    • Hey! Thanks for letting me know. I will definitely try it there tomorrow :)

  • Does anyone else just get the error message:
"Sorry, that code is invalid. Please check your code and try again."?
Getting same error through both the app and Web site.

    • yes I get that error too! Feels like we're the only ones haha

    • Yes when scanning QR code on iPhone

  • I tied 2 phones in Brisbane with Apple iPhone 5S - Central Station platform with scanning QR code - didnt work and in ticket area of Central Station, also didnt work.

Ill try a Samsung Galaxy S4 and see if that works (it has NFC)

Why even offer a QR or NFC option if they don't even work….. Ordered a card for my free coke

  • +2

Tried at The University of Melbourne Union House with QR code. Worked all well!

  • THANKS OP!!! excellent first post. I tried copying and pasting the code but that didn't work but once I entered it manually it did (just incase anyone else had similar problems)

I am looking forward to my free coke when my card arrives :)

    From Coke:

Thank you for your recent email to Coke Vending.

We are in the process of enabling compatibility with the QuickTap application across our machines nationwide. As you can imagine this is quite an extensive process. We are trialling payment via the application at selected Australian Universities. Pending a successful trial will be a national rollout of the new payment tags on out machines.

You will eventually see a payment tag under the glass on all of our machines which can be scanned with the app or tapped with NFC compatible phones for payment in the app. The current QR codes on the face of our machines will only direct you to the registration page. Please see the attached photo for reference as to what the new payment tags will look like.

The reasoning behind the Quick Tap system is to reduce the use of coins and notes, as the majority of problems with vending machines – for both consumers and us - are related to cash as you have experienced. We also offer various ongoing promotions through Quick Tap accounts such as discounts and top-up bonuses that will provide significant savings to regular vending machine users.

Cards can be ordered via the QuickTap website under the “My QuickTaps” tab, once on this page, click on “Order a new card” at the top of the page. Alternatively please reply with your postal address and I can send a card out.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to reply to this email or call us on 1800 025 123 Monday – Friday, 8am – 7pm AEST.

Once again thank you for taking the time to contact us.

  • Attempt 1: Equipment required error.
Attempt 2: Sorry the system is currently unavailable. Please try again later.

I would not be too pleased with their service if I put cash into my Quick Tap account.
Used an in-app barcode scanner in my Galaxy S3.

  • The app is not available on iphone.

  • Has anyone found a place that accepts the phone application in the Melbourne area?

    • Has to be at unis, i know for sure Melb Uni union house works

  • +1

Mobile app worked at the atrium in Macquarie University :) Friends and me got a few drinks thanks.

  • +1

Tried to use it at Griffith Uni but the app kept telling me that 'Equipment required' or something like that.

  • where about i can use this in sydney citi cbd area?

  • how exactly do you use this? I have a Galaxy S3 with NFC enabled. Went to two vending machines (one at a uni) and punched in the drink number, then put my phone against the card terminal but nothing happened?

    • Yeah, the machine needs to be NFC enabled still and most don't seem to be.
Use the search link the OP provided and check to see if the one you used has a little phone icon next to it, if it doesn't, it won't work.

Worked perfectly for me, UNSW + app + NFC

  • Anyone actually get the mail card yet?

    • +3

Yup, and just collected my free Coke :)

    • +1

      No

    • No

    • nope

    • +1

Nope. It said in the email sent on March 1st "Thank you for joining QuickTap, the convenient and easy way to pay at Vending machines.
If you have ordered a card, you should receive it in the next few days."

Now 16/17 days later, still no card! :(

    • Just got the card today. Will test it soon.

    • 16 days, nope.

      • Got mine today. took them long enough…

        • I'll add the usual Adelaide delay of a day, then contact them about the card

        • I ordered mine Thursday last week and received it today in Sydney, nice and quick

    • Still no card

  • doesn't even work "Equipment error"

  • Equipment is required.

  • +1

Got one with NFC at UNSW :)

  • for those who don't know you can use the card as well to claim the free drink, I got my self a vanilla coke yesterday at central station (Sydney) with no problems at all.

