the $1 one). It will be $16 billed to me every 4 weeks so I am now going to see about switching to Pay Pal and setting up the dispute thing people are talking about.

    Regards
    Daniel

EDIT: Hmmmmm, just realised that I had Free Supercoach Gold access with this subscription. Didn't realise it when I set up my HeraldSun Supercoach this year lol. Just checking it out more thoroughly now.

  • in the next payment issued, mines coming up as 23rd of march….shoudlnt we wait until 22? or so

    • I think there is a possible processing delay of X (possibly 5) working days for them to register your cancellation. People are factoring in that into the equation.

But if you cancelled PayPal and they can't get funds, they'll cancel it anyway

          knackers

    • +3

There could possibly be a 5 day processing time for cancellation, which is why it is best to cancel on the 18th to avoid possible heartaches.

Though if you paid by Paypal. Just cancel payment authorisation for recurring payments to news limited

Profile -> My Money -> Update Pre-approved Payments -> Cancel

Call yesterday, and been told that I should receive it soon, will wait til the end of week before cancelling my subscription.

  • Obviously they are trying to delay sending out the gift card for as long as possible. They probably will wait until after the next payment date. People who cancelled before then probably will never get their gift card.

  • +2

Yep, funny how there's a backlog of gift cards to be sent out but not one single person has received them yet.

  • Cancelled my subscription with News today. If I don't receive my gift card, I'll be escalating the dispute on paypal.

  • If you cancel the recurring from paypal … check back your account news.com.au … it is showing "PayPal account not authorised for payments
Please set up authorisation for recurring payment purposes"

so effectively they know you have removed the recurring??

  • How late can we wait to unsubscribe? It says I started 1st of March, but I can't find any information on when exactly the next payment will be coming out.

But yeah, what a scam, they will "honor" the conditions except that they will delay it so no one will get it without paying at least one month full fee (maybe they even drag it out to two months, but that might be pushing it). I don't expect to ever get this card.

EDIT: nevermind, I found it (23rd). I switched payment to Paypal and I'll just cancel on 22nd (and remove authorization from ebay in case there is a delay).

  • Just got my partial refund (through paypal)

Signed up March 1st, cancelled Saturday 15th.

But of course no gift card, also didn't receive any newspapers.

    • why could you got refund? how much?

    • +2

They can't suddenly change the contract you had with them. They signed the contract to provide you with a gift card after you subscribed. Don't let them roll you like that.

  • meh, just cancelled mine. No gift cards received yet. Waste of time, $2 and my privacy. :(

Signed up March 1, 2014, cancelled today via paypal.

  • next payment date 23 March ! now im nervous! cancelled on paypal website and on the herald account i saw this
PayPal account not authorised for payments

    cool!