    • did you have to validate the card first or something? I tried today at a QuickTap vending machine and it kept saying "validation failure". - it's ok i figured it out

  • The QR scan does not work at all, comes up harwdare required. Just ordered a card.

  • Promo code works. Awesome thanks OP!

    Cheers

  • I tried my card (already activated) at five different suburbs and it worked at none of then. Somebody please tell me how to use it?

  • they need to work on this, surely it cant be that hard to get the system working and roll out the NFC compatibility on all the machines. The QR code option doesn't even work, tries to get your location and then fails and comes up hardware required. I am just going to wait for the physical card to arrive in the mail.

    • The QR code you used was one one that links to a registration page, it wasn't equipped for QR/NFC.

Good luck with the physical card … I tried at 5 different locations (multiple machines at said locations) and the card was not accepted anywhere!

  • Got the physical card and redeemed the coke so worked for me.

Ignoring the deal itself (which is good), but does anyone else think Quick Tap seems like a bad implementation of a good idea?

Why would I want the hassle of maintaining an account with a balance, just to pay for stuff from a vending machine? It's like a gift card - it reduces the utility of money.

I can see increased benefit for the vendor (they have my details, know my frequent purchases, can target offers towards me), but none for the consumer. All they had to do was add PayWave!

    • exactly. even though you can get 10% off purchases, it's a hassle having to carry yet another plastic card and watching its balance.

      • Agreed. Being able to purchase using the app is better if it a actually worked.

  • Tried the machine at St Marys station- platform 1. 'Failed to/could not validate' error. Card was activated online 2days before use.

I'm thinking some haven't been fully/correctly setup yet so will not work….

    POWEEKCOKE not working today!?!

I have just registered, ordered a card, entered the promo code to be told 'invalid code'.
I then set the card to active and tried the promo code again, same message.

    Has it expired?

    • +1

Well it has been 21days + almost 7500 clicks since the deal was posted…
Just imaging the amount of ppl brodening the hell out of this with multiple accs. & also ppl redeeming the deal outside of OzB!

I'd say it would have ended a VERY VERY long time ago.

  • got mine today with the card, you have to tap it not insert it like I tried to do XD

  • Just received my card today and the code doesn't work?

  • Pain in the butt carrying that card around (Read: Yeah.. I missed out too)

  • How do you even use the card with the machine?

    • The machines have a card reader slot (like ATMs) w/ NFC built-in.
2 ways: Insert card or place card near slot.

      • Inserting the card multiple ways came up with "Remove card" but nothing happened.

        • +1

Me too. Tried inserting that bloody card every which way. Tapping too.

  • You need to tap it, I tried to insert card but felt like it would get stuck. Tap it and it works right away.

    • Well, it is called Quick Tap after all…

      • The QuickTap cashless payment system is so much slower than regular coin payment though.

        • +1

Negged for reviewing the truth of my multiple QuickTap experiences, really?

        • ah, must be one of the many ozbargain grumpy guts ;)

if it makes you feel better, i got negged for mentioning that a maglite didn't come with batteries.

  • Thnx op, used today to cool the throat at Adelaide Oval (BTW Port over the crows by 55 ;) )

  • +2

Got my card today. If you haven't got yours and it's been ages, contact them and they'll resend it. That's what they did for me. :)

EDIT: They added 2 free drinks onto my account too. That was nice of them. ^_^

  • So used the card today that I received from Coke with the voucher added and everything but didnt receive a Coke. 4 machines I tried, 2 said cards werent accepted and one of those seemed to be empty and had no soft drinks in it anyway as empty light kept coming up and other 2 lights flashed etc but it wouldnt give me a Coke. So I dont know kind of unimpressed, went to a bit of effort in the end too just for this Coke, but in summary may have used it if it worked but definitely a no sale for me on this. Maybe instead of investing money in tech that doesnt work they should just make their product a bit cheaper, just an idea Coke

    • My card didn't work initially.
Had to go back online and log into my account and "activate" it. Card was registered to my account but not active.
      Card then worked

  • Received card yesterday. Will see if it works.
